A prolific tornado producing Supercell raged across northern St. Louis and severely damaged the area around the airport and caused havoc across the city.

My family and I were fortunate. When it reached Chambers and Green Valley Dr. it jumped over our area. It downed trees on either side of our circular drive and we couldn’t get out. About two days later a church group from Joplin came by with chainsaws and cut the tree debris up for us. We were so grateful for them. Ironically, one month later Joplin got hit an EF5. I drove a group of volunteers (Vandalia Bus Lines- St. Louis Cardinals front office volunteers) to help with the clean up, but the devastation was so great our effort seemed like a drop in the bucket.

I drove through this storm and past Lambert Airport with my mom. I remember the sirens going off as we sped home. I never saw the tornado but I just knew there was something on the ground already...

I was in St.Louis in Bridgeton when this tornado touched down.

I remember looking out my window and just seeing a black massive spinning cloud not realizing it was the tornado. I'd seen tornados before, but this was so big I honestly didn't know what I was looking at, so lucky no one got killed

I was driving up 170 near Maryland heights and got pounded!!!! Hail and violent rain. Couldn’t see anything! I had no choice but to stop the car on the side of the highway and pray. never been so scared I’m my life

Was this the EF4 tornado that was part of the terrible tornado swarm of 2011? Sorry, I might have missed it in the description. I do remember seeing news footage of devastating damage at the airport.

I was in the then St. Louis Mills mall for this. We got hit before the airport did, and I’ve never seen a green sky before then. I thought that was just a myth. And on the way home on the bus, I saw the gouging in the ground by the highway. It was wild.

I was across the street from the Mills when that tornado hit. That area did not get hit with the April 2011 tornado.

Sky went green, Hail fell, and there was scoring in the ground across Highway 70 when I was on the way home. It may not have hit directly but it was pretty damn close.
