I have a 2001 chevy silverado v6 . I purchased 2001 chevy silverado donor truck with a 5.3. If put the ecm from the 5.3 do i have to get it programed.

Yes you have to get the vats tuned for it to start but that setup will work fine

I'm looking to do the same to my silverado this summer. Where did you locate your v-8 frame mounts? I've been looking around but all I can find is the motor mount. Or are they one in the same?

The frame mounts are separate and I just got lucky and my neighbor had some off an old truck he scrapped so your best bet is to go try to pull some from a junk yard.

I know it’s a old video but were you able to put the v6 throttle body and wire on the v8? Or do you need one from a 99-02 v8

No it has to be a V8 throttle body but you can use the original V6 cable because it’s long enough.

Did the wiring harness plug in where the v6 harness unplugged? What all did you have to change?

All of it is already together with the V8 ECU you just need to replace the old v6 ecu with the v8 ecu along with the harness.

I just bought a v6 2001 chevy . Was 4.3 and 4l60e. Does driveshaft bolt right up ? Same trannys right? I'm actually only using the frame for a swap on another project to get a full frame under the car. I'm in Texas too I'd love to see your truck in person and see what I'm up against. Thx

Same trannys and yep driveshaft bolts right up. I would be careful with a stock 4l60 as this truck just has a cammed 5.3 and has been through 1 stock and 1 built one.

Definitely going to need a tuner because they need to write in that it’s a v8, what litre it is and bypass some security things for it to turn over.

I got a new 4l60 to put in it because someone told me the 4.3 and 5.3 4l60s were different. Mine was just $650 from FB marketplace and it’s still doing fine a year later. If I could go back I’d put a 4l80 in it from the get go tough bc 4L60s are junk if you’re trying to race them at all.

4.3 and 5.3 bell housings are the same, it’s the 4cyl 4l60s that won’t work with a 5.3

I did a 4.3 to a 4.8 swap. My truck being a 2003 with a 4.3 and the 4.8 being from a 2000 Chevy donor truck. The truck starts to crank in the first rotation of the key not even the actual 2nd rotation where it’s suppose to crank. What am I going wrong.

It could be a computer problem if you haven’t already had the numbers changed to match with the new v8. It’s more then likely just a security thing.

It’s because your truck is can-bus. Harness is pinned different at the fuse box . Easiest route is to get a 2003+ harness and ecm

We had to take it to our tuner for him to re-write the vin on it for the initial startup and I think he had to delete the vats.

That could be a very large variety of things so I’d you have a tuner contact him and have him check the codes it’s throwing so you guys can try to get it figured out.

You’ll need adapters and some 6an lines and cut the original lines further down to make em work, I can’t remember the sizes but there should be videos or threads on google with them since it’s common👍

We used fuel fittings from summit and braided lines in order to connect them, it’s a lot to explain and I couldn’t fit it all in this one comment but I would recommend looking up a specific video on how to do it and they’ll be able to explain it better for ya.

Yes you have to have the tune changed to match vins otherwise VATS won’t allow it to start bc of the security bypass.

Yes sir, it’s the original fuel pump but it was replaced a few years prior because the old one shit the bed.

I used stock 5.3L motor mounts off a donor truck but you need the frame mounts as well just to put the motor mounts on.
