I bought a 2001 WJ 4.7 2WD about 7 years ago with only 62000 miles on it. It's in very good condition. After I owned it for about a year the engine dropped a valve seat. I immediately shut the engine off when I heard the clattering and felt the engine miss fire. Fortunately it didn't do any damage to the engine, in fact the machine shop was able to reuse the exhaust valve to my surprise. But pulling those heads off with the engine still in the vehicle was a pain!! Still own it today and runs great! And I forgot to mention that it came with the factory tow package which comes with a limited slip differential with 3:73 gearing. So this thing pretty fast off the line.

@@brynnond.6952 From what I seen on a website that talks about WJ"s, the ones without the tow package came with a 3.55 ratio. Not sure how reliable the website was though.

@@TheHawaiiantiger my 4.7 is a 2002 model, non tow package, and has a Dana 44A with 3.73 gearing, only thing I’ve noticed between models with and without is the cooling system for the transmission is different / has a bigger transmission cooler, and that’s instead of 80w-90 conventional in the rear, manual calls for 75w-140 full synthetic, but I have only looked at a handful of 4.7 wj’s so a 3.55 could be possible since the rear diff if 100% swappable +\- some drive shaft sizing options with the u-joints.

About to put 4.0 with manual in my wj. The 4.7 seized around 330k. Hoping to use ecm and wiring from a wrangler. Have clutch parts for it. I reused a bread tie in fuel injector clips because I broke a couple lock tabs. My block seized so I tore it down to the block to autopsy it. Removed bumper too. I pulled mine with trans also.

Where did you mount the chains on to, to lift the motor? Also, there's a wiring harness that runs through the back side of the valve cover by the breather connection on the passenger side, its a thick harness, is this harness bolted onto the engine or the chassis?
@AGuyandHisProjects11 ай бұрын
There are two threaded holes where long bolts can go (might already be there) and you can hook to those. That harness is not connected to the body...I don't remember if it was bolted to engine or not, either way, not connected to body in my case

He says, "I'm not a mechanic". Then he shows us removing an engine. Seems to me he's more than a paper pusher.. My concern would be missing something when putting it back together and having to tow it to a shop to get it fixed. I test drove a 2008 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 engine, 105,000 miles. That thing was fast. I looked up the specs and learned the 2008 with 4.7 is faster than the hemi with 5.7 liters. It appears the 4.7 makes more torque below 3500 rpms. According to several car road tests, It did 0-60 in 6.6 seconds when new. I can't figure out if ALL 2008 have the HO equipment, but the HO has 30 more HP than the standard 4.7L.
