In this video, I demonstrate 4 basic judo techniques.
1. de ashi Harai (incorrect, actually Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi)
2. O Soto gari
3. O goshi

There's a lot thats good here! For example, the lower hip placement in o goshi and seoi nage. In general, the tsukuri, or "fitting in" is there. But there needs to be kuzushi first. Or else, with a resisting opponent, you'll either (1) not get the throw, or (2) get countered. Watching this video reminds me of when I was a white belt doing Judo with my buddy from Hawaii (they have really good Judo there, part of high school sports and PE). We were trouble shooting my throws. He told me I had no kuzushi. That's part of why in judo classes, you spend so much time drilling uchikomi. It helps you build an awareness of kuzushi and of movement. You can even train this skill with bands alone! Hopefully this helps someone looking to add some Judo into their grappling knowledge. We've all got deficit areas and are better when help each other learn. That's the principle of jita-yyoei in action. Oss Also, shoutout to uke. Learning to comfortably breakfall takes getting thrown thousands of times, and it's not exactly a pleasant learning curve as an adult!

You need to focus more on the disruption of balance before doing the throw. How better the balance of your opponent is disrupted, how easier and smoother your throw is going to be.

Basically judo in a nutshell is making someone fall
@ti2218
@ti2218 Жыл бұрын
That's why they're called judo throws lol, getting an enemy onto the ground is the whole point. Learning how to grapple an opponent when you're in a clinch, and then throw them into an advantageous position for you. Jiu jitsu and wrestling have some takedowns as well, and combines beautifully with Judo, because Judo is getting TO the ground while also dealing some serious damage to your opponent, while Jiu Jitsu is mostly ON the ground, learning how to get submissions and keep yourself safe from submissions at the same time. And then things like Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Taekwondo (the old fashioned way before it became a point-scoring sport), those are obviously for when you're standing and not grabbing each other. A true fighter should never be a master of only one of these arts. You need to know at least a little bit of everything, otherwise it's like fighting with a missing limb lol. A boxing champion gets into an MMA fight and has no idea what to do when somebody grabs their leg and throws them. A red belt in jiu jitsu gets into an MMA fight and probably has no idea what to do when their opponent wheel kicks their head into oblivion. You need a little bit of everything.
