Awesome video Dom!! I use a lot of the same setup. I added the Sony GP-VPT1 (Shooting grip and mini tripod) to my setup and it has made a huge improvement to workflow especially when switching between video and photos for live events all you have to do is press the shutter button to take pictures and then the record button to record video without having to switch modes with the dial. You also get Tele and Wide angle control with PowerZoom lenses like the SELP18105G 18-105mm. I also use the Recon Tripod Head for quick switch between Portrait and Landscape shots. Keep up the great work!!!!

I've done the smartphone in the past on my Canon 70D...thanks for the reminder for my next wedding shoot for my Wide Shot. I love the smallrig cage I bought a IKan 4K monitor and it's a nice complement to the rig. Well done keep it up!

Hey Dom, compact setup, I see you have mounted lots of accessories on the a6300, how did it go? A little vocal illustration will be great too just a tip

Hey Lee, I use all the accessories a lot except for the viewfinder and zoom h1, to keep my setup small. I did try a talking about the setups, but it made the video slow and a bit boring so I left it out. Thanks for the feedback anyway :)

Hey Dom, great vid, super helpful! Can you explain in details what happens at 0:12? What's the mount you put on the rig and what's that "spider" you hold the camera on...?? Really looking forward to find it! Thx!
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) At 0:12 I removed the camera from the Mefoto tripod, then using the peak design plate attached to the top of the cage, I slotted the camera into the Peak Design V2 Camera Clip. The plate that connects the camera to the tripod is from the Swivi s4 viewfinder, hope this helps.

Subbed because I've seen this video three times or so. Great rig set ups. Come up with anything new like using an external power source?
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
Awesome thanks for subscribing:) I probably won't make a video on external power sources, because I just carry spare battery's around to keep things small and light. But here are some options for external power: This one probably has the largest capacity kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmXPq4xqhdmZm5o , any 'powerbank'/portable charger, the a6300/a6000 battery grip(this will not work with the cage on camera).
@GwenchanaHabibi7 жыл бұрын
can u try to mount a portable power bank probably the 10k mah one anker have that's relatively small and would solve the overheating problem and battery life aswell
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't have one to test that out, but I'm sure it would work you just need to find something to mount it. And my a6300 has never overheated.

wow this is awesome and now Im decided to buy the sony s6300 lol! what I dont understand is why do you need to put a rode mic there. I have seen other people just using the Zoom H1. I don get it why it is for? Thanks!!
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, good choice of camera:) The zoom h1 is a an external recorder, so it can be used to record better quality audio(compared to built in mic) and you can monitor the sound with headphones.
@UXTips8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot!
@japinderz7 жыл бұрын
Dom Blond Thanks for the cool setups. I still don't get it why you need the Rode mic as an input to the Zoom H1. Why not put a windsock on the H1 & use it's XY microphones. Thanks, JP
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
Your welcome :) You can use the zoom H1 XY microphones, but when mounted on camera, all the small movements from holding the camera will be picked up by the H1. The rode video mic has a rycote shock mount which minimises this effect a lot.
@MrMilanina7 жыл бұрын
Is recording from Rode directly to camera so bad that you need to record the sound to H1?
@legendp20118 жыл бұрын
Nice, although I was expecting an external battery as well to combat the heat
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
I've never needed one, I just carry 2 spare batteries which is enough for a day. Used this camera on holiday in the Caribbean and it never overheated, and Sony have released a firmware update which fixes overheating:)

@johanness65457 жыл бұрын
haha man😂 why do you use a displayviewfinder? the a6300 has an electronic viewfinder
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
It helps stabilise the camera for handheld shots.
@johanness65457 жыл бұрын
+Dom Blond I don't think so, because the integrated viewfinder does the same
@johntakoor18147 жыл бұрын
there are two reason i can think of. 1st is the stability for using the viewfinder might be not as stable as using the displayviewfinder because i tend to use my right eye so it might offset my hand position to add support for the stabilization as well as the position of the displayviewfinder that lower than the evf so i might not have to keep my elbow in front of the chest to keep it tight. 2nd is because of the added external audio recorder and the mic on top that may interupt while using the evf
@johanness65457 жыл бұрын
John Takoor I use my right eye

Does it helps with a resolve overheating problem?
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the cage will help the camera dissipate heat. Overheating has never been a problem for me, even before I used the cage. Plus theres a firmware update than should have fixed it.
@igoRajon7 жыл бұрын
As for me its a huge problem. Overheating is coming after 16-18 minutes in 4k, or a couple 4-5 minutes of filming. After updating the firmware the problem does not resolve!(
@igoRajon7 жыл бұрын
How many minutes you can shot in 4k 60mbps?
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
I only use 4k at 100mbps, longest I've recorded continuously is around 15mins. Most of the time I don't shoot longer than 5 mins in one shot. But the times your getting seem too short, in the manual it says what times you should get, if you've getting below those maybe your camera is faulty.
@igoRajon7 жыл бұрын

Great video! For the "Vlogger" rig setup, you've added an external mic and an iPhone so I'm assuming that you'd monitor the video using the smartphone. But I haven't figured out how to start/stop videos using the Playmemories app on my iPhone. Has this been enabled recently? Any workarounds using non-official apps?
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
Thanks:) You can start/stop video using the play memories app. It's been working since June for me. Just make sure your camera mode dial is set to video mode.

Thank you sir..:)! Nways one last question Are you familiar with kamerar QV-1 LCD viewfinder?. its compatible with sony 6300?
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
That viewfinder is for cameras with a 4:3 ratio screen, the a6300 has a 16:9 ratio screen so that viewfinder will not be compatible.

Great setups! Do you recommend the Swivi S4? I have never used a LCD viewfinder before so is the magnification actually good for manual focusing? Or the built in viewfinder would be good enough?
@DomBlond7 жыл бұрын
I recommend it only if you do documentary style shooting(handheld with minimal movement in shots). Yeah it helps with manual focusing because the screen is magnified. It works slightly better than the built in viewfinder for video, and it also helps with stabilisation. For short videos (less than 3mins) built in one is good enough.

Are you happy with the Swivi S4 and a6300 combo? I'm looking for a good viewfinder
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
It's alright, works well for outdoors and handheld shooting. But it gets loose quite easily and doesn't align up perfectly. For the a6300 there is not much choice of viewfinders because of the 16:9 screen. Try using the built in viewfinder for a while, the Swivi S4 is only slightly better.
@LukaLives8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, i've been using the built in viewfinder, but my eyes hurt after squinting for a while, also looking for better handheld ease of use. But that doesn't sound too good. How can't it align perfectly if it's adjustable both horizontal and vertically?
@DomBlond8 жыл бұрын
At first it aligns up perfectly, but as it gets loose it moves slightly. It's annoying but still usable because it doesn't move enough to cut off any part of the screen.
