I use a sigma 18-35 f1.8 with an mc11 adapter on my a6500 as well as the 10-18. I then use sony's clear image zoom feature to turn my lenses into an effective 32-70mm f1.8 and 20-32mm f4. Get's all of the shots I need. however, I would love to get one of those sigma 16mm 1.4 just to get a even more dreamy look at a wider angle and I'll always be able to punch in 2x to turn that into a 32mm

Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing this with us. I use the Sony a7RII with the Metabones adapter for my Canon L series lenses. I'm not happy with this setup except for the 50 f/1.2 which makes an amazing combo ! I'm waiting for the Pilotfly H2 gimbal and would like to find a great Sony lens to shoot landscape and cityscape with continuous auto focus on face. Hi David, since I see no answer yet..I use as well on my A7SII AI, AIS and G lenses, as well as Tokina, Konica, Zeiss and even Helios, MIR and Fuji vintage lenses and I´ve tried many adaptors. From the Metabones top notch down to the cheapest ones found on Amazon. For the job you need them to do on a FF camera, Ill stick with the Commlite or Fotodiox adaptors which are half way compared to the expensive metabones and the cheapest. They are good build quality and do the job just very fine. Hope it helped.
@FollowTheSun137 жыл бұрын
Native lenses on a camera are supposed to work the best way since they are designed for it. Hence, it doesn't mean you can't adapt other party lenses on your camera and obtain results almost as good (and some even better). For much less than what Sony asks for their lenses (some times you don't even have a choice and you have to go to the Zeiss series or G master, since some focal lengths and speeds are yet not available elsewhere at a Pro-amateur price point). That being said, Nikon is one of the best lens manufacturers ever, and the range of choice you have with them is huge. They still manufacture lenses that they started to on the 80´s cause there´s simply nothing to change on them. You can get yourself a pretty good damn kit of old lenses (from the 70`s, 80´s, 90´s) which will allow you to have a professional kit for not much more than 1000 US, and we are speaking about covering from Ultrawide to Tele up to 200 (and most of them fast lenses too as the 50mm 1.4, the 20-35 2.8D, the 85mm 1.8 AI or the 80-200 2.8ED). This lenses are marvelous jewelry manufactured with excellence that nowadays has been lost almost everywhere, or pay above 1000 US for each lens to get something new equivalent. You loose autofocus, face recognition etc, but you can save lots of money, lots of space and still have a Pro Kit. Sorry for the extension
@PillowFightMania7 жыл бұрын
the reason why he doesn't mind adapting the Nikon lens is because there's no autofocus, and using an adapter without electronic connections usually doesn't pose any problems.

You're a wealth of knowledge Brandon. I greatly appreciate all your efforts to share what you can. I'm wondering what your thoughts are with the clear image zoom on the a6300...... I use the Sony 10-18 and the 35 1.8 on my a6300. With the 10-18mm at 18mm the full frame equivalent is obviously 27mm. Add 2 x times multiple for the clear image zoom and that comes to 54mm. Then zoom/crop that footage in post from 4k to HD and you get 108mm. So in essence the 10-18 becomes a 15- 108mm zoom if that makes sense.... Obviously the same applies to the 35mm. Is clear image zoom something that you also use for the a6300 for focal length versatility?

This an excellent video-tutorial for sony users (and not only). However it is very important when talking about lenses and focal length not to forget the type of camera we are using. If it is a FULL FRAME or an APS-C or even a MFT. Becouse in many videos some guys present different lenses (focal length) , lets say for example a 50mm, but they never told us that they were using a GH5 (MFT) which have a crop factor of x2. Thus, a 50mm in GH5 is like a 100mm in FF and someone has to mention this. Thank you for this video. Nice and technical correct.

Jeff Winslow 1 second ago Brandon, I just ordered the new Sony a7iii with 24 MP like the a7, a7ii, and a9. So, I wonder if the Sony crop 18-105 video lens on the new a7iii produce quality video like the a7rii evidently does. The Tony & Chelsea KZbin: "Crop lenses in full frame cameras" states the a7rII 48 MP in crop mode is actually 8 MP for Video and therefore crop lenses work better than full frame lenses. I guess that makes sense since I understand video works best at 8-12 MP. So, the question is does the Sony full frame 24 MP 7iii work equally as well with the APSC 18-105 video lens and others like the 10-18.

hi Brandon. Firstly, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have learnt a lot from watching your video! And that’s why I have decided to move a step forward and buy a Sony a7siii. However, I still can’t figure out what lenses I should buy to start with. If you could please give me some suggestions that would be great! My condition: it’s my first mirrorless full frame camera. I used to use iPhone and DJI for VLOG. I do lots of travel/cooking/life style VLOG. And Some photos when travelling. And I would like to use my camera on the DJI RSII. Thank you so much in advance!

I too just prefer using native lenses - less complicated. I have a D810 for photos and the Nikon nifty fifty is awesome, but I wondered why do you not use the Sony 50mm on your A7sII? THX

By far the best video I've seen on this subject and backed up by incredible video footage. Amazing talent.

I have the sony a7sii and the 55mm 1.8 and 16-35 f4. I want to get one more lens but don't know what I should go for.....I do business videos, interviews, wedding videos, real estate(16-35 has that covered), and lots of run and gun filming for my small videography and photography business

Brandon Li, first off, nice work. You're a great teacher and film-maker and your channel is very educational and allows for us to stretch our own creativity that much further. I have a question regarding audio. I was wondering, for instance, in your "Dock Workers in Dubai" short, how do you record the raw audio of the workers while you're shooting and then edit it into the shots in post? If you could even make a video on that or something that would be helpful, I only ask you because I find the way you explain things top notch.

Excellent! Beautiful sample videos! I love the 28 2.0 (also with fisheye adapter), 35 2.8, 55 1.8 and the 24-240. The first Sony lens I got with my A7R2 was the 24-240 and even in low light hand-held with this camera I got excellent results. I also have the G 90 macro. The only FE lens that disappointed me was the $250 50 1.8 as it's AF was hunting too much to focus and it was very loud. The 55 turned out to be the way to go.

Yes, I was tempted to get the 50mm 1.8 but it seems to be the only dud in the FE line. Would love go get the 55 but it's just too much cost and I already have a billion lenses

Thanks for the video, isnit worth it to use the 10-18 F4 with a Sony A6000? I have a 16-50 lens and the videos are awful, I'm thinking about buying another lens to solve this
@themindscapehunter41466 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir. I have been looking for these kinds of tips since I just bought A6000 yesterday ( probably close to A6300). Now I know what lens I really need to use for my video project.
