You can email me through my website (merchenaries.com) or message me on my Facebook page ( facebook.com/officialmerchenaries/ ) with some information about what you're looking for! I generally prefer using Facebook as most people check it more often than their emails.

hey what tablet are you using? wat do you recommend for beginners? btw. awesome shirt
@katiehodgson83548 жыл бұрын
+John Carlo Ramos Thank you! On this design I used my Cintiq 13HD from Wacom. It was one of the first big designs I drew with it and I love it. For a beginner I would recommend something from Wacom's Intuos series. I used an Intuos 5 and it was awesome. They're bit more than the cheaper tablets but they have better pressure sensitivity and reaction times in my experience. Worth the extra $80.

can someone explain to me with which tool she does the lines? and how does she colour the image? im pretty new to illustrator and i dont know how to colour it like she does..
@katiehodgson83549 жыл бұрын
+sascha Hi there! I used the brush tool, just the small round brush in your brush pallet. I also use a Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet, although I've used the Wacom Intuos 5 tablet in the past and it was great for a few years until the power cord stopped working. There are lots of ways to colour in a drawing (Illustrator actually has a Live Paint function but I'm not a fan of it) but in this design I just copied all my finished linework to a new layer, convert it to outlines (Object > Path > Outline Stroke) then put a large rectangle behind it and use the Pathfinder's Divide function. Divide gets rid of all the overlap. From there you can just click and delete or recolour the shapes you want to keep. Hope that helps!

Love your work Katie. Just a quick question on using the gradient front. Do you have to fade it out to become transparent and then expand it. I'm so confused on how this actually works. Jack
@Merchenaries8 жыл бұрын
Hi there Jack, Katie here - with gradients for screen printing in particular you always have to use spot colours. An easy way to do this is to just use Pantones, which you can access on the swatch panel options under Open Swatch Library > Color Books > Pantone Solid Coated Most shops will use that Pantone color book. You don't have to do this for blacks, though, just use 100% K and make sure your document is in CMYK mode instead of RGB. If you're using white, make a new swatch and change the swatch type from Process to Spot in the dialog box that pops up. To fade a spot colour gradient, set both sides of the gradient to the colour you want, then change the opacity on one side to 0%. You can drag the markers to make the fade more gradual or abrupt, and if you want to change the angle of the gradient, use G to bring up your gradient tool and drag in the direction you want your fade to go. You can also reverse your gradient with the reverse button in the gradient panel. Hope this helped! If you have any other questions, let me know! And if you'd like to see what I'm doing lately, check out my new tutorial channel, Merchenaries (commenting here!). I have a few new time lapses out and some basic tutorials, but I may just add a gradient tut to the list now!
