”There’s Always a Place for You at Our Table” - Uzbek cuisine.
The workshops and an open meeting took place on the 31st of July 2022 in the gardens of the Ethnography Department of the Gdańsk National Museum.
Oksana Shatogo was born and raised in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Oksana’s family came to Poland in 2009 as a family of repatriates. She was a member of the Council of Immigrants at the Mayor of Gdańsk during 2016-2020. Her interests include the integration of immigrants in Gdańsk, development of intercultural dialog, and promotion of knowledge about her country. She took part in Multicultural Cuisine projects (Uzbek, Armenian cuisines), kim-chi workshops, culture and travel meetings entitled “Undiscovered Uzbekistan” and “A School of Diversity”. A power engineer by education, she works as an accountant. Together with her husband Władysław, Oksana was cooking the most popular Uzbek dishes: the manti and pilaf.

The programme carried out in 2022 entitled “There’s Always a Place for You at Our Table” presented the cooking culture of contemporary settlers, immigrants who have come to Poland in the 21st century. The presentation was done through workshops, dialogue, narrative. The workshops were attended both by the people from Tri-City and by tourists.
We invited everyone who wanted to learn how to cook originally foreign, sometimes exotic dishes, but also, or perhaps mostly, those interested in the newcomers, who found it interesting to discuss cuisines, home, longing, the way they absorb Poland into their lives and their food.
Professional and curator supervision: Monika Kucia.
Event partner: KUKBUK.PL.
The programme entitled “There’s always a place for you at our table” took place within the project “The Shelter. Climate, Migrations, Heritage”, co-funded with the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the “Culture” Programme, Measure 2 “Improvement of art and culture accessibility”.
We promote the zero waste concept and pro-environmental attitudes. We appreciate traditions. We learn about the culture of the region and folk cultures of other countries. We want to educate through arts and crafts. We connect children, youth and adults with male and female artists, folk creators and museum people.
We work together for a green, competitive Europe, supporting social inclusion.
