Very true. My dad was an EMS, many, many years ago. (He's retired now and in his 70's) He told me a few stories about him as an EMS trying to get to someone who needed help, but there was a crazy person inside the house making it almost impossible for them to get to the person needing help. People just driving by the house would only see the Ambulance, not some crazy person inside trying to attack them. They are on their own and need to know how to defend themselves.
@Jennifer-dk1ni4 ай бұрын
Yep, my dad threw his back out trying to wrestle a drugged up patient back into the ambulance who kept trying to run out into oncoming traffic. A less experienced person could have ended up hurt worse and possibly with a traffic collision to boot! EMT’s should all be given basic levels of training for their own safety if nothing else.
@JTJ19914 ай бұрын
I’ve had to wrestle many patients as a paramedic. It makes it hard to not do harm when others are actively trying to harm you. I wish they had this system and was taught to us. EMS was never included in any type of training for self defense. I even brought it up about the Gracie’s academy and the police system they started in the 2010’s. Our service wouldn’t even try to get with the county sheriff or fire chiefs to make it happen.

So do you want the likely physically strongest or weakest person to be the safety person?? And yes I have done lots of restraints of people who have had psychological breakdowns or criminal behavior. No guns needed; no baton needed; no broken bones; no hospitalizations except for drug overdose; and yes sometimes you need a lot of people to restrain someone; especially for by the book restraints; and sometimes you have to choke someone when they are trying to murder/ rape someone and it is just you. And some idealists tell you you should never do a solo restraint; or use a choke hold; or hit someone ;and for them; when they are being killed/ raped; they should remind any good Samaritan to not do any of those things.

These types of hands on training styles are great until the suspect decides to stop playing patty cake and starts grabbing at a service weapon, taser, OC spray, Asp/Baton, Handcuffs, Keys, Flashlight, etc., and everything else that may be on an officers duty belt or vest while the officer is trying to focus on just wrapping up the suspect. Notice how none of these training videos shows anyone actually trying to resist. Nobody is flailing about, no one is actually punching, kicking, scratching, biting, twisting their body, nor screaming obscenities, spitting, and/or under the influence of anything. AKA HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING. When cops that are loaded up with gear, get into a wrestling match with a suspect that does not want to be apprehended shit can go sideways very fast, no one ever just calmly, and slowly wrestles on the floor.
@huwhitecavebeast19724 ай бұрын
They gotta go slower to avoid injury and to isolate the principles. To learn correctly you must go slower. If you had 2 high level BJJ guys on you like that, I doubt you would be able to do much unless you have similar skill. One thing not recognized is if the person with the knife does FMA, those officers are getting cut and stabbed as long as they remain in contact with the detainee. They will not get the knife from him and stand a high probability of getting killed. Officers, special operations guys, prison guards, that attended the FMA classes I went to for years were always surprised how fast and how easily they could be killed by someone who knew what they were doing. On the ground or stand up. People who haven't trained in FMA or similar arts have virtually no chance of defending themselves once they are in arms reach. On my first day in class the instructor came up to me and said "So, _______ tells me you wrestled in school and have trained some Muay Thai. Try to stop me from killing you." He then proceeded to cut me with a training blade constantly for 30 seconds straight and I didn't stop even one single attack. I felt like an infant being slaughtered.

It reminds me of the Karate Master video's where the guy is just waiving his hands and all of the guys around him just throw themselves to the ground by unseen forces LOL Please have 4 cops go full ham on Rener, maybe with MMA gloves, and then see how he fares. I guarantee you that it won't look like this half-hearted attempt shown here. Rener may last a while, but he won't win. Otherwise, congratulations on developing the SafeWrap System, it will certainly be a gamechanger in law enforcement!
@jamessurprisal22863 ай бұрын
I get what you are saying that the intensity of the officer’s were very low. The intensity is usually higher in real life. But MMA gloves would be meaningless and irrelevant. Police have policies to abide by, they aren’t supposed to be punching with reckless abandon, and MMA gloves would hamper their ability to grip and get into the little pockets as they try to restrain him. This isn’t a martial arts fight - which I am a big fan of - this is trying to get someone cuffed. As a side note, if you watch a lot of police body cam footage, you will be surprised to see how poorly police officers are at getting someone cuffed. It’s almost laughable sadly. IF this actually is an improvement, the Gracie’s have successfully identified a need in the market. Many times, you will notice the cop relies heavily on the weight of their authority in issuing commands until the person finally obeys. It is surprisingly very difficult for them to get their hands behind their back - I think they are poorly trained in this area. But that’s a comment for another time on my recommendations in how they can improve it.
@kitanul7883 ай бұрын
@@jamessurprisal2286 My thought was having the gloves on, due to the fact that he was always pulling a knife out at some point. Then the officers could strike him while escaping the knife attack ASAP while another officer pulls his duty weapon, ending the confrontation (all pretend of course lol) But yes, they were just half-heartedly going through the motions as they probably didn't want to potentially embarrass the instructors, I get it. But Rener wouldn't have been embarrassed, he would have commended the officers for making it as realistic as possible, all the while providing areas of improvement, aka, the SafeWrap System. I agree that the police rely heavily on the weight of their authority in issuing commands, which is great as it can greatly reduce a physical altercation. But as for when it goes south, so many cops are not adept in quickly and safely (for the officer and suspect) restraining/detaining them. More training is needed across probably 99% of all departments. Our local PD is currently entertaining the idea of having its officers trained in Jiu Jitsu, I do hope they decide to do so and hopefully integrate the SafeWrap System as well. Thanks for your reply, It was a great read and I'd like to hear more of your thoughts on how else they could improve it :)

If someone from some transition of care step is twice the size of the other care givers and the patient is big, the level of comfort might not be there. So that heightened level of decretion. Makes me feel this system is building wide as well as tall. Like how the old system let patients build wide and tall until they were up and running away..... ❤

When my dad followed his police training in the '50s, they had jut jitsu classes among others - that was in Mtl back then. I still have one of this evaluation card when he was a novice. He said to me when I was young that this training was the key for everything else and to control any kind of person or persons. Miss you dad.

I dare you to try that on the streets in a non-staged setting.

works exactly the same except the ground is concrete. Whats your point?🤦
@beenschmokin4 ай бұрын
@@templarexemplar35his point is that being gentle will get you "stabbing stabbing" It's not that the hold won't work. It's that getting it on is going to require pain compliance. The floor protects both ways. Who's the concrete really hurting - the copper or the Meth head? Concrete cuts both ways.

It’s a demo! Of course in a real situation the police are going to be a little more aggressive! This is a training demo, and as every Martial arts school knows, if you want the students to return, it’s best not to injure them!

@@jeffherdz yeah because if you know how to use these techniques, it will be the person you’re against slamming into the concrete and not the trained grappler. My, and a lot of others’, feedback on the last video was that’s great that two black belts can hold someone in this position but why not show someone who has just learned the system using it. This was just that, and I’m glad you guys are already hitting the road and teaching this!
@marcd19814 ай бұрын
A couple of things that make this unrealistic, even though it is trying to be shown that way. How many times did you hear the female officer say "Watch his back!"? Not long after that, when Rener pulled the knife, you heard him say he couldn't breathe, and they released pressure. Then Rener also said "my arm", and of course they released pressure again. None of this would happen in a real-world situation, as we have all unfortunately seen on video and in police reports.

Exactly. They should hold tournaments for all cops and have them compete for the best restraint performance against live standing opponents. Then they would grow the culture of "cracking heads" into a culture of talent and finesse like in ANY OTHER JOB! You think dudes on an oil rig can just wing it? Many dangerous jobs require serious safety training and people who can handle the pressure and risk. Cops just have had it way do easy for way too long. They all coddle each other at training seminars because if the expectations were higher they would have to earn the pay the get/want. It's the same as how McDojos (and cults)function.

Leo's aren't supposed to fight criminals, you use tools to disable suspects and then arrest them. Ground fighting/grappling is pretty hard for Leo's because their belts and vest impede them, plus you give the criminal easier access to your gun or other items like a taser. Not saying hand to hand combat training isn't important in some situations, but overall officers will be better off using something like pepper spray instead of grappling.
@VMR86484 ай бұрын
They should have demonstrated with full LEO attire, the vest and maybe fake guns and tasers, just to get that experience and see how hard it would be.
