My uncle was convicted in 1985 for 1st degree premeditated murder at the ripe old age of 22. He was passed out asleep drunk in his truck at a bar. His friend who was with him that night shot and killed a man in the bar. My uncle received the same sentence as his friend (life with possibility of parole). You are the company you keep was enforced upon me my entire childhood. He spent several years at the Tennessee State Prison (the famous Green Mile prison). Family weekend visitation was spent out on the picnic grounds (weather permitting). There were grills, playground equipment, etc. Its was like a neighborhood cookout every weekend. Several of my childhood years was spent on those grounds for visitation until the prison closed. Always looked forward to those visits. Lots of fond memories. My uncle was in prison another 15 years before being paroled. Visited all the other prisons but none were ever as fun as The Walls. I actually nearly choked to death on candy at the next prison my uncle was sent to. I dont remember the name. He was at Brushy Mountain too (another famous prison) but I dont think it was there. Anyway, my uncle and another couple inmate saved my life while the guards watched. Never understood why they just stood there while everyone else was in a panic.

How many times did your uncle get locked up ??
@josiegipson90
@josiegipson90 3 ай бұрын
@@for-real-countrygirl4192 just the one time. Was never in trouble before or after he was paroled. He was locked up for over 20 yrs. When the Walls closed, he was shuffled around to several different prisons until the new prison opened. Prosecutors originally tried to give him the death penalty but my granny mortgaged her farm to pay for the best criminal defense attorney in our city at the time. They were able to settle for life with the possibility of parole after so many years. My uncle was only a free man for a little over 10 yrs before he died from adrenal cancer in his early 50s..

My mom works in a min-medium security prison in southwest Wisconsin. Thankfully, she's not an officer but she does have frequent interactions with inmates as her job is to basically look at their crime, time, conduct, and terms of incarceration to determine what programs they'd be available to take that are supposed to help reform them. She's great at what she does and she genuinely loves her job and cares about the inmates and I so wish more people in that line of work were like my mom.

@@gusvalour China's treatment of the Uyghur people: Government policies have included the arbitrary detention of Uyghurs in state-sponsored internment camps, forced labor, suppression of Uyghur religious practices, political indoctrination, severe ill-treatment, forced sterilization, forced contraception, and forced abortion. Guantanamo prison nor is the U.S. involved in genocide, imprisoning people due to religion, there have been no (at least that have been made public) any forced sterilization or pregnancy terminations. It's laughable that you even attempt at comparing the two. What has happened at GITMO is abhorrent and those involved from the bottom all the way up, should have to face trial for what has happened to the prisoners. But to try to equate a select few individuals being held and treated very unfairly to fucking GENOCIDE just for being born, is hardly genuine.

I really wish you would have spoken about parchment prison in Mississippi here. I watched a documentary on it the other day called exposing parchment and there was this one guy on there that goes to prisons all around the world to tell them what they need to work on and he said unit 29 at parchment is the worst prison he has ever seen in his life and the only thing that comes close is a prison in the Congo. It's absolutely horrible the way they're treated there. One guy went into a diabetic coma because they stopped bringing him his insulin and other medications and the other guys on the block were yelling for the guards that never came so one of them sacrificed their mattresses and set it on fire just to get the guards down there.

I preface this with my dad was in and out of prison. Prisoners get the right to eat, sleep, and wake up. You dont have any other rights. Stay outta prison if you dont like it.

As to the Brazilian prison massacre. I'm on the side of the guards. If you're coming at someone with an hiv infected syringe, you're certainly not "unarmed."

I worked as a correctional officer, it's a unique job for sure. Takes a lot of mental strength. Some people stay in the job way to long, it's not a career job at all. Do it if you need too, don't stay in it.

I'm pretty upset by this one. Especially the last one.. but I'm torn because I understand that genocide and concentration camps are abominable but it does bother me that there's an undercurrent of shame that Big Daddy America doesnt step in and do something about it.. if 1 billion+ people can't rally in defense of their own people, what are we expected to do for them? Don't we literally have children in concentration camps at our own borders right now? We're not any better at all..

I wonder if Joel ever gets offended because everyone wants to listen to him so they can fall asleep when he works so hard to narrate these. I wonder if he thinks does anyone actually listen to the stories or just use me to sleep. Well for me it’s both I fall asleep everyday but I also go back and listen over and over, sometimes 10-20 times so eventually I’ve heard every story more than once. Every story in the playlist “Paranormal” I’ve heard all of the several times they are my favorite.

Some of them were shot 50 times? Either multiple officers were shooting at one prisoner at a time or one officer mag dumped a prisoner and reloaded. Remember folks, 30 rounds are pretty much standard! (Unless these guys had the budget for P90's 👀)
