@gorak90002 жыл бұрын
the real question is why do they have such crappy grates on the drains that a few leaves plug them up. Surely leaves are to be expected on street drains.
@1toshi322 жыл бұрын
@@gorak9000 You are certainly right about that but if that's the only drain you have, stands to reason to keep them clear. A better alternative is definitely the answer but can you imagine the council of the area using money to change the system?
@gorak90002 жыл бұрын
@@1toshi32 Oh yeah, the city will never spend money to change it unless people were phoning up the council people continually all day every day. And I agree, the people that live there could spend 30 seconds every week or every other week to rake the leaves off the drains. As a kid, I really used to enjoy cutting a channel in the ice for the water to flow in the spring and opening up the drain so it had somewhere to go, but oddly enough we never had a problem with leaves plugging the drain. Our drains went all the way up the roll curb, so even if the bottom of the drain was covered with leaves, it would flow over them into the more vertical part of the opening and still drain. And the city did sweep the street once a year in the spring. The way these drains are designed in that little bump out, the street sweeper wouldn't even get in there! Real brilliant design that one!
@1toshi322 жыл бұрын
@@gorak9000 Where we live, we have long drains covered in grates and where the curb and gutters are, there is a long open area where the leaves and other garbage can go into. We never have the problems of leaves either. A much better system than what's shown here. I just keep our area clean by sweeping the gutters every now and again when I see that it needs it. Not because it needs to be cleared. Just because it looks really dirty. All our neighbour's water goes in there as well so I try to clean a bit further than just our area. Makes sense in the long run. Have a good one (Aussie for have a good day).
