Thank you so much for providing "coaching" that inspires and provides a well planned track. At age 79 I have moved from conventional gardening on our small "farm" to a a more compact garden. It's a great new adventure. After watching so many approaches, it's fantastic to let go of sorting out all the "ideas" and following a proven and imaginative plan. Lighting has been a major challenge but your explanation has cleared the fog. As a retired educator, I appreciate your teaching gift.

We don't have a good place in the house, unfortunately. I'll let him know about this "recipe" for the seed starting mix. He has all the components you use so it should be easy. We're hoping to start plants in the Community Garden soon.

I enjoyed this! I have blocks of wood supporting 2 led shop lights on a timer running 13 hours a day. Im growing all our lettuce in solo cups, 60 cups. 15cups fit in each 10x20 Grow tray( the sturdy microgreen ones) and I can fit 4 under the lights so 60 lettuce plants and they don't have to be so close to the light, mine are about 15 in from the light to the bottom of the cups this has been working so well that I'm doing it year round. Along with a half gallon of sprouts each week I never have to buy lettuce.😄

Hey CaliKim, I do have a question. The wife and I are going to be starting a garden indoors. I got the old T12 shop light setup, from your link on older video's. My question is, "Is this setup still effective for growing indoors?" I've read a lot into it. I've heard mixed reviews because there's no heat emitted from the bulbs. I guess I just need to hear it from you that the money invested so far is going to help us see a good harvest. Thank you Kim, We love your channel!

She, as so many of these channels seem to be doing, is leaving out the VERY most important number for LED bulbs at least. What is that? CRI (Colour Rendering Index). The bulb she shows has an 80 CRI which is utter shite. Probably works, but in all honesty a 90-97cri is what you need (the higher the number the more colours there are in the spectrum (even ones we can't see) so the truer the colour is). Might have a 6000K, but if half the colours are missing it works for our eyes, but for a plant it matters.

Hey there Cliff, glad you liked the video, appreciate the feedback! You'll love starting from seed, it's fun to have the variety that starting from seed offers, and allows you to get a jump on your garden by growing your own transplants. I'd love for you to grow with my seed collections (calikimgardenandhome.com/seeds/). They are handy seed kits grouped by type of vegetable, or growing season. They make it easy for busy people to get a garden started, take the guesswork out of what seeds to buy. Since I grow many of these seeds in my own garden, when you grow with my seed collections, you can grow along with me. Thanks for watching and keep me posted on your garden!
