Wow, that's a nice clean cut with those tools. I've been using a square shovel and I couldn't get a true 0 degree edge. I'll have to pick up both of those tools.

Great job....I like your process. I am currently using plastic edgers on my landscaping but i like the live edges better. I always felt it was easier to keep the edges clean with the plastic but I think as long as I maintain it the way you showed it then it will get easier as I get better with the string trimmer. Great video Cam, I used to edge the same way but then I saw someone using the half-moon with the step facing towards the person (so 180 degrees from what you show). Doing it this way gives a consistent depth since the step rides on the lawn. Game changer for me, my new edging looks better than when I used to free-hand it.

Good point and I am aware of the step. I typically free hand/grab and go bc if I press the half moon edger down til my foot is flat on the ground that the same hight as the step. A lot of times I hit something before I can go that deep anyway. Using the step does make sense though.

Can you make a video on trimming your edges and how to keep the grass from getting into the mulch? When I trim my edges it gets into the mulch and I try to use the blower to get the grass clippings out it just makes a mess.

It definitely makes it more efficient in my opinion and gives a really defined edge.

How can you kill grass around a tree in order to put in mulch without affecting he life of the tree?

Use herbicide that is foliar absorbed, meaning that it is absorbed through the leaf blade to kill the plant. Also make sure that you are making a proper application. I use glyphosate and I do not recommend spraying it directly on the the tree bark, on any of the suckers of the tree if it has any, or any of the leaves of the tree. Many people will disagree with this product but it is safe.

Honestly, I do a terrible job with that because I need to stain it for protection. The fence is only about 2 years old which is why it still looks really good.

When I run across a tree root, I get my Sawsall out and cut through it.

Sure you can make it work. It may be a little more difficult due to not having a good cutting edge like on the half moon edger.
