Man, it is not easy work but I agree it is 100% worth it in the end. I think these are a few things that people may want to consider before they tackle a full reno. I have done a number of renos. There is always a point in every reno when you say "why the heck am I doing all this for some grass". Then it grows in and you sit back and look at it and say "this is why i did it".

I have heard of that but I have not looked into it. It's hard to beat the ease of growing and maintaining Bermuda on a larger lot.

I'm in Texas and I grow it with Oasis Bermuda from outside pride, who in my opinion have some of the best cultivars of grass seed. Bermuda and SPF-30 blends perfect for year around green. Only thing that will stop the green is snow. It's a serious (ELITE COMBINATION) BLEND OF GRASS!

Sounds good. So you are growing Bluemuda the combination of KBG and Bermuda. I have heard of that and I agree that is a heck of a combination.

Hi my mentor. lol. I have 2 questions. Respectfully your quick response will be highly appreciated. 1. When can I start using a striping kit on my newly overseeded lawn (35days old)? I have already put in 2 mows without the striping kit. 2. When can I start using the regular granular fertilizer? I have put down 2 applications of granular starter fertilizer. I’m trying to put more granular down before our first frost in Maryland.

Personally would wait 2 more mows the or another week or 2. Your fertilizer choice should always be applied based on your soil nutrient levels from a soil test. So, I'm not sure what you mean by normal fertilizer. If you have sufficient phosphorous then you can use the same fertilizer all season, not applying "starter fertilizer" just because you are seeding. Hope this helps.

Is there a calculation for how much granulated lime you need to how much it will raise your pH level .

Yes there are some calculators out there. Your soil test will give you the recommended amount needed as I highlighted in the one clip of the video. Thats the easy button. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!

Hey Cam! Newby here, and boy do I mean NEWBY! I’m new to my house (purchased in April, nothing but mowing done as of now), I’m new to the environmental conditions (went from West Coast to middle Tn), and new to lawn care. I’ve overwhelmed myself in researching overseeding. 😅 I’m going for some basic steps this time around, working with the existing lawn. Do you recommend weed treatment before overseeding? If so, what product? I sincerely appreciate your input!

If you are new to the area and your property in TN, you need to decide if you want cool season or warm season grass. If you are going to go with cool season overseed, yes I would treat the weeds before overseeding. The product I would use would be dependent on the weeds that are present.

Best time to overseed cool season lawns?

@upper510 Its not a hard date it's all weather dependent and we all know that changes with the wind. A rule of thumb is you need 30-45 days for seed to germinate and mature before it gets its first freeze. That is the latest limit. I would recommend 30-45 days before your first frost to be safe. Cool Season grass will be ok with a couple lite frost and keep growing.

Great video! Lots of good advice. I’m looking to overseed an existing lawn this fall. The lawn used to be covered by shade but trees were removed and the grass that was there was made for shade, and now being full sun it’s all dying off. I’m thinking about overseeding with KBG this fall since I’m in the north east, but I’m not sure if you should overseed with KBG or not.

Nothing wrong with overseeding with KBG, I prefer using a mixture or Fescue and KBG. Being that you are north you could get away with using Ryegrass also, which seems to tolerate the colder temps better. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!

You can get it from Newsom Seed. I buy from there every year. I mix in about 15% KBG by weight, everytime I seed! You will not be able to tell the difference in germination between the new cultivars of fescue and the KBG. You will tell about 4 weeks later and the following spring when your lawn really starts to thicken up quickly. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!

@@wesrobinson7506 You are asking for A LOT 🤣🤣🤣...accessible, budget friendly, high quality seed, AND KBG 🤣🤣🤣. Those things do not go together you are going to have to give somewhere. You can get it shipped to your door with Heritage PPG but it ain't gonna be budget friendly. Or you can go to Newsom and pick it up. The Amazon seed is the same but its not the same. It has a percentage of weed seed where the other options are 0% weed seed and other crop.

When do you overseed fescue in MD? Do you dethatch before? Scared to dethatch too early and stress grass but also don’t want to wait until it’s loo late.

It depends on how the weather pattern is going. I typically overseed in September but September is historically one of the driest months of the year.
