4 Endangered Vancouver Island Marmots explore the wild for the first time

From the moment the trap cover is removed, to when the marmots knock over the camera an hour and forty minutes later, these are the first moments these endangered Vancouver Island marmots experience of the wild.
Highlight moments:
2:00 - the first marmot emerges from the burrow!
8:30 - a second marmot pokes its nose out
32:00 - three marmots!
34:00 - one of the marmots is ready for a close-up
1:20 - some marmots are more adventurous than others
1:25 - a helicopter passes overhead, and the marmots are alarmed
1:39 - one of the marmots has had enough of this camera!
Chloro, Gregson, Gracelyn, and Tolmie were released on July 14th to a mountain in the Nanaimo Lakes region of Vancouver Island. Together, they help rebuild this colony where only single breeding pair of this critically endangered species remain.
All four of these marmots were born at the Tony Barrett Mount Washington Marmot Recovery Centre in 2022. Gracelyn and Tolmie are sisters, while males Gregson and Chloro are from other litters. Toronto Zoo and Calgary Zoo Wilder Institute are bred marmots for release to the wild.
To add to the day's excitement, we saw that the existing pair have at least 2 pups!
