Release Day for 4 endangered marmots

The Vancouver Island marmot is one of the most endangered mammals on the planet. At the end of 2022, only about 200 lived in the wild. Captive breeding and reintroduction is helping the wild population recover.
In 2023, four marmots born at the Tony Barrett Mount Washington Marmot Recovery Centre were released to a colony that had only a single breeding pair of adults left. Over the course of 2 hours, the marmots go from living in a facility to life on a remote mountain meadow.
This video follows the ground crew that meet the helicopter and then move the marmots into their new burrow.
