Hey John!! I usually start my pull day with a wide grip pull up (without the band). I can only do 6-7 reps. Does this mean it would be better to use assistance or is 6 reps still good for hypertrophy?

Been binge watching your content for the last few weeks, got to say the info you put out on nutrition and training and more so training has been incredibly helpful. You saved probably years of what would have been sub par results and once I got the new form down your exercises aren't any more difficult whilst being more effective for getting pumps in the target muscles than the ones I was doing before. Furthermore no shoulder plain, no knee cap pain, which I had for my first 5 months of training due to using incorrect and harmful ranges of motion. And I tried out your advice from the video "Pre, intra, and post workout nutrition." and was able to add 3 extra sets to my back, chest, and 6 to legs every workout due to the increased in recovery. And I'm not even pushing the envelope on recovery yet like I was before! Sorry for the long winded comment, I'm just incredibly grateful and though it'd be a shame not to share that.

The last exercise worked best for me personally. I gotta remember to keep tension on the lats as I’m on the stretch portion of the rep as opposed to just letting the weight pull my arms and collapse my shoulders, makes a night a day difference for me. After the set it felt like my shoulders were sitting on stilts haha, I’ve never felt that kinda pump before. Also, on a side note, you can tell you’re a good husband, encouraging the Mrs constantly and giving commendation, and you’re very patient, very solid of you. Love it. Awesome video of many, keep up the good work 👌🏻

I really enjoy the way you teach. One it's from experience, and two you just have a calm professional quality. You can tell that you are excited about sharing your knowledge. Yet you don't come across with this aggressive attitude keep up or else behavior and if you're not as big as I am, and the whole slam and bang show everyone in the gym...look at me. You just explain what, how, and why you are doing each particular movement.

Anyone else imagine the rubber band slinging him up to the ceiling like a cartoon or is it just me? Lol. The strongest rubber band in the world. Seriously these are great exercises to build upper lats. Pull ups are the best even if you need an assist i feel like they are a more natural motion than any pull down.

Pretty much the same movements I've been doing for the last month or so, except I use bands for the whole thing. I prefer the extra tension at the bottom of the squeeze on back exercises which just feels right when you hold at the end for a second for mini iso's. I was always a bit sceptical of bands until recently, I just didn't view them as "manly" pieces of exercise equipment, but since I lost that view and started using them on a good bit of my exercises that require the most work at the end of the lift, my strength has just exploded. About the only thing I don't incorporate them into is presses as I would want the highest point of muscle tension on those at the midway point. I still haven't met a machine yet that would simulate extra weight at that point, but I'm sure one exists somewhere, just most the machines I've used either keep the tension the same throughout or add tension at the very beginning.

I haven't been able to do unassisted pull ups in years lol. Back in my teens I used to do alot of bodyweight excercises within my workouts and had no problem doing sets of 50 unweighted at that time. Then once i got more into lifting properly I just kinda stupidly substituted them for other excercises. Of course I put on alot of weight over those years in muscle and then suddenly found i felt 'too heavy' to do them when i tried to do some pull ups lol. I use the assisted machine but still now its been years since I have done unassisted pull ups

I'm glad someone said it b/c I was definitely thinking it... On a more professional note I like the video and the breakdown. That stretch on the single lat pull down (or pull back depending on where you are from and terminology) was impressive. I let mine stretch on its own but have not tried my colleague pushing up on the bar to force the stretch. I am now curious. Thank you for the video.
