TheOnly 0506 well farm land is decreasing rapidly and greenhouse emissions have already started to f*ck over most of the planet, so the algae and lab grown food will likely happen, at least in some countries, I doubt insect consumption will become normal. 3D printed food makes no sense though, it’s just overcomplicating lab grown food, so most seems accurate.

You realize of course that Arsenic (a well known poison) occurs naturally in relatively large quantities in the human body.. don't you? Hell Phosphorus (also extremely poisonous) is part of our DNA. Oh and you know.. Fluorine, the gas that will burn literally anything it touches on contact.. you'll die if you have no Fluorine in your body.. While not essential to survival, even Uranium and Plutonium occur naturally in humans. These are all very harmful chemicals.. also present in almost all our food. All the chemical components of bleach are vital to human survival.. people need to get rid of this stupid idea that naturally grown food doesn't contain dangerous chemicals. 100g of soy-beans contains 194mg of white phosphorus, used in US incendiary chemical weapons. The lethal dose of white phosphorus when ingested orally is 0.1mg of phosphorus per 100g of body mass.

This video is too biased towards advancement. Be honest with yourself, people aren't going to start eating that stuff. It's like a one time thing accomplishment. The first lab grown steak, the first 3D printed meal, the first whatever. But practically, no one will eat this stuff. Especially bugs. What the heck were you thinking putting that on the list? If you saw a guy grilling cockroaches and grasshoppers next to your food, would you still eat it? Heck, I'd be trying to not throw up.

I've eaten insects before, scorpions too. When it's prepared well, it tastes great. Better than peanuts. With lab grown meat, I see that being a viable source of food. There are already GMO crops sold everywhere. There are still kinks to work out, like overall energy use, but it's a good idea. And there would still be a dairy industry, so farming wouldn't be impacted too badly, and it's not like this is going to completely remove non-grown meat from the market. In fact, some of these can be combined. Grasshopper nuggets made with the printing? Shape them into kangaroos and sell them as Hoppers. Kids would love it. Algae meal would almost certainly be a kind of filler at first. Let's be honest, people wouldn't stop going to McDonald's if it came out that they used farmed algae or crickets as a filler in their food. Their sales didn't go down when the pink slime thing came out.

I can give people a pass on most of this stuff but declining lab grown meats in favor of "natural" stuff is simply illogical. They taste the same, have the same texture, except one uses more resources to make. Tbh lab grown foods can even be genetically modified to be more nutritious and do less damage to us in terms of carcinogenic red meats. Im just saying, dont knock it off because your too set in your ways of being against anything done in a lab.

Algae's main breakthrough will probably be as animal feed-it can counteract the methane produced by cows and is a shitload cheaper and easier to produce. It also could provide more nutrients without having to be added manually to the feed so the meat could wind up tasting better too.

The thing with 3D printing the food is that you have to already have the food, and it is less appealing and not as tasty.

One problem with bugs. You can't let them dry out because then it would just be exoskeleton. That's why it's not good for reptiles
