I’m betting the frog’s AI gets way less laggy when you put blocks over their heads because of the change they made in a snapshot a while back. If I remember correctly, the frogs were initially killing themselves occasionally by jumping down a few blocks at once, damaging them. Then I think Mojang changed it so they wouldn’t do that anymore. So maybe the frog constantly has to calculate where it would land if it jumps right now, causing a ton of lag

@@YounesLayachi true. Either TNT duping or restocking it every so often, which would require sand mining and a gunpowder farm. The farm itself produces logs, shroomlight and everything else can be turned back into bonemeal. Moss farms are great at providing the bone meal and some useful blocks along the way. But then this really turns into a very big project. ...just like a monument farm. I definitely recommend building a design that doesn't require draining the ocean as that takes ages and a lot of sand (or anvils 😅). Goats and frogs simulate their jumps before deciding to actually take them (random target position, lots of collision calculations). The blocks help because one of the first collision checks fails, so the others are skipped. The honey is a special case, because they do not try to jump at all when they are on honey.

I just realized something the other day: Since slimes are now farmable via swamps, there is actually no need for overworld perimeters anymore. Only if you want very fast farms or want to optimize performance. And considering the increased effort with the increased world height, that's actually quite convenient. I have done two perimeters in my singleplayer world (One for the spawn chunks) and even with trench makers and world eaters, the effort/reward ratio is now passed the point where I consider it worth my time
@JakeWolven2 жыл бұрын

@@flo0778 Sure, you could get started with it, but I suppose the rates of such "farm" was/is only a fraction of what a modern swamp farm produces. So previously you where kind bound to make some sort of perimeter for slimes

I suspect that the reason the frogs are less laggy on honey is because the code that checks if a frog can jump first looks to if it's Y level is an even amount corresponding with a blocks top (ie the frog isn't currently airborne), and the second is if there is room above for a jump. Is there any way to build the portal based versions without them spawning in the portals? I was thinking using a golem and putting portals around it, and maybe adding a ring of portals every 3-4 blocks
@hsyndicate75852 жыл бұрын
I tried out a design based on that but did not scale up well, although it can make a simple to build farm that produces about 5000 frog lights and 500 magma creams with only 320 spawning spaces. So way simpler and a little faster then using a magma spawner. I then have a a larger one which I am still fine tuning that uses strips of portals with spawning platforms in between which is producing 80k and 8k. Neither one uses spawning inside portals and manages to almost keep the nether clear of mobs. What I have found to be the real limiting factor is how fast you can break down the large and medium cubes and get them to the frogs. I am my forth revision of the killing chamber which is near lossless on the magma creams using the and same large spawning setup as above initially was giving me 50k / 4.5k initially. So the biggest improvements in rates comes down to efficiency on the overworld side of things. I have a couple more long run tests to do to make sure it does not break, which can happen due to a uneven distribution of small magma cubes eventually killing frogs from entity cramming. Once I am sure I have that worked out I am going to double my setup on the nether side and see how it goes. I may also try attaching my killing chamber on the large portal based one from Ilmango for comparison. Eventually the limiting factor becomes mspt.

There are magma cube spawners? That's far more important imo......
@heatran41092 жыл бұрын
Only in treasure bastions The main reason it isn’t used (I think) is that magma cubes already spawn a lot in basalt deltas so we can make farms there, while if you use a spawner other mobs in nearby biomes could take up the mob cap a bit
