The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 2 continues!
In this tutorial, we build a Froglight farm! Using powder snow, a handful of blocks and the Magma Cube spawner from a Treasure Room Bastion Remnant, we build a simple setup to split magma cubes down until they're at the smallest size. Then we move in a bunch of frogs, and the Froglights start rolling in! We get hold of Verdant and Ochre Froglights today, and will add white frogs to acquire Pearlescent Froglights later. It even gives you bonus Magma Cream!
Along the way we discuss some easy ways to remove lava without fire resistance potions, the best ways of getting your frogs to the Bastion, and where to breed frogs for the different varieties!
Season 2 world seed: -3821426255058016680
Season 2 of the Minecraft Survival Guide will teach you how to master Survival Mode in Minecraft 1.18 and beyond!

A nether portal made in a treasure room bastion, that connects to a geode, submerged in an underwater cave, under an ocean with an ocean monument and a shipwreck nearby. That's some spectacular luck.

1 layer of glass above the spawner 7x7 is enough to block spawn. I did that. I didn't think it's that easy. Edit. I didn't know the scaffolding trick. Neat. My bastion is in basalt delta. currently have all 3 froglights on the agenda for my Minecraft realm, this will be amazingly helpful. Heck, I haven't even acquired a cold or even TEMPERATE frog because we're in a world seed that's completely engulfed in mangrove swamp and jungle biomes. That is something my friend and I will have to look out for, but we do have nether portals hooked up to places that have other biomes. edit: quick question, why are solid blocks necessary for the landing pad at the bottom of the farm where the magma cubes fall into? couldn't you just use honey blocks to prevent the magma cubes from jumping out of the powdered snow?

Would a floor of hoppers (under the living hoppers :-) ) with carpet/moss carpet on them push the frogs or small cubes up into the snow blocks, or are they short enough to coexist? I've never been fond of the railway collection system if there was an alternative. :-/

@@Pixlriffs That is a thought, if you can afford the honey and the iron..IIRC, aren't honey blocks in that 'slightly less than full' catagory that plain hoppers can pull through (if so, then a floor of honey blocks, with a layer of hoppers underneath)? Like I said, I've always kinda disliked the cart on rails means of collection...probably stems from back when unloading the chunk could cause the minecart to stop or even disappear.

For anyone wondering about the weird subtitles at 10:05, I can explain. It's kinda technical, but I am gonna try to dumb it down. Minecraft saves assets (textures, sounds, text etc.) in two places: the download itself (i.e. the jar file) and a thing called the asset index. The asset index is what saves sounds and what subtitles they produce, while the jar file saves all the English US translations for text (and also all textures but that isn't the point). The asset index is automatically updated by Mojang every time they release a new snapshot or release version. At the time of writing, Minecraft 1.19.1 has not been released yet, but its snapshots have. This means that the asset index has been updated to 1.19.1, which fixes a bug with tadpoles growing up without producing any subtitles, and so the asset index tells the game to show the translation of "subtitles.entity.tadpole.grow_up" in the subtitles when a tadpole grows up. Minecraft 1.19 does not have that translation though, so it stays as the raw string. Wow that was long.

i love seeing how different players deal with these kinds of farms, so many variations but almost all seam to use the same mechanics with the powder snow in some form or the other, btw 2 frogs of each kind is plenty enough to deal with the magma cubes that the spawner produce, which might make things a little easier to breed and transport the frogs.
@soultundra7869
@soultundra7869 2 жыл бұрын
8 frogs of each colour seems to work quite well for a spawning platform farm... depending where you build I guess... mines on the nether ceiling (Java) and AFK spot is waaaay above the roof, so it spawns a LOT of cubes... Guessing you could do more or less depending on the size of your spawning platform, but 8 seems to just about keep on top of the baby cubes in each section of my farm :)
@pesegolsson
@pesegolsson 2 жыл бұрын
@@soultundra7869 yes if you have a lot of spawns and you use the "natural" spawn mechanism you might need more frogs. But if you use the spawner in a bastion, 2 of each seams to be enough. Never seen a cube survive for long. The frogs are very hungry creatures. 😀

Nice! One suggestion to help minimize frog-wrangling hassles: don't bother to breed the white (warm) frogs in the overworld. Instead, bring some tadpoles and slimeballs to the nether, release a tadpole at a time into a little pit, and slimeball it to adulthood before it can suffocate. It will mature into a warm frog.

Technically you only need to block the layer right above the spawner, since magma cubes, like slimes, can only spawn if their largest form would fit - and large slimes or magma cubes are slightly higher than 2 blocks. Technically it should even be enough to fill in the corner and edge/area center blocks of the 7x7 area right above the spawner. For the same reason you probably want your spawning area to be 11x11 for maximum spawning efficiency.

Honestly, I think it wouldn't have worked if frogs ate fireflies to create Froglights. They'd just leave them all over the swamp, regardless of whether you wanted them or not, because fireflies would spawn there as well. So you'd just end up with random dropped froglights littering the ground. Plus there were no other planned interactions with Fireflies. Even as an ambient mob, it's not great if the frogs eat them all and poop them out before the player even gets there.

Thankyou Pixlrifs. Neat design, and the tip about enclosing the spawner in dirt is a good reminder to turn them off while building. I built it and it is working great. One tweak I made is to NOT use rails and instead use hoppers under mud bricks to collect items. Oh yeah, but how, some may ask... Snow blocks spaced as in this tutorial, skip one layer, then a layer of vertical chains so large and medium get broken up by the snow, , then only smallest magma cubes fall through to a floor of mud where the frogs are kept. (The frogs do not jump above the chains anyway even if it is a tight space). Then under that is a layer of hoppers and normal collection chests however you see fit.
