Actually, the concept of religion was started by the west. There isn't a single mention of Hinduism as a religion in Indian ancient texts. Hinduism is basically a "dharma" which means responsibility. Hinduism is about knowing your responsibilities as a human. It teaches you to love and to respect every form regardless of its nature. We believe that God is everywhere. He is in every particle. He is smaller than the smallest yet bigger than the biggest.

Hinduism endorses and applauds the rape and sexual violence against women and girls. But Brihaspati, even after the tales of rape, is still a God in India. No God in India was ever demoted, leave alone “prosecuted,” for raping a women. Every rape in Indian stories is given a clean chit. It is merely what macho men do; it is just normal. Indian mythology conditions people to attach zero consequence to rape. Furthermore, it is not just rape-all kinds of sordid sex that the modern West would consider taboo is glorified and normalized in old Indian Scriptures. The God Vishnu is said to have raped Tulsi/Vrinda by assuming the guise of her husband: On seeing her husband, Vrinda was delighted, she forgot her sorrow, dormant passions kindled up. She embraced her husband right there in the middle of the forest. But, at the end of the intercourse she realized that it was Vishnu and not her husband. Vrinda rebuked him angrily. Vrinda said, “Fie on Vishnu in outraging the modesty of another man’s wife.” Yet this horrible act is justified and glorified, because Indians believe that Tulsi’s husband, Shankachuda/Jalandhar, was invincible in war unless her chastity was first destroyed. Therefore to defeat Jalandhar, it was imperative and gallant of Vishnu to rape Tulsi. Vishnu is seen as a hero for raping her. Then there is God Brihaspati. He is the Guru of all Indian Gods. @@laraandrews9710 Some people can't simply grasp diversity, can they? They need 1 book to define their entire philosophy. Unfortunately, a syncretic religion like Hinduism does not work like that. Except the Vedas, which form an important pillar of Hinduism, no Hindu is supposed to believe all Puran and Upanishads. We literally can't, they're all contradictory! Though you could question the Vedas and still be Hindu, such as the followers of Nastik schools of Hinduism. Do you get exactly how narrow your vision is? You choose to highlight one Puran and extrapolate it to the entirety of Hinduism's stance against women. But you fail to mention the respect commanded by women in Shakti Puran. Why so? It's also a Puran, why don't you consider it Hinduism too? Leave Puran, have you ever read what the Rigved says for women? At the essence of Hinduism lies freedom of thought and skepticism. I know it's a bit hard to grasp for you, but this means EVERYONE was allowed to say/write their views. The sickos too. But Hinduism doesn't force you to believe all of them. As a general rule of thumb, Vishnu devotees likely won't believe the story which you said, they don't need to since the Puran were mot the most reliable source or final word on that God/Goddess and so your vile assumption of Vishnu devotees worshipping a Dev who raped someone is just that - an assumption. An assumption borne out of ignorance and a sense of hollow superiority. By your logic, the Bible showed God vehemently against Sodomy. So their God was fanatically homophobic and doesn’t deserve to be worshipped? Quran has instances of rape and sexual slavery, so you will persuade them to stop worshipping theor God? I don't know what you get out of being so hateful or what sort of problem you have with Hinduism, but it is your loss that you fail to appreciate it and grasp its complexity. Really? Any good pandit at a Puja or Katha will explain the meaning and philosophy behind each ritual. But Indian media has done an excellent job of painting all normal Brahmins as comedic relief and Babas and Sadhus as conmen. Instead of filtering out the bad ones, people simply won't go to Gurus (whose job is to ponder upon these scriptures). So of course you will turn to online platforms like this. We have Hindu people presenting their views online too, but they're rarely encouraged. If the Indian government allows Hindus to have their religious schools, a right which all other religions in India except Hinduism have, then maybe the younger generation can actually learn about their religion in an organised manner. But we have been denied that right, so our sources are media (same old serials on Ramayan, Mahabharat, Shiv-Parvati etc which focus on drama instead of philosophy) and channels like this.

We don't necessarily 'look forward' to death and adopt full-on pessimism. Life and death is just the path/journey to the true goal that is moksha. We don't (or at least try our best not to) become pessimistic because of all the bumps in the road. They are just part of the road. Similarly, the good things are also part of it and, we try not to get sucked into becoming too materialistic either. The road isn't to blame. That is just its nature. It's simply the journey, nothing more, nothing less. We try and do our best to happily fulfil our dharma along the way in the meantime. We go through the journey, but the point is to have a map (dharma) to realise the true destination (moksha) while you are travelling, so you don't just wander aimlessly (samsara) and get lost and stuck somewhere. Also, one slight thing- living and dying forever isn't technically a punishment for sinning per se. That is just a fundamental law of nature. But yes, sinners will be stuck in the cycle due to what they have done. Kama is not just sex. It means desire and hence includes love, desire, pleasure, and happiness as well. Other than that- a good video. The cosmic totality part was really good.

someone commented "why do hindus worship statues" i responded but i want to post my comment here for others to see :) there were people who were able to achieve such calmness of the mind that they could recognize that there was something that breathes life into everything around us. Every atom is made up of energy. energy cannot be created nor destroyed only transferred. those concepts are so ethereal when we think about it, and hinduism was aware of it long before we put it in a chemistry textbook. but the great yogi's and brahmins who understood these concepts knew that people would benefit from something they could physically look at and worship in order to better understand them. they put a face to the life forces they knew they could feel. i dont think there actually is a blue faced 8 armed guy. maybe the hindus who are blindly following their parents religion think that. My parents are Hindus but I am a first generation Canadian. Life has been tough for many reasons. i've been battling depression since i was 13 for about 8 years now. i am the biggest skeptic there is, i will NEVER believe something until it makes sense to me. i truly have come to realize that being close to nature: breathing, meditating, eating healthy, letting go of our human/ego tendencies, is how you achieve peace. observing instead of controlling, and not shaming our human nature (sex for example) and calling it a sin like the West does. at one point India was a very sexually free country. they only became prude after the British invaded. The bad that occurs in the world is the aftermath of people's greed and selfishness. it doesn't mean this world is bad but it's a reflection of the human race's mindset at the moment, materialistic and "every man for themselves". one day we will have to learn. and i really think it's in the hands of my generation (Gen Z), because we are growing up in an era where the idea of beauty, money, and competition is getting shoved down our throats to a point it is making us sick. we have more mental disorders than any generation before us, and the solution is not anti-depressants. the solution is to return to nature. to take care of our bodies and forget about trying to be the best of the best of the best. we are tired of being pawns in this capitalist world and we will break free, think for ourselves, and realize that what really matters is unity. To return to eastern ideologies instead of the Western ones that have been fueled by colonialism. First generation immigrant children hold the answer to healing. every struggle you go through is a step towards learning that our human instincts (ego, selfishness, jealousy) is not the answer to achieving true peace of mind. at the same time i don't think western ideologies are utterly useless aha. it's the reason we have advanced as fast as we have. everything has purpose. We would never have truly appreciated the wisdom of Eastern ideologies without feeling all of this organized chaos first😂 think about parenting. in nature, a mother bear for example, takes care of the child's every need, lets the babies have fun and throw tantrums; and she is a good role model of what an adult bear should be. she's not perfect; sometimes mama bear is angry or tired, but she is good at being a bear. then, as soon as the cub is old enough, it's let out into the wild and, wow look at that, it's fully capable of taking care of itself. i believe that is the way children should be raised! But instead, parents nowadays are children in adult clothes, with poor mental health and morale. then they try and TEACH their kids how to be good people as if thats gonna do anything😂 look to nature for the answer. an alcoholic dad can't tell his son not to drink that's just not how it works.

"An essentially decentralized faith where experience is central, skepticism integral, belief voluntary and text subservient" - this definition captures the key difference. Since experience is central, not subscription, multiple paths can coexist and avoids the inevitable acrimony that arises when more than one group claims 'if you're not in my exclusive club, you are damned'. History centrism is not needed. (History centrism; One event that happened at one time, never again, and that one version of the event/people/story in a text is critical part of the faith). Exploration and understanding is encouraged and so skepticism is needed to make sense. Rajiv Malhotra's Being Different is a good read that articulates these much better.

The Arpit Pathak: since you know all the principles of Hinduism tell us why only the upper castes, today, are dvita...twice-born? As much as you try to hide the true nature of pagan Hinduism, the truth comes out.

As u mentioned in the 1st line of this video, let me tell there is actually no way to convert to hinduism in any of our ancient texts or scriptures do not contain any ways of converting faith of people unlike Islam and Christianity(Pls no hate to other religion😊)

Yes, but I think the point of the video was to explain that it's a way of life, not a religion, per se. Reading up on or finding other ways to learn to practice and meditation, kindness, prosperity and having good consensual sex, seems like a good way of implementing the practice 😀 😄 😉

This is so beautifully put forward, the very hidden essence of Hinduism being the way of life. I was also reminded of how we do anticipate and acknowledge death in our culture. There are typically 4-13 day rituals post someone’s death based on each Hindu sect, that are so intricate and purposeful, that enable mourning in time and healing at the idea of the soul liberating from the bodily pains. The perspective on how we view wealth, household, duties, materialism as well as idealism has been explained very well. Hinduism probably takes the most non-binary perspective on life. The Eastern perspective, while difficult to interpret, is truly the way to find peace.
@MrPeaceGuy542 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I think that the creators of this video made Hinduism look like a "pessimistic" religion, even though that's not the case. We are free to live a familial life, and liberation is about affirming our oneness, not just "escaping" life.

Originally "Hindu" was a geographical identity, it is what Persians called people from Indian subcontinent, the word "Hindu" comes from the word "Sindhu" (which was name of a ancient kingdom of India, in Sanskrit it literally means a large body of water, originally used for rivers & it cans means sea as well. Persians used to pronounce "S" as "H", for ex:- Rivers in present day Iran Haraxvatī and Harahvaiti are named after Saraswati. The essence fo this great civilizational culture is in seeking, basis of seeking lies in accepting that you don't know, so it eventually leads to respecting other perspectives as well, also you can worship anyone or anything cuz essentially it's the qualities that one is worshipping.

As an obsessed student of the "near death experience" the lessons these people bring back and much more in line with the thinking of Hinduism then other religions..although not exactly. live's challenges are simply to build the soul, we learn the lessons we need to with each life..... we choose in advance the challenges our soul needs... when we finally get it right we no longer feel a need to come back to the physical.

Well, TSoL just explained the 4 purusharthas (noble purposes) of Hinduism through 4 sections in the video: 1. Look forward to true and final death- Moksha 2. Rejoin cosmic totality, look beyond Maya- Dharma 3. Don’t forget Money- Artha 4. Don’t disown pleasures of life, including that of flesh- Kama I’m surprised myself, that the oft repeated purusharthas in our lives and discourse (I am a cultural Hindu not a religious one) actually make sense without asking you to pursue Hindu religious dogma and corrupt priestly practices which somehow defines Hinduism in today’s India due to involvement of too much rabid politics into it.
@randomplebian4612 жыл бұрын
How so? I am an agnostic and I know people who don't go to temples or participate in rituals. They are still Hindu and no one tells them they aren't. Rituals are a big part of modern Hinduism, but no one will ostracise you even if you stay away from them. At least most Hindus won't, except for a section of fanatics that are to expected in any group.
@anonymousidol16512 жыл бұрын
Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma) is not as easy to understand or explain. Sanatan Dharma is a constant flow of evolving , open to argument knowledge. Yet it is complete . The highest duty of moksha is already pre defined with option as Karma yoga Bhakti yoga Gyan yoga. Vedas are a ultimate source of knowledge. Which is all complete and not superficial.

However, the essential lesson we should draw from Sanathana Dharma (especially Yoga) is recognising and disclosing the trap of dualism. Perception instead of judgment and disintegration. For the universe is united in its multidimensional diversity. It's not as easy to accept as it seems to be. Every single being is unique but not separate from the others at the same time.
