Nice one! I've been doing the wrapping duct tape round spanners in my motorcycle tool kit for ages and it has got me (and some mates) out of trouble over the years. I love the pencil+keyring trick, never seen it before and will be doing that one!

Thanks for the tips, Blunty! I used to always just sorta flatten out the roll which works decently, but I'll be sure to use that pencil trick from now on!

Haha, Blunty I am 1 month into a 7 month around the world trip, my one MUST on the packing list (other than my camera gear) was Gaffa Tape! I have used it a lot already to make a float for my GoPro, repair my bag and also made a few other little things. Keep up the great videos!

I usually wrap the lighter colours of tape around my sharpie so I can use my sharpie to write on the tape as well. it works extremely well with the more canvas-like tape of 'PRO-GAFF'. also: at the venue that I work we throw a lot of rolls of "gaffer's tape" away if people bring it in because of the glue used. the wrong roll of tape will leave a hard to remove residue on the surface of what you stuck it on, so make sure you get the kind that feels a bit dryer and it usually has a more solid topcoat.

Blunty, what I usually do is remove the cardboard core from a roll of tape until I get to the sticky part and then flatten it down. This works better with a roll with less than 1/2 cm in thickness left. Thanks for your video!

With the Ikea pencil you also have a handy lubricant for keyholes and such: just scrape off some of the graphite into a powder and funnel it into the keyhole with a folded piece of paper. It actually works better than WD40.

Likewise always take gaffer with me, especially when camping or touring. Fixed one of my tent poles which had bent and then shattered in a Scottish Highlands storm at 2am.

Just a dumb question, does the shiny black/grey backed gaffer tape have the same abilities at the matte black gaffers tape? As in comes off with out sticky residue or is it like regular duct tape?

One of my favourites is to wrap it around an old store loyalty card or something similar. Instant flat roll of tape.

If you need more whilst here in Tokyo, just ask for 'nuno tape'. In case you are not familiar with Japanese pronunciation (and for the benefit of others), 'nuno' is pronounced as 'noo-no'. 'Tape' is 'tape', but sounds more like 'tay-puh'. Easily found almost anywhere, but more likely to be in brown than in black.

Thanks Blunty for sharing your tips, maybe you can make a set of lifehack videos? And may I suggest a little tweak to the pencil method (i bet someone already 've shared it but still) instead of wasting an iphone clip - if you have some spare time to go to a hardware store and buy a metal ring with little screw on the side and screw it in the pencil or woodblock to make yourself a specialized tape dispenser.
@BluntyTV10 жыл бұрын
eye screw. You're trying to describe what's called an eye screw. and no, I don't like them for this kind of application as they can unscrew themselves while the sim-release (or paperclip) taped into place simply cannot come loose.

Thanks for naming that thingy xD Weird - my cork board is hanging on those and never budges even if I am using it a lot. But maybe on wearable solutions it may be not that reliable, I should test it out, thanks.

or you can do what i do: cut a tape sized section out of a bic pen, wrap desired amount of tape around pen, cut about a 5 inch section of paracord, double it over and knot it, feed the now loop of chord through the pen, attach keyring to the loop now sticking out of the other side of your tape roll. The knot in the chord will keep the pen/ tape roll from coming off. Now you have duct tape and a section of paracord with you at all times.

Really helpful and informative. Always useful to have gaffer with you but obviously not always practical to have a whole roll on you, especially if you don't want to be arrested as a terrorist or kidnapper 😂
@HarithBK10 жыл бұрын
blunty you do there are very small cans of WD40 (like the size of a thick pen) and then you stick some silvertape around that and now you WD40 and silvertape in a very tight package

@BluntyTV10 жыл бұрын
Meh. I know people who've carried paracord (those silly bracelets, shoelaces etc) for YEARS and never needed it, not once... plus cordage is pretty easy to improvise (you can even make decent cordage from gaff tape ;) ), but there's no substitute for Gaffer tape, and gaff comes in handy FAR more often.

The only reason to use a Para' for an ordinary city dweller is a grip for something. In other cases I even would find a more suitable substitute (tape?) just because i was too lazy to untie my cord.
