This bought back a memory as a kid when we were bashing thru the snow in dads 76 Patrol and in the middle of nowhere in heavy snow were a bunch of hippies in a Kingswood wagon bogged to the chassis. They were trying to carry their car unsuccessfully so we towed them for miles. We they were all buggered and freezing and had no idea where they were. We used to stay in the bush huts and leave heaps of canned food wherever we stayed. Great fun! Great memories!

@swampypolitics9574
@swampypolitics9574 2 жыл бұрын
@@markrovers9360 it depends. Chains dig. If it's super deep and soft you don't want chains or narrow tires. If it's not super deep and there's a solid base to grip to, then ya narrow tires or chains. That's why people that snow wheel in the mountains use really wide tires and no spin to ride ontop of packed snow. If it's 4'+ of snow the last thing you want is to dig you'll be burried. They deff coulda used chains here, but not the entire time. So putting them on taking them off constantly is a waste if its not absolutely necessary. There's a time and place.

That, or a injector leak. Mine had the same issue. Would not start, and died when pushing hard. Turned out to be a leaky injector, so the ZD30CRD could not get enough rail pressure to start. Needs 5000 psi to start. Would run an injector leakback test.

When running in really deep snow you let off the throttle and hit the brake when you’re slowed to like 2 or 3 miles per hour , If you keep spinning when your stopped you will feel the vehicle settle and now you cannot back up. I’ve driven in very deep fluffy powder so deep it fills the engine compartment right full and you have to clean it out so cooling air can flow through. You try to open your door you have to push the snow with the door. Snow traction can even change in a few hours. I snow wheeled and snowmobiled for over 40 years and there is nothing quite like it! Have fun boys!

Tip on chains when/if you get some Let air out of your tires, put the chains on tight, then pump them back up. Chains won't budge and the tires change shape super good for snow traction. Used to get a few feet a year where I lived, our stock jeep Cherokee was unstoppable in it. Extra bonus is doing chains with studded tires.

Nice to see your back in the snow most are saying snow chains being prepared isn’t a bad thing and diesel heaters are incredible even if it’s a lot colder than zero

I must not be the only one who thinks this. But I reckon Daryl should join every trip from now on. Imagine Daryl in the snow, what a beast.

Jocko, I'm guessing mate that Graham doesn't get to see these episodes until they are released! What with his being on your west coast in W.A. near Perth....and as you east coasters tease, they are behind the times.....because of the time zone thing!🤣🤣🤣🤣😜

I'm hopefully going to buy back my old 4wd this weekend or next. I also found a set of axles for it, but probably won't be able to in time. It's going to need a lot of work, but hopefully sometime next year it will be moving under its own power again. And it will never be for sale so long as I live.

Next time you guys head into the snow buy a set of steel tire chains We use low psi and chains here in Canada and heck it makes a different. Deepest snow I've done with my 4runner was about 4ft with that set up.

He he, no chains in snow? You have never wheeled Lake Tahoe region, Including Rubicon.I did discover a great recipe, thanks Shauno . wheeled my FJ on 33's in El Dorado National forest today. Sad to see all the fire damage from last year. The erosion from snow and rain this winter will be harsh.

Mates it seems that you blokes mised out on an opportunity that could have highlighted the positive features of a snatch-block pulley! And I'm still waiting for the release of the 'Snatch' brand "snatch-block&tackle"! Massively increasing the pulling power of your winch. You should look into it 😉 👍🤙✌️🤞!
