Must we use dâai if we also use láew? Is using both words more proper? It seems to me much of the time I don't hear it used, just láew. For example, "Did you eat yet?" "กินแล้ว"

My Thai teacher told me that I can use ได้ + verb to make the past tense only the negativ way by using ไม่ได้ + verb. She told me ได้ + verb is wrong. Which one is correct?

Summary: 4 meanings of the word ได้ (dâai) 1. It's a shortened form of "daai rap" ได้รับ meaning "to receive" (as in "I received your email"). 2. To mean "can" / "able to" ("I can go to your party"). It goes at the end of the clause (as in, "I go to your party can"). 3. To answer "Yes" to suggested courses of action (like, "Shall we go eat pad thai together?"). Don't accidentally use "chaai" to answer "Yes" to these questions, as that is used to say "that's correct". You can intensify your response by adding "loiie" or "si" after it. 4. When combined with a verb it indicates that the action has already happened, specifically that it was *able* to be done and it already happened. So, like, "Did you get a chance to X?" "Did you manage to X?" These videos are extremely helpful for me, thank you for making them!
