Apples are a great fruit for your baby to consume. They are easy to digest and considered one of the least allergenic foods. Apples are also very easy to prepare and are available all year round in most parts of the world. Plus, your baby is sure to love their sweet flavor.
Babies between the ages of 4 and 6 months can start to eat solid foods, although breast milk or formula should still the supply the majority of calories at this age. Many experts suggest starting with cereal as the first infant food, but fruits and vegetables are good choices, as long as you follow simple guidelines on introducing solid foods.
-- Method to Prepare Apple Puree --
1. Peel, halve, core and chop the apples. Put into a heavy based saucepan with the water or apple juice. Cover and cook over a low heat for 6 to 8 minutes until really tender.
2. Puree in a food processor or place in a bowl and use a hand blender to blend to your desired consistency. Freeze in individual portions.
3. You could also steam the apples for 7 to 8 minutes until tender If steaming you can add some of the boiled water from the bottom of the steamer to thin out the puree.
