I love this video! I’m a nutritionist and I have a 20 month old boy. I tend to feed him lots of fruits and veggies since we started solids and he loves them. I make sure he’s getting plenty of nutritious foods from all foods groups. I get people asking why I don’t give him high sugary juices or candy or junk foods and I always say because the food I feed him the first few years are for his growth and development. It sets the tone for his life. A sugary juice isn’t giving him any nutrient. I’m not saying I won’t ever let him eat it but right now isn’t the time.

Please avoid sugary foods for as long as possible!! Even when your child is 2, avoid vitamin gummies, fruit snacks, dried fruit, etc. they cause cavities so quickly in little baby teeth. We learned the hard way 😢

Most people in Nigeria don't go to the dentist all their lives and their teeth remains perfect. I was so surprised when I moved to America and someone was shocked I have never seem a dentist. She said it can't possibly be with that teeth. Not giving my life any sugars until they can take it themselves. I didn't know sugars existed as a kid, most of us in Nogeria didn't. Most packaged foods were for special occasions while day to day was natural / home processed foods

Keep in mind that in the first year the primary source of nutrition is breastmilk/formula. Starting solids during this time is about exploring different flavors and textures, introducing allergenic foods slowly to reduce the risk of allergies, developing chewing skills etc. You can start with one meal a day and gradually 3 times a day.

In Europe, in particular in Sweden, pediatricians insist, yes, insist on giving babies liver. Yes liver. Because babies need a lot of iron for their development. But according to American pediatricians school, baby body can’t extract nutrients from the food. Which one is the right one?

Start with veggies …..I don’t give baby and fruits for the first month. ( starting at 6 months of course) I like to get baby used to veggies before they prefer fruit due to higher sugar content.

Very informative. We started out on purées for two months using Yumi to get a variety of fruits and vegetables in. Especially since the time of year we started, the fresh fruit and vegetables were not great. Have since moved onto food and at 9 months, he’s doing great. He’s allergic to milk and salmon so far. With a sensitivity to bananas. So finding any form of yogurt with no milk that is not too thick is awful. It’s either super runny (basically purée which he hates now) or too thick. So we use the organic yogurt mills from a company that uses coconut milk instead. Overall he loves all food so far. We did offer blueberries and grapes at 7 months cup up and smooshed, and he loved them. So just kinda working and finding what is good for your baby. But very informative for next time when I want to start out with just BLW.

For baby has eczema, and eczema easily triggered when they touch on stuff. Would you recommend trying baby led weaning method or parents feed for the first 3-6 months. Does baby's first food has to be puree food like rice cereal or oatmeal cereal if my rice is an important food in my culture but not in my family? And does it matter if i introduce rice cereal for 3 days, and then switch to other first food introduced in this video?

Thank you so much for the video!! When it comes to reducing the risk of choking, what sizes (avocado, banana, squash) should be avoided, and is it better to make foods less mushy, or more? We introduced steamed squash, however, our 6month old would squeeze the large crescent slices into much smaller pieces and I’m not sure if that defeated the purpose of the large slice to begin with.

I live in China and our baby eats a version of whatever we are eating. Eating with hands here is kind of frowned upon as being dirty, so many small items are just mixed in with a rice soup. He gobbles down everthing in front of him and has the most awesome daily shits that don't really even stink. Lucky me!!!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on a vegan diet for my infant. I was vegetarian for 10 years and have now been vegan for 5 years. It’s something that is very important to me and ideally I’d like my baby to have a vegan diet as well. My plan is to keep her on a vegan diet until she is old enough to make her own decisions about what she wants to eat (I just don’t like the idea of feeding her something I wouldn’t even eat myself). She is 7 months old. Is it okay for her to follow my vegan diet, or does this decision hinder her development in any way?

Graham crackers, cheerios, the puffs and biscuits made for babies by gerber and other baby food companies? Where do those foods lie? In the first foods, or more advanced eaters or the foods best avoided? They were recommended when my older girls were babies but allot of recommendations have changed since then (14 years ago).

Don't think your baby will choke on the little pieces they are able to bite off. My lo has a very strong gum bite, so I gave her raw carrots and apple slices as early as 4 months. Not to eat, but to get that mechanism working. Always closely monitored, of course. She's older now, won't eat baby food, but she can chew and has never choked. Lol

Actually banana and avocado didn’t work for our daughter as a first food. She was vomiting a lot after eating those. Cooked food worked just great. She was able to digest banana and avocado several months later, closer to a year.

I read that in the beginning that food starting out should be mainly for tasting and they won’t be getting too many calories from it so to continue regular milk intake until they are eating more

Up until 9 months of age, the solids are just for tastes and learning to eat. Almost all of their daily nutrition should still come from breastmilk/formula. After that age they start to be eating more and their desire for milk may start to drop off a little. After 12 months of age, milk consumption should ideally be only about 16-24oz a day max.

Listing nut butters as "avoid" is misleading. It's very important to introduce them early but appropriately as you cover.

i though it's best to avoid cow's milk before 12 months (ie yogurt) due to interaction with iron absorption, casein, and filling them up too much and best to stay with breastmilk instead?
