Let’s talk about my recent weight loss… not the first time I’ve lost and gained (and lost) weight on this channel - but the first time I’ve got the help of a drug to do it. Here’s my experience so far after 4 months taking semaglutide (the compounded version of drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy).

Compounded semaglutide is not without its risks. It is not FDA approved, and in fact, the FDA has warned about shady pharmacies taking shortcuts in production. "Patients should be aware that some products sold as 'semaglutide' may not contain the same active ingredient as FDA-approved semaglutide products and may be the salt formulations. Products containing these salts, such as semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate, have not been shown to be safe and effective."

I'm on Mounjaro for my diabetes. My A1c went from 12.3 to 4.7. I've also lost 89 lbs. The freedom from the constant thoughts of food and the ability to do physical things that I couldn't before is such a relief.

So true! My blood lab results are absolutely PERFECT, including my blood pressure and my cholesterol. I'm 49 yo. I walk everywhere, hate fast food (the smell🤮), used to ran marathons in my 30s. And yes, I'm overweight. My wonderful and beautiful friend eats like two young men, hates to walk and she's struggling with being too thin. We all are so different indeed.

I have been on Wegovey for a month and a half. I have lost 20 lbs and have had no side effects. I really was getting worried at first about getting adequate nutrition but I’ve been able to focus on protein and eliminate fast and processed foods. This is the best thing that happened for my health. I have nothing bad to say about it. I want to lose 40 more pounds that I just have not been able to do on willpower alone. I too, am sick of the yo-yo dieting and the uncontrollable gluttony. Thank God for this drug.

You described that so well I went through gastric bypass 12 years ago and that part of my brain is still not off, the one thing that bothers me is that most people don't understand being overweight your whole life is because you have a problem in your brain... eating when you dont feel hunger and just exactly like you said! After watching an ad. I have come to name it as a food addiction, you just cant stop eating or just eat like a normal person. Congrats on your improved health and weight loss!
@tiffanyhanson3701
@tiffanyhanson3701 4 ай бұрын
Another thing people don’t understand is that one person with food noise may only be eating the equivalent of 100 more calories than a thin person, or perhaps even 100 less calories than that thin person. But 90% of those thin people feel superior to the person that is struggling.

I’m on it too! My doctor put me on it! I lost 38 lbs in about 7 months. So I’m at 199 pounds. I was so thrilled to finally reach 199! I’m diabetic too. It’s helped enormously with keeping my sugars stable. It keeps me from feeling hungry all the time. You explained it very well the way our brain works without the med and with the med! Exactly how it is with me too!

Food noise: I can’t believe how much time and mental energy I used to spend planning what I was going to eat for lunch or dinner. I have so much more time now and more money! My food budget is sooo much smaller. Thanks for speaking out about this. I talk about it a lot on my socials because there’s so much disinformation out there. Plus, so many people hide that they are taking it for fear of judgement.

Okay, hard truth time. Type II, high bp, high resting pulse rate, arthritic knees, herniated discs, degenerative changes that are happening way too fast in my spine and I have to have nerves treated with electricity, radio ablation, so it kills the nerve and gives me about 8 months without such heinous amounts of pain that I cannot sit/stand/lay down to sleep/be comfortable in ANY position for years. I began Ozempic and lost nearly 90 lbs in a year, I have lost another 37 pounds since January and am now not taking any diabetic meds, no more blood pressure meds, better resting pulse, better moving, better all over. It has been an invaluable tool in letting me work at this and letting me be stronger when it comes to the food grazing and emotional eating I had been doing for years. Some do not do well on these types of meds but I have been one of the very lucky ones and have been successful in loosing without rebounding like I did with every other 'diet' I had tried since I was a teenager. Glad you are having good results too and I hope you are able to continue the therapy that has worked for you!

Don’t give up! With the right meds and other tricks those things can be managed and get so much better. Also, Mounjaro has less side effects and is even better for diabetics. The long term complications from diabetes are so awful and much worse than these side effects. Please give it another try. It’s saving so many lives including my family members!

There are FDA dosing schedules for diabetics and non-diabetics, with the diabetic dose starting at 0.5mg/week and non-diabetic being 0.25mg. If you were started at the diabetic dose, that might be one reason for the severe side effects. Another reason is that roughly 20% of patients are very sensitive to the medication and we need to provide a custom dosing schedule (like starting at 0.125mg/week and NOT increasing the dose every 4 weeks). Also because the medication slows how quickly your stomach empties after eating, often there is food sitting in your stomach when you go to sleep. There are two ways your stomach secretes acid, one is resting acid secretion and the other is food-stimulated acid secretion. The best treatment is an H2 blocker like Zantac 360 because it blocks food-stimulated acid secretion. I often have to switch patients from a PPI (resting acid secretion) like Prilosec/Omeprazole to an H2 blocker like Zantac 360 to better manage the heartburn. If you would like to discuss this, you can call or email us and I would be happy to talk to you -Dr. Itri

Ultimately leading to diabetes, many other health issues and eventually losing his ability to walk. His weight was so high he could no longer walk and was bed ridden and eventually lost his life to a stroke. These medications were NEVER offered to him! I’m so pissed and sad because it never should have ended that way for him. He lived for food because he couldn’t stop the noise. Even his vacations revolved around where he was going to eat. I'm so sorry you struggle with food noise. Just in case people can't go the semaglitude route, this experience sounds exactly like my turnaround with adhd meds, specifically Vyvanse (which is prescribed for BED as well, but I never fit that diagnostic criteria). ZERO food noise until I'm hungry. I easily stop when full (slow down and forget to finish). Finally, it makes things too sweet. I can eat a few chips and be satisfied, etc. That silenced the mental OCD of obsessing, counting, earning left behind of 2 decades of eating disorders (both under/over eating/exercising/) in 20 min flat. I've done a lot of work since then (3 years) such that I'm at an incredibly healthy/balanced adult weight (lowest ever 98, highest ever 320), and I can take breaks from meds, and the food noise is reduced a ton off meds, though best managed while on them. Therapy, time, and meds recalibrated my brain. You got this short and long term!

I’m super thin but I understand that it’s incredibly hard for most people to keep weight off. If it was easy - 42% of Americans wouldn’t be obese. What we need to do is ban foods with no nutritional value. Because those foods are so highly profitable- it will never happen. I do think GLP1’s will save lives. A lot of lives. Here is the caveat- for anyone considering these drugs please please please take them with a weight/resistance training program. The quick weight loss will 100% result in muscle mass loss as well as fat loss. The muscle itself is necessary for a healthy metabolism. Most overweight and obese people are under- muscled with already slowed metabolism. Please consider building lean muscle or using weight training to preserve lean muscle while using GLP1’s so that once the weight is lost - your metabolism will either become or remain healthy. Currently 70% of people gain all of the weight back once they stop the GLP1 and a huge part of that is because they destroy what metabolism they had in the first place. A full body workout even twice per week can offset this side effect.

Preaching to the choir! I am 52 and have been overweight and prediabetic for over 30 years. was gestational diabetic with both pregnancies. Same starting weight as you same height. Now being prescribed BP meds which I don't want to have to take. have had my doctors prescribe me the GLP 1s but my insurance won't cover ANYTHING for weightloss has to be for type 2 diabetes even though like I said I have been prediabetic for 30 years. I've done keto, carnivore, I'm gluten sensitive, don't eat crap, walk every day and the scale won't budge 😪joint pain, exhaustion, don't want to become type 2 but I guess they want you to get there? ugh Thank you for sharing all of the really straight forward information. I'm so happy that this is helping you. I went on it for 3 months through a weightloss clinic and unfortunately had a rough time. I was nauseous almost all the time. Couldn't eat much or it would come back up. And in the end I got diverticulitis and had to stop. But I had absolutely no hunger and the physical weakness that went along with that. I've been thinking about trying again and just staying on a very low dose instead of titrating up.

My provider told me to pay attention throughout because I might not need to get all the way to the full therapeutic dose, and that some people can top out somewhere in the middle and that's all they need. Definitely talk to your provider about that - it could be that you don't need as much.

I cried a little bit with you. And I'm so happy for you and your brain that you've experienced this change. I've been gaining weight steadily for the past 10 years. My brain isn't my problem, my problem is a debilitating fatigue that is part of having MS. I've been fighting with my insurance company for almost 5 years because they will not cover 2 drugs that are options I would like to TRY to see if they would work but I don't meet the "criteria" for coverage. I understand your irritation/anger with they whole system. I share your bafflement about why I'm not allowed to try a drug to PREVENT ever meeting the criteria that would qualify me for the drug. Congrats on taking the risk, the weight loss, and being proactive about your health and preventing major health issues.

Beaker Pharmacy is awesome. I am paying $179. A month. I have just started using semaglutide and have no side effect yet. I’ve lost about 3 lbs. my first week. I don’t have a lot to lose. Maybe about 30 lbs. to get to my desired weight. I don’t know where you live… I believe some states are very different. I am very happy so far.. time will tell. Find a good compounding pharmacy. Brilliant! The way you explained “food noise “ in the brain was extraordinary! I agree with everything… And the pleasure center of our brains seeking a feeling of reward in food. .. that’s sometimes non stop. I’ve lost 30 pounds and the only way I manage to keep it off for 6 years is by enjoying “planned cheats” built into my diet…. my favorite foods scattered throughout my week of eating…. some chocolate, real sour cream, a little ice cream, bread & butter, etc. So that I’ve tricked my brain into thinking “we’re not dieting” in some way…. and keeping my reward center happy! This way my brain & body aren’t sabotaging me… and just waiting for the opportunity to gain back all the weight I’ve lost… and then some! Yes I know that’s really hard to then just STOP eating that delicious food! But honestly, unless you’re an Olympic athlete constantly exercising to burn the calories you eat.. most of us have to watch our weight the rest of our lives. I wish you awesome luck! They may not recognize you next time you go to Ireland!

I feel the same way about our "healthcare." America is a disease management system and not about health. Sickness makes money. Doctor's don't know anything about nutrition and now, at 56, I'm dealing with the fact that they know nothing about menopause. You have to be your own advocate. I've been so pissed off that I cannot get certain tests to learn more about my body for prevention as I age. Nope, you can't get that, only when you are already sick! I'm heading into my 8th week of semiglutide as menopause gave me weight gain that won't budge. It's been great, but worried once I"m done. I won't be on it indefinitely due to cost. Good luck!

Hi Shelley, I just found your channel and loved listening to all you had to say. I am a good bit older than you and like you have been on many programs in the past trying to get down to goal weight. I also.asked my GP and she said no because she didn’t have time to monitor me every four weeks which in her opinion she would need to do. So I went the telehealth route and located a provider online who was a nurse practitioner like myself and started the compound version of Tirzepatide. I didn’t want to try semiglutide because my son was on Ozempic briefly and became very sick had to go off of it. My granddaughter lost 60 pounds on it with the Henry meds version but she also had a lot of side effects most of the time. I started in October and I have lost 49 pounds and feel really good and love the medication. Earlier this year my insurance decided to make Zepbound third tier so I can get it for about the same cost as the compound but now it’s on back order and you can’t get it anywhere. So I’m back to the remainder of my compound and may end up having to stay with that. I do plan to do so for maintenance. Also pretty mad here about how this has been handled both by the manufacturers of both medication‘s and also the insurance companies. I would absolutely agree about the freedom from Food noise which I have lived with all of my life probably from age 10 a while back, they speculated that depression might be a side effect of this medication, but in fact, I felt much less depressed because I no longer had to deal with the food noise so I think it has been an anti-depressant for me. I was also happy to see that you do the reviews on the skincare products and will be listening and watching for all of those too thank you. Great video.❤ Peggy.
@goow
@goow 4 ай бұрын
Welcome, Peggy! I completely agree re: the depression. I was in such a bad head space of berating myself for being "weak" and a "failure" around food that the absence of food noise has eliminated what really was the only negative self-talk I had going on. I was just telling a friend yesterday that since I started taking this, I'm the most "me" I've ever felt in my life, and it feels so good. I have hope. I see the future and it is bright. It's such a relief.

" I'm not a hot mess, but i dont mess around " (love it!) We have to take charge of our bodies. I did the same. I live in Canada and i do not have diabetes but i do have high cholesterol (dislipidemia) which is just an abnormal level of lipids in the body that contribute to stroke and heart disease. I would get your cholesterol checked regularly, too. My blood pressure is good as well. But it starts with cholesterol. Also, hereditary and lifestyle factors. My father had diabetes, was overweight and developed hesrt disease. You need to report family history. I did 23 and me health report. It was so worth it. I told me i had a genetic marker that predisposed me to type 2 diabetes. I reported all this to my doctor and was prescribed Ozempic. Its totally curbed my appetite. Lost 10 pounds in the first 6 weeks. I had no idea about med spa 's selling alternative otc semaglutide. Here in Canada, im not sure if this is approved.

Their prices are no where near $500 per month. They use doctors as well and very reputable compound pharmacy’s. I don’t think the compounds are going anywhere. The pharmaceutical companies can’t keep up with the demand. It’s the pharmaceutical companies that are causing the problem with prices on these medications. Our government certainly needs to put controls on them. They rip off consumers in America for sure. I loved your video and you did a wonderful job explaining the process. I’ll be sharing with others.

This was something I didn’t understand until I became an adult. I loved my mom dearly but she unknowingly put her own struggles with weight onto me as a young girl. So throughout the years I’ve gone 2:43 from being someone who didn’t want to someone who couldn’t stop eating. This is important to talk about because it is an emotional and a chemical response. I think it’s important to understand how food affects us and I’m so glad you’ve geeked out and did the research for us! Now I have diabetes and my insurance won’t cover ozempic.
