Yeah FOMO is taking control! But to a lot of people the initial run is the best opportunity to scalp, it's gross but people do it. I imagine a lot of the ones saying the ship has sailed mean their opportunity to do a quick flip and make some easy money.

Yea I really don’t understand who are buying a prismatic pokecenter etb for 200 bucks . Most of this stuff is a good investment if you buy it at msrp or lower, but if it’s already 4x msrp, you’ve cut into your own possible profits so much. Better to wait or watch the next set release like a hawk.

In a sense you are right but if it’s already that price. And it’s for something like a PC ETB you got 1-2 restocks maybe and it won’t be back. Might as well buy it at the resale price.I agree it’s better to get at msrp if possible.

Taking out loans is a big no no, or any form of financial debt purely to be able to buy Pokemon products! I touched on it in my video that especially over the holiday season make sure to prioritise what's more important and don't go crazy despite Pokemon booming!

I used poke notify but it sends out stuff that’s not in stock or is priced higher than it says. Example 151 poster boxes for 25 instead of 16.

How fast are you checking though? A lot of the most recent deals are unfortunately being botted up which means they're gone in seconds. Then on platforms like Walmart, Target, and Amazon the originally low-priced ones once sold out are replaced by the next lowest priced ones. Likke the $16 poster collections sold out so the platform automatically starts showing those $25 third party seller ones.

7:00 maybe the guy who’s having trouble selling his $599 usd surging sparks booster case on eBay is because he’s trying to sell it for 1.5-2x the price it’s worth and it’s only 2 weeks after release day. Nobody who has actually been collecting Pokémon cards for longer than 1 year would pay that much for a brand new set booster box this close to release date, especially when Pokémon just tripled their tcg production this year from last year.

I'm currently selling all my under performing investments, I don't like the idea of filling my house with stuff that I will have to hold onto until I'm 50. I think it's smarter to offload under performing investments, and invest that money back into better things. The long term buy and wait plan has too many flaws if you don't cull the herd occasionally. I made about $2500 this past week selling my celebrations, disgusting shining fates and champion's path stuff, I'm putting most of that into prismatic evolutions and some into surging sparks which I guarantee will be worth more in less time than the things I just sold despite being much newer.

Just got into the hobby, thanks to TCG Pocket. My investment strategy has been to just buy low, look for deals, and never spend beyond my means. I managed to purchase several Target ETBs, Walmart Collections, and Surging Sparks BBs for cost ($150ea). I almost fomo'ed and purchased the Walmart tins, but inconsistencies with some containing Evolving Skies and some that dont stopped me from yolo-ing my money. I'm just going to stick to PC ETBs and BBs. If i find a product less than cost, let's go.

People often look at everyone else, and wants to do better than others at the same kinda investment. Imagine you bought a booster box at 100$, and one year later you sell it at 200$. Then, one year later again, you see someone sell that same booster box for 300$. "Aaah, should have held onto it." you might think. But, here is the point. Imagine you took that 200$ you sold it at, and bought 2 booster boxes. Then sold those for 200$ each at the same time the other seller sold his for 300$. You "lost" the battle of one booster box, but you won the war. Diamond hands works sometimes, but nearly never.

This is not always the case, and is even not usually the case. For every Surging Sparks there is a Paradox Rift that stagnates for years. As the obvious extreme example, people who held onto Evolving Skies from the start are laughing at all of the flippers who sold at $400. In order to do what you are talking about, people need to be able to definitively choose the correct sets, dodge reprints, and sell at the exact right time. Which is easy with the benefit of hindsight. But it is actually easy to just buy a quality set and hold for years. By doing that you take all of the difficulty out of it and outperform all of the short term flippers who chose the incorrect set, or times their sale poorly, or held on too long when a massive reprint hits.

That's definitely the best strategy sometimes. Always depends on the set. If something like Rebel Clash Doubles to 200, sell it. If Evolving Skies doubles to 200 keep it.

@@chriscsongor2571 I was probably doing a bad job of getting my point across, but I was talking more about the fact that people sometimes hold on for too long, and never liquidate their assets. If you just hold on to it, you might "lose", because the surplus cash could have gone on to other things. Like you said, you might not hit the correct set, but even reprints rarely make you lose money (if you have not bought in at a ridiculous price point). I myself usually buy at a price point I am comfortable with, and just keep it sealed and stored. But if I had more time to use on Pokemon, I would probably allocate some of my total budget for shorter trades. Like the 5th Anniversary Chinese box. I bought 2 at 159$ pre-order. When the product was released it shot up to 430$. So doing a mix could be the way imo. But that requires that you have the time to invest.

So I have sinned my friends. Racked up about 10k in credit debt and took out a loan at 6% to pay it off slowly. I learned form my mistake, should have learned at 2k, ya but fomo right. Am I happy with what I have... ya. Am I going to sell in 5-10 years .... ya. Do I still by the new stuff.... ya. But the difference is I learned what I want to invest into and not to over spend out of my reach. Setting limits and having a hard conversation with yourself is the key to doing better. I buy 2 booster boxes, 2 pc etbs and I get graded cards that I think look cool on my wall.

your mindset is all wrong. you're not taking in the fact of what's going on in the world. people are putting their money into collectables vs holding it in the bank or in stocks because WW3 is about to kick off so investing into pokemon or gold is going to be a safe bet. surging sparks will never be cheaper and if you think you are going to wait and sit back to load up cheap you are going to be left with empty hands. its evolving skies 2.0 but bigger
