@bricelory9534
@bricelory9534 Жыл бұрын
@@bassmelody2868 first off, while there is some impressive skills shown with Son Lux's track, we're not blown away by how hard it is to compose the music they make. We find the music interesting because even if anyone could (which I am rather certain you couldn't, nor I with some of the techniques used), it's a matter of what they chose to do. It has intriguing rhythms and textures that are unexpected but surprisingly cohesive - creating a distinct voice. I, for one, am not particularly interested in how hard something is, but rather how interesting it sounds. It could be the simplest techniques around, and that would actually make it all the more impressive that they made a unique and intriguing track with techniques that everyone knows. As for why I in particular like Son Lux: they use very interesting amounts of space and orchestration (for lack of a better word) - having a large distance between high and low voices that is open is a technique they use really effectively. All their elements come together for a cohesive and surprising song that manages to take very disparate sounding ideas and juxtapose them to capture my imagination. They are so naturally intriguing to me, I have a harder time seeing how someone wouldn't find them interesting.

Andrew is a real musicians' musician.
@commodoor6549

A real musicans' musician would be Herbie Hancock, Eddie Van Halen, Chick Corea, Wes Montgomery, Coltrane, Larry Carlton, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Gadd, Yo-Yo Ma, Miles Davis, Franz Liszt, Bill Evans, Jeff Porcaro, Michael Brecker, David Gilmore, etc. I don't like being the guy calling out the king for being naked, but these tracks are forgettable. Not to say these people don't have talent, they do. They sound good, but as Frank Zappa would say, these tracks would make great muzak. Writing for these videos seems contrived and less than inspiring, so I don't hold them completely responsible for producing these lackluster pieces, and these people probably sound better in their own environments. That said, Andrew's take is far and away the most musical of them all, with AJR's drum parts sounding very tight and usable. But cutting up these nice sounding stems and twisting them into some unrecognizable spaghetti salad, imho, isn't artistry. It's formulaic, predictable, and robs music of its heart and soul. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpqygamFd8lrf6M

@@commodoor6549 I'm not discrediting ANYONE in the list you just mentioned. Yes its a bit of a crass comment because there's no context. What I meant with a mucisians' mucisian is that, first of all he's very versatile and honestly thats just as impressive as being a god with a focus, secondly when doing these 4 producers, 1 sample episodes, he always caters his song to the group he's working with.

@@commodoor6549 You can always make a list of people or music that are better than what someone has made to prove a point that something isn't good. Value in this video doesn't just come from the music. The final outcome of these musicians working on these pieces is the conclusion of their thought processes and equipment choices and you can value that as the most important element but for me it isn't. What's important is seeing the explanation of why another musician choses the choices they make and how through which means did they achieve their idea, especially under any constraint (these tracks generally must be completed in 24 hours which is probably unchanged from the concept of the first of these videos). Also bringing together different musicians who might not have been in the same room for this purpose helps create more interesting cross-pollination in music. You might not like what they make, but I personally do. I'm still thinking about Rachel K Collier's track from the previous video in this series (4 PRODUCERS VS ARTURIA) and I'll be thinking about Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's one for a long time and I'll finally check out her discography after knowing about her for the past 5 years and putting it off. "They sound good, but as Frank Zappa would say, these tracks would make great muzak." A video breaking down how people can make great muzak works for me. If that makes me sound like someone without a soul, than I'd rather be that than talking about how a perfectly legitimate process for making music "robs music of its heart and soul". I also think it's funny that you think Kaitlyn's song is formulaic considering the fact that I've heard Stockhausen pieces more with more familar structure. I must extend my gratitude for having something nice to say about some of the pieces.

Full body chills on this first Son Lux track... AJR's song is so fun and groovy and just got me into such a good mood. Aurelia Smith's track has such a cool and unique environment. And Andrew's beat is crushing as always. The bass line is so good and that beat is so dope. This just got me so inspired. Thank you Andrew for bringing different artists together to make stuff like this happen : )
