Love your videos! They’re all so informative and easy to understand. When I found your channel I was like in awe because I haven’t found other channel that giving out all this info in detail 🤯 Could you make maybe Aalto Univ. Tour video or frequently visited places in Helsinki by student or Helsinki tour from your point of view and not only for tourists. It would be refreshing I think :D

Hey Safira! Thanks so much for the positive feedback and the great ideas. I will definitely take these under advisement. Especially the idea about a comprehensive campus tour. I actually have an older video where i show around the Aalto University School of Business. This was recorded just before the pandemic hit and the campus is totally empty in the video. However, im currently planning a full series where i would show the entire campus in multiple videos. Really looking forward to getting back to the campus later this year! Also, id love to show more around Helsinki e.g. in this type of videos. Just walking around and talking about same kind of topics while also showing around the city. Btw, i dont recall whether or not you were already a member of our Discord server. If not, i highly recommend that you consider joining. The idea of the server is to build a community of people interested in studying and working in Finland. In the server i post updates about upcoming videos and live streams and me (and other people) answer each others questions around these topics. If you are interested, you can use this link to join the server: discord.gg/W2guppc

Hey Maggie and thanks so much for the positive feedback! Im trying my best to get back to as many people as i can but its getting harder now that the channel is growing. Still trying 😂 . I filmed this video (and my normal studio videos) with a Canon EOS R with a Canon RF 15-35mm 2.8 lens. Also using a Rode Videomic Pro. Absolutely overkill for this kind of content and also a bit too big and hefty for filming outdoors so im trying to find something smaller with almost as good image quality.

I think everyone has a different threshold to how much they could handle. For me there was no way I could do a full load and work. A lot of nights I was up until 11;00, 12:00 sometimes 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. Like when I was going to get my Business Degree the school said if I registered as a Full Time Student which is between 4-7 courses I would get money off compared to a Part Time Student which is between 1-3 courses. However, I did try and get a job during summer but didn’t get hired so I got certifications instead like CPR, Safe Food Handling, and SMART Serve ( Safe Distribution of Alcohol in Ontario). Also, I did some volunteer work for the school during normal semester.

Oh you are 100% correct and i agree with you totally. Everyone has their limits and i wish that everyone would try to keep to these limits because burning out when working and studying at the same time is definitely a risk (having gone through that myself). This is why its kinda twisted in terms of how much emphasis employers put on work experience with soon-to-be, and recent graduates. On the other hand i dont want people to burn out but then again, i know how much work experience matters when it comes to job hunting after school. Also, i love what you did when you did not find a job for the summer. Its really cool that you decided to pursue other educational opportunities, especially those being official certifications that you could actually use to find a job. A really, really great idea!

@@RoadtoFinnish Thanks. I have been going to school on and off for 11 and half years and in a small town it’s hard to find work. Also, in my late teens and 20’s it was easy to go on 4 hours sleep now in my 30’s I really notice! I have had a few burnouts from overworking myself. Last Fall I had a bad anxiety attack that wouldn’t stop so I had leave and come back. I think once I have my Certificate in Digital Marketing. I am going to start taking a reduced load. The good news is after getting those certificates my brother was able to get a job bad news none called me. CPR and Safe Food Handling are good for 3 years. Mine are expired but I am not renewing them until next summer because it’s just wasting money because of the situation. SMART Serve is supposed to be good forever but they recommend you refresh the training if you work in a bar. It’s still good to have because restaurants and stores that carry alcohol like people to have it.

However, I find more nowadays compared to when I started Mainstream College back in 2012 that colleges are more willing to allow students to do Part Time, Online, or Reduced Studies.
@RoadtoFinnish

Oh definitely yes. Also, the job market back in 2012 had not yet fully recovered from the 2008 crisis so its actually much easier to find jobs now that the market is (still) booming.

Also, I would like to add that if you come from a country where the , let's say, "effort per hour" is not as well paid as in Finland, it's better to earn money from a finnish job than to use some of your savings (which required more effort to obtain in your home country). Long story short: Finnish sallaries are probably better than in your home-country.
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a very interesting point - hadnt thought about this from this perspective before. Thats actually very true in many cases. Salaries in Finland give you much more net purchasing power compared to many other countries. And while we dont have the same level of salaries compared to e.g. the US or UK, it should also be noted that the net capital that you are left with after basic needs like healthcare, education, transport, rent etc.. is pretty much the same if not higher in Finland. Its all about the differences in how e.g. public vs private healthcare systems work and how much you need to pay out of pocket.

@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ramil and thanks so much for the feedback! Ill definitely start working more on these kinds of vlog style videos. They require much more work than the ones ive done in the studio but i hope these vlogs are more interesting for you as im also able to show you around Finland while talking about the same topics as before. To your question, its naturally always dependent on your field but as a general rule of thumb, no, its not easier to find a job during your studies compared to after graduation. However, its not actually this simple because many jobs - especially summer jobs and internships - are mostly for students and you usually dont apply for these after graduation. So while jobs that students are after are quite competitive, they are also super important for your career after graduation. Its hard work to find a job during school, but getting that work experience during your studies will definitely pay the work back because it makes your career development after graduation way easier and faster.

Hi Oliver, If you are an international student in Finland (not from EU country) so you are not European, do you think you can go and apply to Erasmus program to study one semester or more in a EU country? Thanks
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 жыл бұрын
This is a great question! If you are referring to an erasmus exchange programme that would be a part of your degree in Finland, yes, you can absolutely apply for an exchange period as a part of your degree. However, please note that whether or not this is possible in your specific study programme will depend on the school and programme. So i recommend that you check out the curriculum for your programme + the exchange study page from your university. These should give you a definite answer to this question.

related to aalto , scholarships for internationals, .. I couldn't find the information about required credits per term to make you eligible / considerable for a scholarship, I m thinking about quantum tech , and it says "The scholarship decisions are made based on academic evaluation of the applicants selected to the study programmes. Applications are evaluated in the programmes according to the predefined academic evaluation criteria (available on the programmes’ website). "" I couldn't find any link that forwards to a page shows criteria for type B and type A scholarships , can you help ?
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 жыл бұрын
Hey and thanks for the great question. So the scholarships for Aalto University (specifically types A and B) are not dependent on your credits earned at Aalto. Instead, these scholarships are granted to the best applicants when the university admissions are decided on. So if you want to apply for the A or B type scholarships, you need to apply for those when you fill in the university application form. I have a previous video that explains these in a lot of detail. Please note that this is an old video and some of the details have already changed, but the application process for the scholarships has nevertheless stayed the same: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmiboauopt2Gm80

@@MrAlpino3 i actually cant comment on the exact SAT scores because the minimum scores that you would need in order to get a scholarship are actually not public. So cant say for sure but you definitely need to do well in your application.

@@RoadtoFinnish I just finished watching your video about scholarships , you ve said " downside of the aaltp university scholarship program is that it you can only apply for it with the same application form that you use to apply to your degree program " I m gonna apply for several programmes in january 2022 with joint application. What do I need exactly to know for not missing it. Will there be several and separate pages I should be looking for ? I ve just never done it before.
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrAlpino3 Thats a great question. So there are a few things that you need to do: 1. Make a list of the different scholarships that each of the schools that you apply to offer (in case you use the joint application to apply to programmes taught at different schools) 2. Mark down HOW and WHEN you are required to apply to each scholarship and pay especially close attention to those scholarships that you need to apply for using the SAME application form (basically the joint application form) that you use to apply to the school. 3. When you fill in the joint application form, make sure that you have filled the required information and/or checked the correct box when the form asks you whether or not you want to apply for those particular scholarships that need to be applied for using the form. I have an example of this in this step-by-step tutorial of the SEPARATE application. Even while this video is about the separate application, the joint application form is pretty similar. The information that you need to fill in is where the biggest difference is. Heres the tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXrOaneLndqmoq8

Maybe I misunderstand. I thought that as a resident on a Student visa, someone was not legally allowed to work. Is this not the case?
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Corey and thanks so much for the great question. Im sure there has been a slight misunderstanding here but thats okay 👍. You are in fact allowed to work in Finland while residing here with a student visa. European Union and European Economic Area citizens are allowed to work without any restrictions but people who come from outside EU or EEA are allowed to work 25 hours per week on average during the academic terms. This average is calculated as an average over each semester (autumn semester being between august and new years and spring semester being held between january and june). In addition, people from outside EU and EEA are allowed to work without any limitations when the university is on break. This means during the Christmas and summer holidays. I have a pretty comprehensive video about this topic that you can check right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnaUqXh-ltOLiJY It gives you the same information but with more detail. You can also read the rules from the website of the Finnish immigration service right here: migri.fi/en/studying-in-finland I hope this answered your question.

Hey and thanks so much for the suggestion. The subtitles system in KZbin does not make this too easy and its a lot of manual work for me to add subtitles on other languages than in English. Ill try to check this out for future videos but i wont most likely be able to add them to old videos. It would simply take too much time to do manually.
