The combined pipe bands and Balaclava Company, the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (5 Scots) gather to welcome the 100 year old Chieftain, Captain Alwyne Farquharson of Invercauld M.C. for the official opening of the 2019 Ballater Highland Games in Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
The bands play the tune 'Invercauld House' as the Chieftain is led through the guard of honour by the bannerman Jim Payne and Invercauld Highlanders, Randy Finlay and Gary Humphries, followed by members of Captain Farquharson's family and Clan Farquharson.
After his arrival, the Highlanders 4 Scots Pipes & Drums march on to perform "Leal and Siccar" (Loyal and Certain) a tune composed by Peter Grant, now Pipe Major of The Highlanders - 4 SCOTS Pipes and Drums, to mark this special occasion.
The bands were Ballater & District Pipe Band and the Lonach Pipe Band, led by honorary leding Drum Major Ian Esson, together with honorary Drum Majors Fiona Glennie, Robb Cumming and Bert Summers, with guest Drum Majors Derek Dean, Brian Jamieson and Rob Brownfield.

Yes it is loss and perhaps to gain a new identity to remove all semblance of the monarchy from the US. Canada held onto its relationship with the UK and so we hold onto some of the traditions. Also though, we take pride in our heritage and for the most part we have retained our strong connection. This is not the case with all countries.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney 3 жыл бұрын
Our identity as the US, is to be our own people, free from the tyranny and oppression that drove our forefathers here. That being said, I agree that so much was lost in the process. An effort to hold on to your heritage is seen as being anti-american. Many folks around here feel if you want to retain your heritage...go back to that country. As for the native people of the land, their identity is also wiped out. Your identity is to be "an American" whatever that happens to mean at that point in time. It's so sad. We should be willing to accept and embrace that different people have rich cultures and heritages that should be honored, not feared. My deepest respect for the Scots and keeping it alive and well.

@MandyJMaddison
@MandyJMaddison 3 жыл бұрын
Mohawk HMS, The flag shows the heraldic Arms of Ballater. They are based on the coat of arms of the Farquharson family of which the old gentleman, Alwyne Farquherson is the traditional Chieftain. The tree is a Fir Tree, a type of pine tree found in Scotland, and which grows on the hillsides of Craigendarroch and Craig Collich which surround the ground where the Highland Games are held. There are also on the flag, two lions, symbol of the MacDuffs, and on the bottom left, the Key of Saint Nathalan, and the Holy Well of Pannanich. A coat of arms was originally a cloth coat that a knight in armour would wear over his metal armour, so that he could be identified. The same pattern would appear on his shield. The coat of arms became closely associated with the knight's family, and the same pattern could be used for years, with changes and additions. Once soldiers no longer wore armour, the right to have a coat of arms could still be awarded to a person who was made a Knight by the reigning monarch, or occupied some other significant position. Nowadays the cloth Coat of Arms has disappeared, and you only see the Arms on flags and symbolic shields.

With what patient dignity this couple tolerated those so impudently trying to bathe in the light of their presence... Hopefully the "dignitaries" made sure - or will make sure - they present the celebrated with a good, clean recording of the Event, re-cut to show only the bands, the awed spectators and guests, and the pair themselves, without the award shenanigans, so they can enjoy it with no one dragging them yon and hither!

I always loved your music I went on to play it on fiddle in my fifties.
