1. Breathing exercise (30 deep breaths). 2. Expose your body to cold water for at least 2 minutes. 3. Sprint/exhaust yourself physically. 4. Hug somebody (a long hug).

As a nurse for over 20 years, I totally related to the hug strategy. I have hugged so many family members in distress over the years, and I really do feel that transfer of energy. So many people have commented on the power of my hugs to comfort them. It has truly become my super power!

YES- I agree 💯% !! Occupational therapist + Professional Organizer here! I can relate to that 'transfer of energy'! So therapeutic, and calms / 'resets' the nervous system. ❤

My parents are my primary source of anxiety. It's been like that a lot during my life. They are in their 80s now and did not plan very well for extreme old age. Dad has dementia and Mom is fragile in body and health. They live out in the country on several acres of land that they can't keep up with now and have no money to hire help. It's like they didn't think it would happen and never thought about the price of things going up. To top it off, they have an extremely dysfunctional marriage and always have had. My sister and I will have to step in and help at some point but I'm mainly angry at them for putting us in this position. We live 100 miles away from them. We can't move there and they can't afford to move where we are. I just turned 60 and need to really focus on preparing for my own aging process and finances and I'm afraid they're going to derail what I need to be doing to take care of myself so I don't end up the same way.

Anxiety is an excess of thinking about the future and depression is an excess of thinking about the past. The cure to all of it is living in the here and now as.much as possible.

Taking care of the body and making sure that your health comes first is a priority. I really enjoyed this episode and found this really helpful. Thankyou and I thought that the cold shower is a great start to minimising anxiety.

Sometimes is really hard to pinpoint the triggers of anxiety - panic attacks do come all of a sudden sometimes for me and i can never figured out the trigger. But i appreciate these tips such as the Wim hof breathing - Caring for our body / these are important tools to regulate the body. I've been an anxiety sufferer for years till my anxiety became chronic through chest tightness- anxiety is crippling / exhausting and it needs constant self care - routine to be able to thrive through it.

What the stoics called "premeditatum malorum" helps me fight anxiety. Basically is diving deep in what would be the outcome of a potential bad situation that worries you. Acknowledging that it may happen and picturing how you will be at the other side of it. Funny enough it helps see that things can be bad, but would not be THAT TERRIBLE. For example, being fired. If you just think about "I can be fired next week" it scares the s out of you. If you picture yourself leaving after being fire, what would you do, who would you approach for another job oportunity... It helps to take the edge out of the terror, and helps setting a plan in place.

Anxiety is not necessarily meaning that something is wrong. It could be childhood trauma that was wrong and instilled that you were in danger. As an adult, you aren't. It is not your responsibility to keep homeostasis or protect everyone so you feel safe. Anxiety could be like "im gonna do this wrong, im going to fail" cuz someone somewhere told you that you couldnt or wasnt good enough or smart enough etc. The narrative can be changed.

Mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings (or bunch of other sources) can cause anxiety, narcissist in your life can cause anxiety, trauma can cause anxiety, insomnia can cause anxiety (and vise-versa), surviving a war can cause anxiety, learning you have a bad disease like cancer and so much more 😔 I hope autophagy or things like Wim Hof Method can make it permanently better.

I love Wim Hof breathing and Cold shower. I don't think it lasts all day. I work in high stress job in the hospital. I have childhood trauma. My triggers are getting better with inner child work. I am learning to reparent myself. There are free 12 step programs such as ACA that teaches this as well as self help books. You can work with a therapist.

I have had the most loving, supportive parents and even older sisters… still I have suffered with extreme anxiety episodes since I was 9 years old including passing out. My personal triggers are very different than the points you have made. It’s more my mind with unnecessary fear taking over: hospitals, detailed medical explanations, sometimes hot rooms or buildings. Mind becomes upset, forgetting to breath. It’s awful. Years later now I am better, but have to acknowledge and work through it. Sad I think my older daughter has a touch of my anxiety 😢

learn to self-regulate your nervous system towards safety and healing so that it alerts us properly and not chronically (our ANS can get stuck in a state of fight flight and freeze (fawn) through reinforced messages by self talk, behavior, reactions, etc - see "TEB cycle"): 1. breathing exercise, like slow deep breathing or Wim Hof method 2. cold water/ice (cold is anti-inflammatory) 3. Sprinting (when our body feels afraid it can produce adrenaline and running can help slough off that extra energy 4. Hug/soothing touch

Yup i feel the same, when we are up, all is good, SOMETHING has to come up and fk stuff up for no reason. Only reason I can come up with is to tell us that keep your expectations at bay., SMH it kills me sometimes. Put money away, a good chunk, oh this broke, well all thats gone. oh paid off the CC, oh something came up gotta use it cause its an emergency. WHY does this universe do that!
