Jonathan, you are absolutely phenomenal! You are light years by far the best teacher on here. Your teaching style is out of this world, that even my 4-year-old nephew can understand it. Your explanations and examples are incredibly clear and helpful. Thank you so much for this video - we absolutely adore you! ❤❤🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

You have helped me so much! I’ve recently become a violin teacher and all your tips have been a tremendous help. Do you have any tips regarding the right hand thumb? That’s one thing where I still struggle with nearly all my students. They can’t find a comfortable spot on the bow and they keep straightening it. Even if I tell them exactly where and how to put it, they still struggle with it. So I must not have the right exercises for it..

Thanks so much for your kind words! I remember being in your situation 9 years ago and wishing there was a place to learn specifically about teaching! That's when I knew I had to start a channel. Regarding the right hand thumb - here are my thoughts. Nothing unfamiliar is comfortable so until they have done it correctly for some time, it may feel uncomfortable for them. The thumb and 4th finger are very much related. Both tend to lock at the same time, so make sure you don't try to fix one without the other. If the thumb is too far under the bow (poking through) it will always lock. Focus on putting the thumb right on the fingertip - this requires short nails! Make sure the rest of the fingers aren't too high up the bow - I aim for the 2nd finger and thumb to be opposite. Doing my 6 finger flexibility exercises should help a lot. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYWXhmucf9OHirs Don't worry about what it looks like at the tip. Get it right at the heel. That's when you need it. Exercise: Try starting correctly at the heel, then doing half a bow and back. Pause, check, adjust, repeat. Progress to going all the way to the tip and back. Continue until the student can self correct (if needed) at the heel. Then progress to checking every few bows. Then add to a scale. etc. Good luck! what chinrest are you using
@jtannernzАй бұрын
Unfortunately I haven't been able to identify this exact chinrest and it seems that they are all slightly different even if they go by the same name. I love this chinrest and so do a lot of my students but i haven't been able to source any. Try searching for 'Zitsman'.
