It's amazing that Chia and Soh can stand like this leaning far forward against the world best. Because it means hitting the shuttle earlier, so their reactions need to be even quicker!

great video. if you look at zach @0:40, you'll see he is hitting the shuttle close to his body. if you look at greg @2:10, he is striking early and far from his body. the arm action is supination (like backhand-- reverse of pronation). there is not enough space to do that close to your body. so i would add to the pointers here, when lifting strike early and as far in front of your body as possible to maximize power from supination. i very much like jen's point @2.34, where she talks about when you are under pressure from the net, you have to try to make the net player move, dont get hypnotized into hitting right back to them. i would also add that you may need to move back when under pressure to give yourself time to reduce the pressure, but you also need to be able to move forward smoothly to take advantage of any weakness in the reply and regain control

Another great video Greg and Jenny. Thank you!! I watched the World Championships live and it was my first time watching international players from such close up. I noticed one thing that many doubles players were doing (especially during the CHOI/SEO (KOR) vs. LEE/WANG (TPE) match). While doing defense they keep their grips relaxed and constantly shake their racquet which gives them the momentum while defending. This is unlike if you have to generate the swing from a static position. This i feel is similar to the split step jump we take to get into momentum when moving for a shot. What do you think?
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! That’s amazing, hope you enjoyed it 😀 yes a lot of players do! It’s more of a readiness preparation thing yes. All of these guys are very strong so even if they are on their backswing of this small shake they still have enough power to go forward!

You guys, together with Gill Clark, help us improve not just our badminton, but also in getting our badminton terms right (in English). :) That's coming from a non-native English speaker and badminton club player living in an English speaking country (straya - down under). Getting the badminton terms right (in English) helps a lot when communicating with coaches, friends, and tournament partners. No wonder even Zheng Si Wei and He Bing Jao watch your YT content... they're useful for everyone! :D

Great video Greg and Jenny, unlucky in the last tournament I watched you guys live on the bwf channel. Can you do a video about injuries and recovering from them? I'm 5 weeks into recovery/rehab for a grade 2 sprained ankle and I see too many players having recurring injuries because they won't rest for long enough (this is my first real injury in 6 years so finger crossed there's no more). Any tips or techniques you've picked up for speeding recovery and rehabilitation would be great as well.

One other thing i would add is looking to move your (as in, the defending player) base position forwards in the court when you can, to allow you to drive the shuttle back flatter and help turn defence into attack, or to at least neutralise an attack. If you watch players like Endo and Watanabe they are often really high up the court when defending and are really good at returning the shuttle quite flat or changing the angle of the defence to half-drive it across court. Chris Langridge was a really good example of this too and his base position was almost exaggerated in how far forwards he would stand in court but you would say his ability to turn defence into attack, or to block to the net and move forwards was right up there with the best in the world Admittedly you wont always be able to drive the shuttle back, and you have to select to do it at the right moment otherwise you can put yourself under more pressure, but once you start to get the hang of it, it can be such a good weapon to counteract a smash. Just my 2 pence worth

Hi, I really enjoy your training videos, but I noticed that there is almost no information online that clearly and precisely explains how to choose the right grip, how to measure it, what are the different measuring techniques, because I think this is one of the most important components for productive play. It would be great fun if you could show how professionals hold the racquets, what are the gaps between the fingers, what should you pay attention to before buying a racquet with different grips, etc. Thank you :)

I supposed the constant shuffling of the feet not only put you in a better position faster, but also the snap-reflex action at the heels and ankles that help generate more power in your returns. It's not just arm power after all.

1:49 for tapdowns, when the player on the defensive makes really good shots close to the shot and the offensive player is no longer able to hit it in a downwards direction and plays a push/lift, does the offensive player change to defense and vice versa? I do drive practice with my partner which seems similar to the tap down however, we end hitting really close to the hit and when the offensive player cant hit it down they hit it high and it gets killed.. basically should the defense player be hitting good quality shots that are close to the net and hard to kill? or should they hit it up on purpose to put themselves under pressure?
