Here’s a couple more I picked up: 1. If someone is driving baseline on you then make sure your body is straddling the baseline. If they go through you it’s a charge, or they’ll back out and have to reset. 2. Always guide the the dribbler towards the help or the out of bounds line. The outbound line is also a defender, use it. 3. Always be moving, the easiest person to defend is the guy that is just standing around. Stay Focused!

#3 is great against a lot of people, but most times when you go to the other side of the body they'll just protect the basket and use the opposite hand to finish. In this case, the guy laying up the ball will just switch the ball to his left and draw a foul.

Number 3 is something everyone should be taught. You block so many shots that way and forces them to stop being so carefree causing them to either tire themselves more or miss more shots
@josesanta414
@josesanta414 Жыл бұрын
It might work once or twice but generally creating contact and not opening up the lane is the better defense. Against bad players number 3 might work well but as soon as you get to a higher level youll get embarrassed. There are so many counters. Mid layup pump fake, off-foot, front rim, reverse. If he switches behind me believe that i will slow down on my last step and keep him there for an extended layup.

As a player that's always focused on defense myself here's how the offense might counter these moves. 1) they just won't be idiotic and actually ready for the next play and make a strong pass away from the defense of wait for you to clear out (I don't really try to get that steal or many at all, I'm a big) 2) They'll stumble back if you begin to make too much contact and will get a foul call a lot even when you shouldn't get one, just have to be aware of it. The other way they'll counteract is hesitation if they are a good ball handler 3) Pretty simple shot fake or a reverse layup as you are changing sides, it's a high risk high reward play you are trying to make (I prefer to stay in-between them and the rim and block it slightly after they release) 4) if they are a bad passer then there isn't much counterplay they'll try other than picking up the ball, which is a positive for you anyways, just don't try this against a good passer because you might have just given up a layup
@jway2fye
@jway2fye 11 ай бұрын
A thing I picked up from Marcus Smart, if your guarding the ball handler, don’t go for the steal at random points, watch the ball, and when you see the ball start to go down, reach, high chance you could get it

#4- Bigs are taught to check the middle first. 90% of the court is in the middle. That one is gonna get you beat in games Forcing baseline- you should be one area length away and the other hand should be on the hip. I’m spinning on you every time, not switching hands. Good ‘tricks’ but we don’t teach these in D1 or the over seas players. Get In proper position and use your body. No reaching or flying over the back side for a block. Love your videos :)
