Regarding the Lego Speed Champions. The first few models were 6 studs wide, all the ones on the forza expansion are those ones. But then Lego changed it to 8 studs wide to add in more details and generally make them look better. So now all the Speed Champions models are 8 studs wide. Then there's Lego Technic models, those are more about the insides rather than the outside look. Those have the small scale (usually pullback and around the size of Speed Champions but a tad bigger), then the medium modes (like that Bolide one you showed) more detail and the insides are better (diff, engine, etc). Then the big Technic models (such as the Chiron, Ferrari Daytona, etc) those are full on detail in the inside, working engine, gear selector, differential, etc. Also hella expensive. Then there's Lego Creator, no working inside like Technic but focus on the outside, most with openable features and detailed engine bays and interiors, smaller than the big Technic sets but bigger than the medium ones. Although not done as much since the Creator lineup is more than just vroom vroom machines. That's about all i know about Legos despite not owning a single set, hope it helps :D

I buy Lego cars based on the "pieces to stickers ratio", (The Lego Ideas Caterham with no stickers is by far my favourite.) so Speed Campions is out of the question here. One of the guys replaced the lights with a light bar and got it off road ready. He even got bronze decals put on it (not PD markings) because he liked how it looked. A police car came through, and it had a fire truck not to far behind, lights and sirens blaring, and some idiot in a pickup pulled into the left turn lane it was going to use to get through. This meant the fire truck had to hit the brakes and almosr curb check the wheels trying to weave around him. Then after that, he merged right back onto the lane he came from. Thats just one story from that intersection.

on the subject of legos There is no consistent scale for the lego cars. The speed champions were originally 6 studs wide, the new ones are now 8 studs wide. The technic ones are all over the place since you mentioned minifig scale, there's kinda two different minifig scales. One going off of the fig's height, the other off of their width. A lot of them settle on 1:40 for minifig scale, but that's an unofficial standard that the lego company has never bothered to follow. The speed champions aren't really built to a set price most of the time, and the scale between them is somewhat irrelevant to the designers. They are great fun to build and decent to display, so long as you're willing to overlook the downsides that come with them, inconsistent scale being one of the biggest downsides.

the most common lego speed champion scale is minifigure scale which is usually 1:40-1:45 (the minifigs aren't perfect to human proportions). but an easy way to tell is look to seven studs wide on the hood (eight studs counting fenderrs and tyres). ie the cars in the picture @10:02. the lego technic cars are a little differentthere are 1:8 scale lambo sian bugatti chiron gt3 rs Ferrari 458 1:12-16(its not that clear buts its one or the other) not all but mclaren senna gt3 lambroghin technica ford gt these usually have some play features like being able to steer them and have 'engines' in the back I do belive there are a few other models that might be in weird one-off scales but those are the main ones

That first prank would be hilarious if my dad and I pulled it since I look like a younger version of him. The time warp aspect of it alone would make me laugh. Not only is would the opponent racer be confused at how I managed to get ahead, but then my dad having the grey in his beard would give the illusion of so much time passing that there must have been a glitch in the matrix.

Minifig scale is literally the vaguest thing because you have sets like the marvel iron monger that pushes 1:18 and then you have sets like the millennium falcon that go closer to 1:50-1:70 depending on which one it is. I believe actual minifigs are 1:30something for height and 1:40something for width. Been a moment since i checked.

The one I'm surprised didn't land here, given all the ancillary pieces, R/C!! It's the best of all the worlds, IMHO. You can build for display and function. You can actually drive and physically engage with them and not have to make "vroom, vroom" noises, lol. You can pick a set scale and go to town! The modification world in R/C is only rivaled by the aftermarket modification industry of actual, full scale cars. In short, might be worth contemplating as an ancillary hobby for a car enthusiast such as yourself. I loved building my 1st TT-02 from the ground up (got the 2016 Subaru WRX STi Nurburgring Edition to pair with my 2015 STi). It's like building a model mixed with an erector set that has receivers, servos, and electric motors, lol. All in for the 1st kit with batteries and the controller was around $400ish. So, not a terribly expensive hobby, but it certainly can get there 😬.

Our tech-service shop spent years running V8 auction-cruisers as delivery vehicles or to perform onsite work. The all-black R/T Charger with light, bumper, and a clean roof was the WORST. So the Crown Vics could at least slow-cruise and ride like a boat, right? But having a limiter-deleted Charger that could do 170 and corner impressively was immediately ruined by the way ALL traffic drops to 5-below. In the end, you are in a stiff, rough, drive-angry kind of car with awful visibility, and the state of the traffic around you only exacerbates that and causes you constantly feel as frustrated as the Charger looks. Just my experience, but even in my careless pedal-happy early 20s I would pick the plush police-Victoria over the Charger, even if they were already being phased out completely and weren't as believable

My parents have a retired police Crown Vic, it's a CNG cruiser too, so I'm unsure which department had it first, as none of the local departments where they bought it use CNG. Anyhow, they took it from here in Southern Utah up to Southwest Wyoming, and I guess at some point recently, at least one of the law enforcement agencies there had Crown Vics. My guess is the Sheriff department, as they've got the oldest line of cars and the Highway Patrol have had chargers as long as I've known, while city police stick to SUVs and Trucks. Never seen a sedan cruiser with the city police. Now a little info on the Vic, it's white, with the spotlight, and still has the frame reinforcements, but no brush guard or roof rack. People stop all the time at lights or at gas stations or grocery stores to tell them that either my parents are assholes for driving a cop car around and scaring people or that it's funny they drive it because it scares people that have a reason to be scared. I think it's funny all around. People there mostly just drive like assholes regardless of cops though so it doesn't seem to change drive patterns too much when they take it out. Someone will still cut them off or ride their bumper because that's just "normal driving" around there. Shout out to folks in Rock Springs, y'all drive like asshats. The best part is they actually have the police horn still. Not the siren, but that annoying ass horn seemingly all cop cars have. When my dad drives, if someone cuts him off, he honks that horn and they either move or speed up, and when my mom drives, if someone cuts her off, she drops back 2-3 car lengths, tails them, and occasionally fidgets with the stereo deck (Dual touchscreen stereo deck, screen is huge and folds out of the deck at the push of a button, and it's bright so it shows against the seats especially at night.) She'll follow them for up to 3 miles just to mentally fuck with them. Occasionally, she'll honk the horn a couple times, which will make some of them pull over, then just go around them lmao. At the moment the car is down, they can't figure what it is. Starts and runs for about 3 minutes then dies. Mom is in an awful hurry to fix it though, she likes fuckin with bad drivers.

In Austria/ Germany a dude bought a retired police car, wrapped it to look insanely similar to a real cop and wrote "pozilei" on it, a slightly wrong word for "Polizei" which is the German word for police. And he deliberately parks next to cops regularly. That dude is amazing 😂😂

I have a retired Crown Vic Police Interceptor with the push bar and dual spot lights (no lights or decals). People occasionally get out of the way on the freeway and I get the occasional look but that's it. It's only good to be a reliable daily driver that can be used for long road trips.

Not a charger but I had a Taurus interceptor as a daily. It was great tbh. Nobody gives you grief and even cops mistook it for an active unit at times lol. But it genuinely was a great daily. Decent on gas and awd was great for winter

As an artist, spending 300 bucks on a quality high detail sculpt of a car is NOT even that much money when you consider how much work goes into one. Thing is, someone needs to make a mould for the model, and then either hand paint the details (insanely expensive ones usually like 1k plus for a full hand painted one) or set up an assembly that paints them and make sure that the details are all matching up, which means having QC to check for bad pieces that youll lose money on coz you cant sell those. People forget how much effort these things require to be done well, we have been spoiled by Matchbox and Hot Wheels for affordable models but actual accurate and detailed ones are like crazy expensive.

9:36 I collect Lego cars myself and here is a little explanation of the scales: ALL Lego speed champions cars are the same scale. I think it’s 1:24 but if not, they are at least the same scale. So if you just get speed champion cars you should be fine. At the Lego technic cars it’s different tho. There are 2 scales for them. I don’t know what exact scale they are, but one scale is smaller so cheaper than the other one. You can see if you have the right scale by just looking at the price. The smaller ones are about $60 and the big ones are about $400. Hope this helps!

Can confirm my retired Vic without a roof rack can fool people. I was entering the highway one day and a mustang passed me right as I was getting on at what must have been almost double the speed limit. Guy immediately pulled to the shoulder and stopped and I just waved as I went past. Owning an old cop car is its own entertainment. 😂

Speaking as someone driving a retired cop car for over a year now. Yes a lot of drivers seemingly improve their driving skill when I'm driving my car vs my girlfriends which is also a panther car, it also makes you more subconsciously aware of drivers too. But GAH DAM when I'm running late for ANYTHING I'll end up usually going 5-10km/h under the limit 😂 We don't get started on the sisters fusion I almost got t-boned by 3 stop sign runners in a single stretch of road... I'll stick with my P7B 👍

Coming from a long time lego enthusiast, I can tell you that the lego speed champions sets used to be 6 studs wide but they went to 8 studs wide a few years ago. Im not sure what scales they are but the scales are alittle bit disproportionate even amongst themselves. For example: I own all 3 fast and furious sets 2 of which are both speed champions sets, one being doms charger and the other being brians skyline. Both cars are 8 studs wide and are the same size meanwhile irl a 70 charger is way bigger than any skyline. Lego also has multiple themes that have detailed cars such as speed champions, technic, and creator which all have various scales as well. There are small $40 technic sets like the jeep wrangler and they are $350 huge sets like the buggatti. The point im making here is that the lego designers dont really care about scale themselves and focus more on different price points.

Drive a 2022 Ford Police interceptor utility I bought for 17.4k. In local driving people do follow the speed limit. But they do make way for you so they’re not in front of a cop car. In highway driving, the difference isn’t very noticeable. People kinda do their own thing. But one thing is that I’ve never got cut off or tailgated when driving the thing around SoCal

The roof rack is a dead giveaway, even on undercover explorers. I own an explorer, one of the best suvs in the game, but I agree, it's annoying. The cop explorers will almost always have slick tops, with no roof racks, not plastic roof rack rails, just the roof.

I meassured around on my Lego Lamborgine Countach and its about a 1:28 scale. The new ones try to be to scale but the older ones are not. For example the McLaren P1 (one of the first released) has a single middle seat, the Countach has 2. Because of this the P1 scaled up would be ~50cm(almost 2 ft) thinner.

I don't have an ex-police charger, but I do have an ex-police crown vic. This may or may not be better or worse depending on your location and if your police department still uses vics in service. In NYC, I feel that a lot of people drive safer around me until they peek through my window and realize I am not a cop. (I really should tint those windows)

I drive a retired police car in the Rockies. I got it for the V8 and AWD transmission. It can tow others it of ditches, get through the worst storms in Colorado, and is a beast in the summer. Plus I got it for $16500 and have a car I've been able to learn how to repair. I tried making it look less like a cruiser by putting my college bumper decals on it and so what...all i have is a spotlight but people slow way way down...street parking the thing makes it so much goofier with traffic. Ive tried motioning people to pass me but it doesbt work all the time. People will notice you, some people have actually paid more attention to me than the road. One lady nearly clipped me because she was driving over the line checking the car.

I have a 1996 9c1 Chevy Caprice that's mint. People still think it's in service and drive cautious but most Florida drivers don't care. It doesn't matter as long as it's a clean new looking car of any year , 50% of people on the road think it's still a service vehicle. My oldest was an 88 LTD Ford crown Vic police and people moved over for it. All clean unmarked cars.

coming from someone whos main hobby is Lego. there are a few different "scales" you can go with. My personal reccomendation would be Speed champions, those are minifigure scale and are almost the exact same size all around, id just stick with 2019+ sets because thats when they made them wider from 6 studs -> 8 studs. They are way cheaper at 20-45$ depending on if you get a single or double pack. Second route would be the 50$ Technic cars, some are pull backs, others are not, and the ones that arent usually have a mini engine and steering. I wouldn't really recomend these ones just because they dont look that great and the options are limited. Third option are the 1:8 scale technic cars. only 5 have ever been made and MSRP is around 450$, they come out with one every two years starting in 2016 with the GT3RS (which is retired and goes for 1k+). they should be coming out with another one of those this year. But they have fully built transmissions with gear selectors and paddle shifters, steering, full suspension, and lots more. And lego Technic does offer some other car models but those are very inconsistant.
