Talking about sexual fantasies, at which point a fantasy is just a fantasy? For example, some straight people (both men and women) might have same sex sexual fantasies, and that doesn't mean they are gay or lesbian. Having certain fantasies does not change who you are. So taking that into consideration, if someone has certain fantasies (like incest, zoophilia or even pedophile fantasies) and never tries to make them real and under control, should this person check psychological advice, or can we still say "they are just fantasies"? Well, you're trying to sample what a population of lets say the USA (~330 Million) thinks is taboo based on 4000 people. Or around 82.5k times smaller than the actual population size. For a sample, this is ... kinda tiny. Thats like me taking a sample of what my hometown (30k Inhabitants) think about a topic based on a sample size of: 2 people. Both Sample sizes are compared to the overall population, extremely tiny, especially for a broad topic like this. Though, the 30k to 2 Sample is only 15k times smaller. Meaning it somehow is more accurate. I think a "decent" sample size should either be 25k to 1 or 250 (peeps) whatever is larger in the end result of folks asked compared to the statistics target populance. But thats just me, and thats an ideal world. 4k people is still really small for such a topic. I'd wager 10k or even 15k would give a more accurate result.

I think there is a bit of a divide here on what should be called sexual taboo vs. a kink. These are more social norms and viewed as kinky (maybe not the multiple partners as much). Taboo means they are socially ostracized bc they are considered too much of something. R*pe, scat, bodily fluids, torture, cuckolding, humiliation/cruelty, incest, etc are what is taboo. Keep in mind that alot of people were also raised in the time before the internet blew up. Back then, some of this stuff WAS considered taboo because your family wouldn't approve of it if they knew, it violates some religious values, and easy constant access to internet p*rn hadn't desensitized an entire generation to it yet. So there was still a whole lot of social shame around these topics in these people's early years and they're still just young enough to still be looking for relationships. Also, even some people in the newer generations were raised by people whose actions imply this kind of stuff is wrong but they go on the internet and everyone says "nah, this is fine" and they end up conflicted on how they should see their urges and the consequences of each side (missing out vs being "degenerate" by the standards you were raised on).

Mainstream media has sex scenes that are more about the shock, and are more likely to show the sex when they are cheating on their partner than when they simply do it with their partner. It is to the point that you are more likely to see "it is sexy because it is shameful" than someone actually shaming sexual behavior. Of course one effect is people think BDSM is better than vanilla sex, and BDSM usually means something that involves that taboo = sexy. Though there are clearly also some negative affects, a lot of hypocrisy around sex, blaming the victim of sexual assault, a lot of people who think "No" can mean "Yes".
