If they want to, they'll open up... If they don't, you should respect their choice... If you want people to open up to you, you have to be kind, respectful, honest and just generally a nice person to make them trust you! No matter how many tricks you perform, if you're not trustworthy it's not going to happen!

As someone with social anxiety and socially awkward, this is what I need because I really need to work on my conversation skills. I don’t even know what to talk about most of the time, and always having those awkward silences, making us feel uncomfortable. I look at other people who are great conversationalists and they’re so comfortable in their own skin making it look as if they’re good friends with everyone they meet.

Talking about books is also a great way to start conversations. When talking about books, you should summarise the topic the book is about and then let the other person ask questions.

I spent a decade googling "how to small talk" every morning before work because I have a job where I meet new people every day. I still google it sometimes.... But also, I'm more comfortable with my silence now. I'm an introvert and that's ok. I don't exist to entertain people with conversations. Other people can put effort in as well... The pressure doesn't always have to be on you!!
@Grubbbee7 ай бұрын
Hey! Your post right here is a great example 🙂. I'm no expert, but lately I've been trying to see awkwardness from a different angle - as something normal and ok to embrace, not fear. We always think we are the weirdo, but many or most people probably experience the same feelings.

Some time ago a person I barely met strated a conversation with me, and at the beggining it went surprisingly well (I'm kinda bad at talking with ppl unless I get to know them), but then they started asking these questions, like about my personal values and beliefs, and I completely freaked out and kept saying 'I don't know' 😭 I hate smalltalk, but these questions are too personal for me, especially as a conversation starter. I guess I struggle with talking about myself... I mean, give me 2 days to think about "what challenge made me grow" and then I'll give you an answer 😅

Maybe the problem is that I'm always scared of saying something wrong.

Maybe because I got used to it. Almost everyone always has to ask countless times what i said. But sometimes I can write it down. I go to a Speech therapist. Sometimes we play Uno and I have to say the card I'm laying down. And sometimes I have to say a letter or a short word and he sees how loud I was. Last time I got 60 decibels at the letter A and 50 decibels at the word Ja (Yes)

@DonovanAenslaed8 ай бұрын
Supposedly, it is simple: approach, greet, and start a small talk about your surroundings. It can be a situation going on in the coffee shop, a waiting line, or even the weather. Did you get a positive response? Personalize the conversation and move on gradually to deeper topics. Did you get a negative response? Leave them alone and move on. Rinse, repeat until you get good at it. It's either that or wait until someone actually wants to talk to you, which hardly ever happens.

Honestly, I don't feel comfortable with sharing my vulnerability other than my diagnoses. Diagnoses can show something deeper to other helping us to understand others and later put them in confusion by showing them that I'm above their measurement, discouraging them. Although directly showing something on which they can keep an estimation on and explicit can be used again us as a weapon. This happened to me many occasions in the past and I'm not doing it any longer. I'm becoming prouder as I've already dumped religion.

@Gaminghj6 ай бұрын
@@cupid4010 It really depends. On if they're willin to open up to you or anyone. Different people have different ways of bein. Some don't want to open up to anyone while some may be willin. You must also be a more complete and risk takin person. Riskin bein vulnerable with those you wish to deeply converse with and what I mean by more complete is a mature, compassionate, understandin, humble, considerate and etc kind of person. You need a lot to be able to properly do this sort of thing. Start it and keep it goin. And what you may find when you go deeper with a person may not be somethin you like. Don't feel guilty about that. You are who you are. They are who they are. That's fine. Don't stick around if you can't see that. Explain that if it becomes necessary even though it's really hard. It's necessary. But if you do like what you see then that's good for you. Go even deeper. Discuss more things. Learn the person or persons. Take risks and you may find somethin greater. You may lose too but it's better than just bein there doin nothin. If you're ready then you got this 👍

Try doing anything (excluding harmful things) that'll take your mind off of that, things you didn't do before, spend time with friends, talk to them about it (or someone you trust with such information and can offer you comfort, even if all they can do is listen without judgement, it's better than nothing) It's okay to not be okay about this, but don't let such events tear you down. And don't beat yourself up if you do end up thinking about her or something similar. It'll hurt at first, it always does, but it's up to you to choose how long you allow it to hurt. A week ago isn't a long time, so don't rush yourself. Take it slow and easy, you have plenty of time, but don't allow it to extend for months or even years.
