GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK ON KZbin. You are spot on there too, if you dont take care of you, then you cant take care of your business. Similar advice goes out to first responders Home Health and medical folks. I am pivoting a small business of my own as well. working on making it fit in better with my regular job and home life. a little 3d printing farm. I still like to do woodworking and may make some specialty wood working tools too. The side hustle is to help pay off my student loans for now. got to have a goal! See ya again soon! LOVE your advice and story.

Thank you so much for this video. I really needed to hear what you had to say. Wheel number two is flat on my bus because I’m not sure how to find customers for my products. If I had a nickel for every positive comment I could retire already. You guys are awesome!

Thank you for this lesson. I've been making some moves forward in my little business and get lost on where I should focus my energy. I'm running on 4 spares but have faith that I'm going in the right direction.

Great job as always! I have been slowly leaning to keep the tires on my bus rolling and maintained with enough air... I am still working on that forth tire but getting better and better as I realize it is much needed. Take care and wish you both and your business growth and success.

Great advice to make sure the wheels don't fall off! I recently had to push pause on my business as well and it has been revitalizing. Taking time to reflect on how far you have come, analyze where your blind spots may be and plan for the next phase of growth, reduce stress and anxiety in the long run. We appreciate all you do for us.

Ok my question is i do furniture restoration how would you lay it out to let people know what you do
@BenVanKirk
@BenVanKirk 6 ай бұрын
@@robertlivingstone3947 The first thing is to define your audience. Are you restoring furniture for people or are you restoring furniture then reselling it? The first should be set up like a service-based business and the second would be a product-based business. Then find a niche of what sells best. For example, tables, chairs, dressers, cabinets etc... Find one or two things that you can specialize in. what is your style? From there putting process in place for how the restoration is done is the key for consistent results. Then find your market - antique malls, before and after pics on social media, taking request for certain types of pieces etc... Get out in the community and tell people about all the great things you are doing!

Great advice. You can be the best woodworker in the world but if you can't take good pictures, create good descriptions and know how to hustle its gonna be rough.

Great Video! Some of us are also affected by the economy. We are in the process of trying to figure out another business venture that will succeed in a down economy. Sales this years are down a lot. I am not sure how the economy fits into your business model or if it has been affecting you, but would love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks!

You might need to extend the metaphor a bit. Most modern busses have at least 6 wheels (2 in the front, and 2 pairs (4) in the back)... 🤓 Unless you are on the "short bus". 🤣

It really sucks to live in germany, we are not allowed to sell what we build except we have a master degree in the craft, so being able to build something does not make you able to sell it in pur country.. Amerika seams to be much more maker-friendly.. love your stories though..

I have thirty years experience in the woodworking world,mostly self employed. I have a 2000 + sq ft workshop behind my house full of three phase equipment. A window cleaner in my village makes more money than I have ever made and has far less stress . Woodworking ,unless you are blessed with customers who will pay whatever you ask,is possibly the worst business to go into. What you have done is (wisely) sought out a product that is about as simple as it could possibly be ,and this is the main wheel on the bus in my opinion. As soon as you introduce more complexity into a product,that’s when the headaches begin. You are basically churning out lumps of sized and sanded wood and that is about as simple as it gets. Making them “customised” means that you just chuck them on a cnc router and go for a brew. I am very interested to see what your next product will be, but I’m sure it will be just as basic and simple. I’m not criticising you for this,but you could well be misleading naive hobby wood workers to Quiting their job for what you are putting forward as a bit of a panacea. It’s a tough world out there and self employment in any sphere has its challenges,but especially so in manufacturing. I’m writing this from England and I appreciate that I’m not comparing like for like, but for instance,the price of timber here is truly eye watering,and the same goes for hardware. I have worked most of my life in unheated workshops and with the way things are going I’m even reluctant to switch the lights on . I think that you have become a “motivational” business,relying on utube clicks for your sales talk.a bit like Tony Robinson & co. Please be more grounded and realistic . I know I have been very critical with my views on this subject, but I mean no harm and am only putting the flip side forward . I really do wish I could truly encourage people to go ti alone in the woodworking field, but I’m retirement age and glad to get out . Regards from the UK.
