Hi, question.. are all of your stores on Etsy or do you sell on other platforms? Also, you have several separate shops for each little niche? I’m trying to decide if I should niche down more or even up more, and also considering opening another shop with slightly different target audience.
@GrantGreetings3 жыл бұрын
@@Sunset1705 yes, I do have more than one Etsy shop. Also have eBay, Amazon, RedBubble, Zazzle. I design everything from products to digital, to cards to books. I highly believe you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. I have seen sites close and take all my hard work with them. It's discouraging. I stay busy and never get bored. Each of my Etsy stores specializes in something. I ran a woodworking Etsy store for 10 years but recently closed it due to declining sales and rising shipping costs.

Trust me, selling digital items on etsy is a nightmare. My friend was selling for 5 years and a bunch of competitors kept reporting her. Actually, they were buying her items, reporting her and reselling her design. Etsy couldn't do anything about it and eventually, she closed her shop. And yes, she was making sales at first but after 2 or 3 months, it went down and not only her but I hear this story so many times.
@Berry.k-q6h Жыл бұрын
why they were reporting and how that reporting thing affected her?
@briandixon4155 Жыл бұрын
Same for me.
@BillGraper Жыл бұрын
How could they report her successfully? If she had her items listed already, and they were 100% hers, there is no way to prove otherwise. I have a bunch of copyrighted songs in the US copyright office. What if we protect our work that way before listing it online?
@1095MealsAYear Жыл бұрын
@@BillGraper 🤔That's how it works on Etsy. You can report anyone, Etsy doesn't really check who the owner is. If you don't believe me, you can try, and you will see it will work. Etsy doesn't want to be involved in this infringement stuff. You can report anyone now if you wish to, you will see it works, and that's the whole problem. You know what, I talked to some people about it because that is a known issue, and Etsy doesn't care, but if you want to protect yourself, the ONLY way is to get a lawyer so when you get reported, your lawyer will talk with Etsy, and then you are protected. Is it worth it? I guess so. Is it expensive a lot, and that's another reason why most people lose their work because they don't want to pay for a lawyer. After talking to my friend, she told me many people started to sell on their own websites. If you count your loss by fake reports vs lower sales on your website, you are winning to be your own boss. This is something people need to consider more because people think Etsy brings free traffic. While it's true, getting a flow of fake reports is the culprit on Etsy, and this is enough to make you bankrupt. My friend lost over 100K because of this. There is a large network in Vietnam doing fake reports. They have tons of phony accounts with credit cards. Enough to keep you busy with counter-notices instead of focusing on creating and selling on Etsy.

Thank you again Lauren. I have another Q: if you sell things that are not of the same genre, such as jewellery and print art, is it better to open two Etsy stores? Are you even allowed to do that? If so, is it best to do that? Like, people say "branding" is important and I don't know what that means exactly, so am I right to assume that one of the meanings is to have your store mostly sell within only one genre of products?

If it's not a copyrighted image (say Disney or something) then they should be able to bring it to a poster printing shop or even an office store like Staples / Office Max and have the poster printed from a file. Compressed file, needs a app or software to compress it or decompress, ussualy you have to pay for that service. So its's a hustle for people.

This is pure perfection. I recently enjoyed a similar book, and it was pure perfection. "The Hidden Empire: Inside the Private Worlds of Elite CEOs" by Adam Skylight

Hi Lauren, New here! Love your content! I have a question - Is there anyway of protecting your digital products when selling them? I've always wanted to do this. However, I worry that someone may copy or steal the work that I put in. Any advice?

I sell digital products on my website and I have no protection. It just says on my website that the product is not for resale (it says the same on Etsy stores). For my courses, I have that the product is not for resale in the footer of the sales page. I've never had a problem in 10 years.

You upload the file to your Etsy listing. It sends it to them when they purchase

I’m new here, by new daily listings does that mean on your shop you’ll have that one product on your shop or multiple of that same product on your shop?
