I like South African chicken, but that might be because I'm South African lol. Tbh though there is nothing uniquely South African about that dish. As for a name, maybe Sunday chicken, as a nod to the South African 'seven colours' Sunday meal.

I'm a OTR truck driver and I am away from home 9 months out of the year, so cooking smart is very important to me. My $19 Crock Pot from Walmart is my best friend because I use it all the time and it hasn't let me down in the 4 years since I bought it, it makes cooking in the truck super easy and it always turns out great. I love your channel and use many of your recipes

So I made the tortellini soup for supper tonight. Super easy. I had to substitute the heavy whipping cream for half and half because that’s what I had. To church it up I also added Italian seasoning and 2 bay leaves during the cooking process along with about a cup of shredded parm at the end. Direct quote from my 10 year old picky eater: “This taste like a rich person’s soup. Like it should be in a fancy restaurant that you pay $20 or something.” 🤣☠️ My 18 month old also ate a large portion. Great recipe and apparently I’m going to have to make it for my son’s next birthday dinner… which is 8 months away. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😂

Southwest or Fiesta Chicken. I think I would use the full 28 oz of tomatoes, all the tomato paste, more of all the spices & 3 cans worth of beans instead of 1. Would make it more filling, stretch it to more servings & lower the price per serving.

Some of my favorite crockpot dinners are: Pulled pork (a pork loin, little water, and cook until it falls apart, then shred and add BBQ sauce), ribs (cut a rack of ribs, bought on sale, of course, into 1/3's so they fit in the crockpot, a little water, and cook until they pull away from the bone, then, transfer to a cookie sheet, slather in bbq, and finish in the oven on broil for 3-5 minutes), sweet-n-sour meatballs (frozen package of meatballs, 1 jar chili sauce, 1 jar grape jelly - sounds gross, but tastes GREAT! Serve over rice), lots of soups and chili. Crockpots are amazing!

Crock pot liners seem a good idea from a clean up perspective but they’re plastic and I don’t like using excess plastic if I can help it, so I will continue to wash up the pot and not use a liner... unless someone can confirm they’re recyclable? 🥴
@laurens7731
@laurens7731 3 жыл бұрын
Was about to comment the same thing! They are most likely not recyclable (and even then the majority of plastic doesn't actually get recycled yanno, look up the stats! REDUCE comes before RECYCLE) so should be avoided where possible. I just don't see the need for them? It's already a 1 pot dish... Just wash the pot!

I have a very similar recipe called Southwest chicken that I’ve made for years. It’s a favorite in our house, even made it when friends came over once and found out he doesn’t typically like things to be all mixed together but he loved it. 😁 My recipe calls for a jar of salsa, so easy, no chopping veggies. I’ve even thrown in a can of rotel before. I usually serve with rice.

Agree with the dairy free and the southwest chicken! As for the dishes she showed in this video. A lot of the milk was used for the fat so subbing in coconut milk could be a good swap. For cheese, that’s harder but nutritional yeast could be an okay swap. Using a nice broth would also help to round out flavor as well.

The chicken is nothing like peri-peri chicken, so I agree this is not South African at all. My guess is that it was originally South American Chicken and somehow switched over the years as it absolutely has a lot of the ingredients that Americans associate with Latin American food. Ranch crockpot chicken is a good one too. Chicken, ranch packet, cream of chicken. Low for 6hrs. Use a mixer to shred. Serve on mashed potatoes with canned corn and drizzle gravy from the crockpot overtop. I usually serve this like a kfc bowl, mixed together. Super yummy, super cheap, and super easy to make. Cook for 4 hours or so on high pull out chicken to shred add can if cream if mushroom or cream of chicken soup and a block of cream cheese. I usually let that soften for about an hour. Stir and add chicken back in. Heat for another hour and serve over spaghetti with bread and a salad. Taste alot like alfredo!

The first time i found a crock pot available in Spain for purchase wasnt too many years ago and it was only available at one of the most expensive stores here. I always watched youtube videos and crockpot videos, but could never get one...when i found it i bought it without nuch hesitation. It cost me 99€ or more if Im not mistaken. It has made some of my favorite meals for sure. Especially here we have to substitute many ready made canned items available in the U.S and they have to be made from scratch here. When i went back to the U.S for a visit I saw the same one as mine for 19$ at Walmart. But the majority of recipes I can feel closer to home with are healthy, a time saver...I love it!

I just made Mississippi pot roast over the weekend! It's absolutely a hit at my house. I used beefy onion soup mix powder (that's what I had) instead of Italian seasoning. It does make awesome sandwiches. I won't even use my crockpot without liners because now I'm too lazy and spoiled to wash it out. LOL

The South African chicken is something I called Mexican goulash. I usually add red cabbage, zucchini, and a mix of different peppers, since it's a great dish to add lots of veggies. It's great as a soup, enchilada filling, topping on baked potatoes, or zoodles. All sorts of goodies. I've never shredded chicken with a wisk before, how fun! I have used my stand mixer but that creates a minced mushy texture. Love the hair!

LOVE the roast. It always turns out amazing! If you take a fork and twist in the middle of the roast and doesnt turn easily just keep it cooking. Kept the extra "sauce" for later in the week for pasta or Yorkshire pudding.

Elbow macaroni - a big favorite in my house is "Spaghetti-mac". All you have to do is brown and drain a pound of ground beef, add a jar of sauce, a jar of water, a cup or two of macaroni, and then cook until the pasta is done to your liking. If the sauce dries up too much, just add more water.

Cumin is an Asian or Mediterranean spice often used in those dishes is a staple in our kitchen because I do a lot of from scratch Asian and Mediterranean dishes. African dishes use different herbs and spices (had a friend from Africa who taught me how to cook traditional African dishes). I would name is either Asian or Mediterranean chicken and love this with a spinach tortilla wrap topped with some additional cheese. Love your channel and hubby loves your recipes. Just wanted to put in my two cents and say thank you for sharing so many amazing simple meal ideas.
