I vividly remember the day about 20 years ago when, as a teenager, I was cooking something with my mom: the recipe called for 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard and she just squirted in a bunch of it without measuring. I freaked, being a know-it-all teen, saying that it was way too much. And she went and got the measuring spoons and scooped out the mustard and proved it was pretty much exactly 1 tbsp - totally showed me up, and taught me that you don’t question the magically measuring eye/hands of an experienced cook!!!

I had one & felt the same. One Sunday I made spaghetti sauce for church. I sat the crock down on the ground while I was getting my daughter out of the car to go in. My pastor came out & asked if I could give my spot to a guest who had trouble walking. He took my daughter, I got in the car, backed up right into my crockpot. It didn't make it. 😓

I am a single mom with two teenager and young adult 23 years old). Your videos really projects “can do “ attitude which really really inspires me to try different ideas or ways to improve my home life, family and health. Is there a way I can DM you so I can ask. New to your channel, loving the content and can relate alot. Have used most of the tactics/ ideas over the 24 years my marriage, especially when we first were married. Love crockpots, always call them crockpots, best way to stretch a dollar and make life easier with littles. I have a crockpot problem though, over the years I now have 8, but only bc one crock broke, and the replacement crock isn't available. Anyone else have a crockpot addiction? When my kids were little and we had parties all the time, I would use most of them for buffets, as they got older at school functions and fundraisers. Crockpots are a life saver!

Christine, I think you should give olives a second chance and try the good ones from an olive bar or even Sam’s Club (their deli section!)... black olives from the can give all olives a bad rap but the brininess of a Kalamata and the firmness and brightness of a green olive is so wonderful! 👌🏼

Would you like a super simple curry recipe? Works great in a slow cooker and it's great, healthy comfort food! It freezes well too. The base of the recipe is: -a little bit of oil -1 onion, chopped, you can also use leeks, or both -2 cloves of garlic, chopped -2 table spoons of tomato puree -2 heaping table spoons of your favourite curry paste (or how much you like) -1 fresh chili or some dried chili flakes/chili powder to taste -1 tin of chopped tomatoes or passata/pasta sauce -1 tin of beans, drained and rinsed (my kids like kidney beans most) -200 grams of dried red lentils, rinsed (which is probably about a cup) -1 zucchini/courgette, chopped -other herbs and spices to taste, I like to add some smoked paprika powder, pepper and salt as well as chives and parsley -2 stock cubes -water to cover everything (or omit the stock cubes and use ready made bouillon if you have it) --> Simply put everything in the slow cooker, mix and put on high for 5-6 hours or on low all day if you're putting it together in the morning and want to eat it that evening. We eat this curry with rice most of the time, but it's so lovey with roast potatoes as well. I like to put some cottace cheese on the edge of my plate too. This recipe fits in my slow cooker, which is nearly 1 US gallon in size I think (3,5 litre) Obviously this recipe is adaptable and easy to scale up and you can use whatever beans or vegetables you like (we did find broccoli overpowering when we used that, cauliflower works better. Peppers and peas are nice to use as well) Enjoy, and greetings from the Netherlands!

I accidentally unfroze more butternut squash than I meant to, so I pureed some to about 3 cups worth, added it and 4 cups of broth to a big pan, put in half a bag of frozen shredded hashbrowns, and wondered what I needed to add to season. I confirm that Italians definitely eat potatoes 😊 Of course there is gnocchi, potato stuffed oven baked pastas, roast chicken and potatoes is a favorite, potato frittata, broth making (part of many recipes), minestrone, sformata di patata, thinnly sliced potatoes on pizza, homemade potato chips, & more. Roasted Potatoes are a common side dish with a meat course. *Bonus*Northern Italian: potato salad with apples, pine nuts, yogurt/mayo, raisins, oregano (rare, very regional).
