Justine - Now that I am a Canadian senior, retired and home most of the time, I have fewer wardrobe needs, so I have found your advice very helpful as I have downsized the contents of my closet. I still very much enjoy clothes, hair and make-up, so it has been lovely to feel included in your audience instead of relegated to obscurity as an old woman, and I have discovered how timeless fashion can be while enjoying your sweet delivery and winning personality in these videos. THANK YOU MY GIRL!

I totally agree with you. I find Justine wonderfully professional, knowlegable & well organised in her approach to the subject she is able to present extremely well in a very dignified manner, without preaching. She is so practical, & most qualified in offering advise. Justine is really interesting in her delivery & I enjoy her videos emensly, as I enjoyed à long career in fashion & beauty & like to keep up with trends & style in my retirement. Thank-you Justine. I'm very impressed by your depth of knowledge & realise you are very thorough in your presentations. BRAVO, please keep up the good work! Kind regards Jacqueline Flaschner, in New Zealand.

This fall I had to do the opposite for my capsule!! I have spent the last two years collecting a couple unique key pieces like sweaters, jackets and pants that I love wearing and re-wearing. They all have a range of cut, texture and coolers. But this fall when I looked at closet I was missing some of the basic foundational pieces like t-shirts! I bought two new shirts and one tunic (made and designed in Canada). I focused on getting shirts that were well cut so they would look polished on their own, looser fitting so I didn't have to ware a wired-bra, and quality material so that it would look good under a blazer on zoom meetings. But the thing I was most focused on was buying simple colourful peaces that would both compliment the colour pallet, textures and tones of my closet! It really pulled things together, and got me to step out of my comfort zone of wearing navy blue from head-to-toe.

I love that we are all different. I am 5/4 so officially petite but rectangular so I look for sillouettes that make me look taller; for me looser pants are great and it's so hard looking at spectacular photos of someone who is not at all like me and think, wow! I can do that. Well, not.

I'm 5'11 (and from Berlin!, though I now live in the States) as well, and it's so nice to follow someone on KZbin who is tall. Most of my other favorite fashion/minimilism/capsule wardrobe channels are led by petite women. There is lots out there on how to dress if you're small, but little for taller women, including quality, sustainable brands. Pants are always an issue, but so are the waists of dresses which sit too high. Shifts are fine, but it would be nice to be able to wear a dress with a waist, too. By the way, love the sweater you're wearing in this video. So cozy.

Your capsule wardrobe video has helped me slowly build mine (once I figured out what my color palette should be, your videos on that helped tremendously) and having this advice on how to keep it from being boring is very timely. I like my capsule but ... I also like to keep things feeling fresh and fun. Learning about how to use pattern and texture in a capsule is exactly the step I was looking for but couldn't really figure out. I appreciate how gentle you are with your suggestions- you are an authority in this area but you talk to your viewers with respect for our ideas and needs/desires. I get very tired of people speaking as though they are the definitive and only opinion on a topic. Thank you for the time and work you put into your videos and designs.

Classic can never be boring - only the person who tries to 'squeeze' themselves into a style that isn't flattering them the best or fake. I've seen the rise of 'elegant/timeless/feminine etc. gurus on youtube who don't look the part or look too rigid in the classical styles. Why go against your own nature just to follow someone? I love what I love and you love what you love and that's fine!

I recently culled much of what I wasn’t wearing or wouldn’t wear but I kept jackets that I hadn’t been wearing instead of far too many comfy cardigans. I can dress casually for my job as a teacher but I feel as professional in jeans with a casual but structured jacket as I did in dress pants with a cardigan. It also feels more modern with white trainers. The gods must be watching because I don’t think I could stand all day in platforms or even survive a day in ballet flats at my age. I enjoy combining colors but now that I teach exclusively via video, color around my face seems extremely important.

And this comes just at the point when I will change my summer wardrobe with my other wardrobe, that was supposed to be my weekend seasonal chore :) Last winter I haven't bought anything new. I wanted to do it to be sure what am I missing in my wardrobe. Turns out the only thing I found I often wished I had to complete my outfit and colour palette is a brown cardigan. And this was such an amazing change of mindset, to be patient for a whole year and be completely sure I won't buy a piece of clothing I won't use often and find practical! You are truly changing people's lifes for the better

I was so distracted by how pretty you look that I didn't hear anything you said and (once I realized), had to go back to the beginning to re-listen! You look fantastic in grey and it makes your eyes look grey (I know this sounds weird but, grey was my favourite colour from my late teens through my twenties!).

Justine, this is wonderful, merci beaucoup! I quite agree that capsules without these elements are BORING. I see them all over the Internet and I simply cannot understand why anyone would want to live in such a joyless way. As a ginger I look best in warm tones so the recent resurgence of such colors in fashion makes me giddy. Trying to find the right shades that are more enduring is a challenge. My “black pants” and “little black dress” (unmentioned in THIS video but in many others) are both chocolate brown and utilizing more intriguing than usual fabrics like velvet and silk. My “white button down shirt” (so classic and in virtually every capsule online) is a lovely rich cream blouse with nary a button in sight! The unique cut, silhouette, and artful details make my heart sing. I cannot fathom wearing the same shirt that my utilitarian father wore to work everyday. I’m a wholly different creature! So glad we have you to wake us up from the endless monotony!

Very inspirational Justine! You didnt overwhelm and classic. Lots of examples from the 70's! And I like natural fabrics. Back then it was all that! My mother sewed and made herself a polyester "crimplene" pantsuit that was wash and wear...she quickly became a fan. She wore it to my German mother in law's who was horrified and amazed at no ironing. Even my dad's work shirts!! All synthetics now. I'm sewing with cotton and wool as much as I can. Love the drape and body. And they feel good.

Had to watch this before I go to sleep (I'm in Australia and it's way past midnight). Great video, Justine. I don't have a capsule wardrobe but I like the idea of them and I love watching videos about them. It has made me try and be more considerate about my clothing purchases - I think more about what the item will go with, what will it match in my wardrobe etc.

I find that looking at my actual day to day life helps me choose my wardrobe staples wisely. I live in Scandinavia, and realized that I very seldom remove my jumper during autumn/winter, so I don’t need any fancy shirts to go underneath the jumper. I do however love a fun jumper, which is reflected in my *many* knitted pieces. I mostly combine them with trousers, which explains why I have a few of those as well. Skirts and dresses just don’t have a place in my wardrobe - and neither do clothing without pockets. I’ve found your videos very fun and thought provoking!

KZbin recommended your channel to me and I am glad. I find your advice thought provoking and practical, as well as entertaining. Over the years, my clothing needs have changed. Unfortunately, so did my figure, from inverted triangle to hourglass to pear-shaped. The last is difficult to cope with. As a retired person, I am weeding out some of the blazers. As many were bought at thrift shops, I was willing to compromise a bit on size, ignoring one or two that were too large. I was also caught unaware of the psychological down-sizing by which the size 8 I wore in the 1960s became the size 6 (around the time I became an hour glass) and finally a size 4! I have recently become aware that my palettes (I am a Color Me Beautiful winter) changed so that I have a fall/winter wardrobe dominated by grey, black, red, some chocolate brown, royal blue and purple, while my spring/summer clothes tended toward khaki, pink, French blue and turquoise/teal. One thing I wish is that colors would not disappear. The turquoise and teal shades disappeared during the 60s, perhaps as a backlash against their harshness in the 1950s. I would love a forest green skirt for fall/winter but they've been scarce for years!

I'm 5ft 2in and have been happy lately NOT to take pants up at an extra cost but reading through here I"m laughing out loud!! We are all different and nobody seems happy! I think they should offer a 'pants up' service and leave the hems raw! It could pay dividends! I used to do this in the late 60's when ordering 'LOON' pants with a raw edge. I always knew I was going to look good and the tailor I went to knew my measurements. Invaluable!

Merci, Justine! what a nice surprise to see this pop up this morning. Although it's still warm in LA, this video makes me pine for my cozy sweaters. Good advice here on using dimensions such as cut, color, & texture to add some personality to a capsule wardrobe. Thanks for the shout-out to cable knits, which I've always loved. And argyle is back! Love that too, even though it can be a bit tricky to wear. I'm here for any intarsia knits, & still think about that distinctive turquoise & black knit you did in your most recent collection. Ready for fall. Let's go!

Mashi Maro me too- though I do keep up with trends if only for my teenage daughter. Personally, I wear mostly Belle Époque and Edwardian styles (with a small amount of 1940s thrown in). But I’ve noticed that a few pieces I’d class as wardrobe staples (a white blousey shirtwaist, a nice tweed waistcoat) are coming back in to fashion- which might make finding items a little easier (or at least make it so I don’t have to sew every item of my wardrobe, which will be nice). But I’ve found that even with my decidedly not-trendy wardrobe, Justine’s tips on how to build a good wardrobe that isn’t too big, has been highly useful!

I try to stay with classic pieces in neutrals and earth tones from season to season. When the trend began, I latched onto the skinny jeans with above knee boots and half boots as I realized it made my (barely) 5 feet(1.5 m) look at lot taller. With only rare and stressful trips outside my home being made, I am going to stay in skinny jeans (well assuming I can keep the carbs away) for as long as I can. I do appreciate the diversion of these videos. Thank you.

Merci Justine for your posts, I find them very informative, I think during winter, It’s very attractive to wear a color that compliments your eye color, for example you could wear a warm blue to bring out your eyes, a green eye person a green or perhaps blue/green does not have to match exactly but perhaps a color that is close on the color scale example blue could be a sky or Mediterranean blue.it’s very refreshing during a cold, grey winter!

This is so helpful! I’ve been trying to hone my personal style a lot more and use what I have rather than buying new pieces a lot, and this gave me some good things to think about.

Please do for all other seasons. I just moved from Germany to Sydney this year (just before Covid!) and spring is starting here. And every video I watch is about the cold season trends. I'm very confused 🙃

Justine, I had a capsule wardrobe but I quit because I have to do laundry too often. It only works well when I'm traveling for short periods of time. I did take good care of my capsule clothing but it still got worn out and faded. I needed to dry clean more often, too. Even though they were good quality, I ended up replacing items more often, so it just didn't work for me. Now I keep two capsule wardrobes: one for travel and for work. The work wardrobe is just uniforms.

Thank you so much, Justine ! For finally talking about capsules wardrobe! Since I heard about capsules years ago, I had struggled about making it unique, add a little bit interesting items instead of full of basic combinations. Your advices really help a lot!
