I think one of the worst mistake in kpop is to call artists and singers "idols", I think the idea of idolizing a human being just like me and you is totally wrong.
@shanchan82473 жыл бұрын
But that's the point. Idols are not 'artists' in the sense that we understand it to be. Artists have a lot more freedom and creative control. Idols are specifically chosen and trained for the purpose of having a large fan base and generating money for an entertainment agency. That's why Idols are on a dating ban, are told exactly what to say and how to act in public, they are assigned certain roles within the group and can't deviate from it. (Taeyong from NCT is an example. They made him rap despite the fact he didn't like hip hop and liked rock music). The companies want fans to obsess over their Idols because it makes them spend more money. As an artist, you would only be concerned about the music and personal expression....things many idols don't get a chance to do until they've been in the industry for a long time and even then they still have to be careful. An artist can date, get married, have kids anytime. If an Idol did that, it would be the end no matter how old they are. An Idol would have to retire to have that kind of freedom. Chen from Exo was very lucky not to receive huge backlash.

Since people are still confused about the JayB issue, here are some facts : 1.The photographs on the wall were actually part of an art exhibition. 2.There was also a photo of himself in a beanie which was misinterpreted as female private parts. 3.The wall was shown for a few seconds. (whoever had zoomed in that dim lighting and found out this is definitely one of a kind!) 4.The wall has never made an appearance before. 5. Most importantly, he apologised for not being careful enough about the younger audience. It is alright if you feel uneasy about the situation. I had to step outside my identity as a fan and consider the reality and make a decision for myself. The model’s consent and JayB recognising where exactly was the issue is what’s most important to me. In my opinion, the only thing problematic is the whole Chen situation. People have already explained enough about why JB's whole thing is fine, he just needs to be careful cause of younger viewers, that one i get, but everything else knetz need to just calm the hell down (but what's new?). Same goes for Wanna One situation. They're just a bunch of guys what did they expect? My guy friends are like that, and they're humans. They're not gonna be rainbows and cupcakes all the time. Also as a black kpop stan, Yaebin looked and sounded genuinely apologetic, so her apology is accepted, she just needs to be more careful. It only becomes a problem when she keeps doing it (which she hasn't i don't think.). And then lastly, Chen. Didn't that live happen a while back? And it's still an issue. My biggest problem is that there have been no apologies. It's basically implying that "Whatever ya'll don't matter." If something is offensive to a race or culture, then the correct thing to do is apologize. Even if you don't understand why. Go find out why and apologize. Simple. And just cause they're your fav doesn't mean that what they did is okay. Yes, they're humans too, we all make mistakes. But when we do we say were sorry and it's the offended person's choice whether or not to accept.

I understand how fans cover up for artists but in the case of EXO, EXO-Ls were asking EXO to apologise and since I've seen them being kinda colorist relating Kai's complexion, I've also seen them grow.. I'm not defending them but the main thing about making mistakes is to learn from them.. Nowadays, exo members have been complimenting Kai's complexion a lot and I hope that they stay the same and never do what they did in the past ever again..Also, idols need to be educated about such stuff..Racism in Korea is very common and it shouldn't be.. Everyone in Korea must be educated about this since the comments the idols make while knowing about racism or not are very rude and disrespects plus hurts the sentiments of a whole race of people! Also, I'm not telling Y'all to unstan your favs but the bare minimum you can do is to hold them accountable for their actions..As much as I know and have seen people talk about chen, he's not the kind of person to hurt anyone so I think what SM should've done instead of trying to hide it was to make him apologise and teach their idols about racism since it's not something that should be normalised..As much as ik chen, ik he'll understand, apologise and never repeat the same mistake again but for that they need to educate him first since more than half of the idols in kpop don't even know about black history and racism that the whole community faces..

the Wanna One and JB incident just confirms that what we see from our idols (even the so called real stuff from their vlives) is all part of their packaging. I LIKE IT! it’s a reality check we need to remind ourself that these are perfectly imperfect people so let’s stop idolizing them and just enjoy their music, dancing, performances, etc. and the other stuff, we can enjoy it too but know that those are as fictional as the MVs they produce.

I feel like it is so hard to live in South Korea as some of them are so perfectionist and have a high beauty standards. It must be so stressful if you encountered being judged everyday of what you are doing... or it might be applicable only for Celebrities and idols.

Asian people see an american person and shout the names of any american actor (mostly marvel actors XD) that they know... don't tell me you've never seen this situations! ...imo it was the same for chen. i always tell my mom that black. i always say to my mom that how most black girls and guys have beautiful full lips? why my lips are so small. i wish my lips were like them! not too small! in korea almost all people has small lips. like...really small lips and noses! so for them having wide mouth and wide smile reminds them of American people. specially american women actresses. having full lips reminds them of black people. their lips are so full and pretty. he just remembered those characters and named them as an example of having full lips. not for making fun of them or being racist. they have a lot of black fans and if you see fancams of when they are not on camera, you see how they treat all their fans equally. i saw that they respect their fans. as examples i saw them with black fans. with Malesian muslim fans. and with lgbtq member fans.... still after founding out that fans are offended about it, he HAD TO made apologies. i would be really happy if he had done this. i mean... i am a muslim asian (Iranian). one of the biggest targets of racism people! i always see people judging me even before i talk. i say i'm from Iran and it is enough reason for them to call me terrorist and so many bad things! bcz they see dumb and completely wrong things in western media about my country. things that are 99% wrong and funny for me! so i won't defend these things...i would never defend racism..but i think Chen's situation was different.

Why can’t some “fans” just leave their idols alone. They expect their idols to be perfect (aka not making sexual jokes), even though we know that most of the haters do it themselves. And not related to this video (well, it kinda is) if they think or hear that their idols have gotten plastic surgery, they shouldn’t hate on their idols. Plastic surgery should be ok, if an idol had done it. Idols are humans just like us, they should be treated the same way were treated. If an idol does something we do on our daily basis, why should they (the idols) be the only one to get criticized/hate.
@jesutomiale13242 жыл бұрын
To everyone who is saying that what Chen did didn't deserve criticism: Fine, let's just say that some idols aren't that educated, but as a human being, when you do something wrong, you deserve to be criticized and corrected so that you wouldn't make the same mistake. What Chen did was unexcusable and what makes it even more disappointing is that he didn't even apologize so stop defending idols saying that they are just ignorant because without criticizing them, they'd make the same mistake. I hope you try to understand what I'm trying to say, thanks for reading.

People: idols are human beings. Sure they sometimes accidentally do questionable things, but that does not mean that they are bad. JB is an artist and he if is in nude photography than its his choice and is not illegal. Chen may have tried to sound funny by saying that( although he should have apologized) and it all backfired. All i have to say is that I'm sure none of that was on purpose, because try to put yourselves in their shoes and experience the amount of pressure they get. And also because no one would want to intentionally get back lashed. It was an accident wether they knew about it or not. And stop labelling a person bad by just some mistakes they made. You can never know anyone completely
@paulajurczak35423 жыл бұрын
That means you don't know what Chen's intentions either.I understand that as an idol he receives great pressure. I can't imagine the stress, but you have to also see the other point of view how those jokes made black kpop fans feel.It was in fact a really racist joke to say, Just like how I hear people make racist jokes about kpop idols, or call Kpop Idols Jackie Chen.I'm not saying crucify Chen but by saying everyone makes mistakes it's only making excuses and enabling the behavior. He should've been held accountable,apologize and truly learn from his mistake. Have a good day though

@@paulajurczak3542 i agree with you. He should have apologized and i get how hurt the black fans might have been. The case with Yaebin is completely ridiculous, it's not like she added the word herself, she was literally reading the lyrics. How did we get to the point were in order to properly respect a black artist we have to censor their work. What if Yaebin had been at Nicki Minaj's concert and was singing along with Nicki as she said that word, would that still be racism? The double standards around this word need to stop.

one of those pictures jb has is a photographic remake of l'origine du monde by french realist painter courbet it really goes to show how much context changes public opinion. It's so fascinating how Courbet in the nineteenth century was challenging exactly this notion that people can make art based on their physical longing for a person, but the second its made hyper explicit people take issue to it. Honestly its a famous art work we dont need to shield the children from it. In the musée d'orsay where this piece hangs children are coming and going all they want, giggling at how explicit it is. The artwork isn't obscene it's a natural part of life.

1) Fans are so hypocritical. Fans create the sicknest fanfics, create fake photos where idols are naked and also leave nasty comments in their livestream. There is nothing wrong with those photos, the are art and the people who posed know that these photos will be seen by everyone. 2) i don’t know why fans are surprised when idols do racist actions, korea is a racist country, they don’t have much interaction with foreigners in general. Idols want to be famous outside of Asia and spread to westen, but they should learn how to treat their international fans and learn a little about their culture. And it is also not the first time that EXO has been racist, his comments to kai (they call him blackie). 3) Why sing a song that has the n word in a livestream (we shouldn’t do it private but people do it anyway) If you want to sing a song by nicky minaj choose one that does not have the n word or just skip the word. 4)At the beginning of the video they simply told the truth and how they felt (why only 20% and lack of sleep). Later it seemed to me that they got too comfortable and begin to throw comments out of place. But not to create such a stir.
@graciabraidy19373 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree about you saying that EXO is racist. Please don't mislead people. Even though Chen shouldn't have said that, he meant no harm to anyone. He was just joking and apologized las soon as he realized his mistake. Now some people will say that they were racist towards Kai (in 2013-2014). They were just joking and teasing him. Do you think they would be as close as they are now if they meant being racist toward Kai? So please before commenting and believing anything, be sure the source is reliable.

@@graciabraidy1937 everyone is racist and the reason is because racism is implemented in our society. the problem with exo and other idols is that they apolozige the first time but they keep making the same mistakes, if I can call them mistakes, when you do the same thing over and over they are no longer mistakes. racism has many faces, and one the faces is joking to much even when people try to educate you. The racism we see in idols is the racism that Korean society has implemented in them, but it is their job for their fans of color to educate themselves.
