Utterly clear!! Frontal toss, quick and fluid raquet drop, leg driving energy, to name just a few contributors to the acceleration, aren't they? Thanks a lot.

I commented on this video a few hours ago, went out and played, and was easily able to incorporate your second tip about acceleration into my game. I especially liked your idea of the shadow serve and hearing the sound of the racquet speeding up. I have never served better and more confidently. One of my opponents even commented on it. I did not mention your video. I told him I had sold my soul to the devil. But damn if your stuff isn't really good. I am working my way through all your videos. I really love that bonus tip about threading your second racquet through the net to give you a visual idea of hitting over it. I am so looking forward to tomorrow. Thank you.

Thanks again Ashley, very digestable information. Ball toss forward is the element I need to work on, getting that additional speed. Btw the recent advice on a more potent backhand volley has been absolute gold. I’ve been so much more consistent up at net. 🙏

Thanks for sharing Anthony! You’ll find it difficult at the start, you may even lose a bit of kick by tossing further forward. The key is to make small adjustments! The easiest to achieve is tip 2! Enjoy 😊

Thanks for the awesome video especially the bonus tip👍. However, can you share more tips of changing the direction of the kick serve(to rightly forehand). Given that the kick serve has different swing path from others, what is the most effective way to control the ball direction?

Really great video. I've now learnt a consistent kick serve with help from Nicola at Intuitive tennis (how to avoid slice when trying to kick) video. I can now move the ball a fair amount off the surface with good spin but often struggle to get the heavy ball that you describe. Think this info will really help me. Many thanks.

Thanks for the tips and love the content! I've had some success lately experimenting with where i make contact with the ball. For some reason I feel like I'm getting more action when brushing over the top of the ball (making contact directly at 12 or 1 on a clock). Do you have any thoughts on this? I feel like when I brush up on the ball in the traditional 6 to 12 way it works but its a little loopier with less action.

Ok, so you have a similar swing path as I do, meaning the racquet drops behind your head in the side view. (Behind your head, meaning it drops towards the net as opposed to the left side of the court as most pros). Is this a problem? Most pros don't serve this way, but some do (Ash Barty). Do I need to worry about this?

Hi, do you have any tips on how to get a loose grip? I know I have a tight grip, but I can't seem to get it loose
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor Жыл бұрын
- Focus on breathing out as you strike - Get a fresh grip/overgrip - Practice playing with only 2 or 3 fingers on the grip, this limits your grip and makes you more comfortable with looseness in your forearm.

Does the legs really add power to the serve? Can you analyze/review Stan’s serve? Physics wise, you will impart potential energy to the ball when going up? So you will impart more energy just at the moment you toke off the ground. But this doesn’t happen. Appreciate your comments.

Is it ok to change your grip when hitting your kick serve vs a flat or slice serve. I find it easier to hit a kick serve with an eastern backhand grip whereas I prefer a continental grip for the flat and slice serve.
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor Жыл бұрын
Yes you can, I mention that in my first video (it can help you to add spin) but won’t necessarily help with adding weight. Does that help?

I'd say you forgot the "easiest" way to get heavier balls on kick serves: a higher toss. Sure, it will mess with your consistency, it will be harder to time and hit correctly, but a falling ball means literally "free" ball speed (albeit downwards) and particularly free topspin. Or do you reckon the losses are more significant than the gains?

I had those issue as a junior player. I started playing again after a 16 year break and have no issues anymore. The difference? I was doing a lot of strength work as I am a regular gym goer. So even though I haven’t done any specific tennis conditioning just being stronger makes everything more efortless.

I find it harder to kick it to the forehand side. Does it even kick or is it then a topspin serve? What is the best way to do this? Thanks.
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor Жыл бұрын
You hit the kick as you normally would, just to the other side of the service box. It’s definitely tougher to do, but if you can do it well it will kick ‘into’ your opponent rather than away from them.

what happens if i hit a kick serve but as soon as i try to increase the speed of my wrist i just end doing a double fault cause the ball goes out long and it doesn’t catch the spin? do someone have some tips?
@Maiqel
@Maiqel 4 ай бұрын
If you're used to "brushing" the ball for the kick serve and try to swing faster for more ball speed, I guess you either end up risking shanking the ball or flattening the swing too much. I usually focus on swinging to the side (aiming to "brush" the ball) but "pushing" the ball forward with my body rotation -the result is of course the same as if you swung a little more forward (although maybe a little faster), but at least for me this mind-set helps not falling into a flat serve-. But this means you won't be looking at the ball when contact occurs, so a consistent toss is necessary. Anyway not looking at the ball through contact is something almost mandatory in any serve if you want to have a proper contact point (high as possible) and body rotation, or else your head kind of gets in the way of your arm awkwardly (or at least that's what happened to me). But as the kick serve demands an uncomfortable contact point and swinging to the side, body rotation gets kind of forgotten usually and we tend to try to maintain eye contact longer. Hope that helps!

@thetennismentor an idea for a video is to break down the different parameters and show in very exaggerated examples what each does to the shot. e.g. this is maximum spin and no power, now all power and no spin, now all racket drop and no whatever.
