Just curious if 2 people A and B respectively who know each other meet and greet and A begins to want to engage in gossip but then B interjects by explaining that he/she is not interested and then goes on to say that he/she would rather help and not hurt as well as explains how he/she helps the homeless and or people in need rather than put people down and harbor ill will towards someone ( unless they feel really hurt ) Does that make B a communal narcissist?

My parents are both narcissists. My father is a malignant narcissist and my mom is a covert narcissist. What a couple. It’s a nightmare to live with them. I had to be my own parent because they would only care about themselves. I had to be a dad and a mom to my siblings. When we all finished college by working part time, we moved out and got jobs. Lo and behold, they both demanded half of our salaries because they endured raising us. Wow. We cut ties with them and helped our grandparents instead. We’re all worried that we might become narcissist like them but we’re thankful we’re not. It’s so hard but we’re so glad we survived.

GRIZZ GOD the hell do you mean stop complaining “it’s pathetic”? You just watched a video about narcissism and the way it affects other people, of course she’s going to complain, it’s horrible! I’ve seen family members suffer through this, that think they aren’t good enough and get called so much shit but don’t do anything about it cause they care more for their families than themselves. This personality trait affects so many people negatively and you have the audacity to tell her to stop fucking complaining? Go comment somewhere else that it’s needed, not under a persons comment who is sharing their experience.

@@michelleg5371 it sounds like yours was the term I have heard which is demons in human flesh. And that is not an exaggeration on a human being. And it is not a figure of speech. From dealing with two at my work and from Googling that term I have come to realize that there are people, human beings, on this Earth that do not have a human soul from God but instead have an unclean spirit or a demon inside. They do not just say "Wooooooo, look at me, I am a demon now watch me kill everyone." Instead they live their life as a regular person but wreak havoc throughout and ruin people's lives. Once again it is not a figure of speech, demons in human bodies. It is real, there are two races of beings on this planet that both appear the same on the outside.

Hi I'm Trish. Thankyou for being so informative on narcissism. Unfortunately I was married to a narcissist 11 years. I went in as a confident person, probably became a bit narcissist myself trying to defend myself. When I was no longer myself I had to leave with my 2 children. He then charmed his way into my brother and sisters lives and used them as flying monkies. My only fallback has been of what my dear old Grandfather told me, always be truthful, it's too hard in life to remember all the different lies you tell. Your mind becomes your own maze to navigate. I have now learnt to be disassociated from all the stories my narcissist husband told my family. I never married again, and ran from marriage proposals and live very happily on my own.

Surprised that she is a woman or surprised that she is so eloquent? I just see a brilliant human being, since we are talking about their mind I don't see why their sex has anything to do with it. The older you get, if your lucky, you just see people for who they are, what they thing and feel, which involves so many personal variables which are WAY more influential than sex. I initially thought I was a narcissist, maybe a mix of covert and communal, my ex used to keep telling me I was a narcissist so I blamed myself but this video changed my views, no I am not a narcissist, I am a human, an empathetic giving human who takes accountability for their actions, who knows when I did something wrong and I need to make it right, I feel immensely guilty for hurting others and I give and give and give and only expect a little respect and love from the other person and isn't expecting love in return is what a normal human expects... No way I am a narcissist.... First my father then my bf of two years kept making me feel how I was not good enough.... I am tired of narcissists making me feel I am insufficient... Thank you dr. @Avus86
@Avus86 3 жыл бұрын
It is apparently a disorder, that information seems to be wrong. And you can detect it as well. No clue why she put all that stuff this way. Wiki: "Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) or megalomania is a personality disorder characterized by a long-term pattern of exaggerated feelings of self-importance, an excessive craving for admiration, and struggles with empathy.", "The narcissistic personality was first described by the psychoanalyst Robert Waelder, in 1925. The term narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) was coined by Heinz Kohut in 1968." and "A diagnosis of NPD is made by a healthcare professional interviewing the person in question.". Being a narcissist myself and having a Machiavellian and a narcissist as best friends, believe me, it's mostly malignant and definitely a disorder. Dr. Durvasula put it quite well in another video what such people are capable of. And it can be worse, esp. when they are psychopaths - just what you see in movies and series (like Tommy Volker in The Mentalist e.g.)...As being one of those, u can only hope to be lucky to have a humane part left in you that actually let's you know urself and do positive things, living a modest and quiet life - and like in my case never have children :) Unfortunately, in my point of view due to the lack of first hand- insight, the image of us is that they pretty much always harm and rarely do nice things. While it's certainly true for a lot, it's definitely not all.

@Avus86
@Avus86 3 жыл бұрын
@@TaymaShine Well, I don't know anybody like me, because I'm no full-blown narcissist, but essential character traits found in the DSM-5 and ICD-10 "are me". So I suppose that's the reason why I got a good relationship with my family and relatives as well as true friends. I was always perceived well behaved by my surroundings, polite and friendly and well mannered. And it's not even fake for the biggest part. Just with a love relationship I got my difficulties, that's an entirely different thing where it gets complicated (of course). Therapy I never did, for I am almost 100% probable intellectually superior to the therapist. Unfortunately, it's also part of my disorder, but that doesn't make it less true - or let's say that doesn't logically exclude the truth of my statement (I actually skipped a school year in elementary school and am tested gifted - plus my understanding and insight of human behavior leave little to desire; I figured out a few yrs ago that I got "Sensory processing sensitivity", which likely makes me "fake gifted" and emotionally very sensitive) - as soon as the therapist would touch this "grandeur" with any sign of denial, I'd be out...If therapy was free of charge, I'd have tried a few at least, but even here they are expensive and the chances of success are low. So no therapy till now. What's your background?
@Avus86
@Avus86 3 жыл бұрын
@DeeDee No. But sometimes "lost" maybe. Though I'd say it's not due to being narcissistic but rather of the circumstances finding sb on the same intellectual level... As it says in literature, usually Narcissists have had a trauma in their early youth. In my opinion and experience it's people in the close surrounding who crushed the self esteem over a prolongued period, probably with no parental support to back that up. Partly because of incapability and/or neglection, but I don't think it's the sole main reason. However, therefore you (always?) have an insecure child at the basis of the personality that's afraid nobody loves/respects it. So you "overcompensate". Depending on the damage done, the amount of the so-called narcissistic supply needs to be delivered. What I don't know but wouldn't be surprised of: For myself I tell others that something died inside me at that time when I was a child, irreparably. Like when you lose a leg - it's gone for good. A prosthesis makes you walk again but doesn't bring the leg back. That's the main purpose of a psychotherapy. So the "empty at the core" - thing is for most affected a "missing"-feeling I suppose, if it's strong it's rather like you lost a parent at young age: sth that can always make you sad but still leaves the opportunity for a regular, fulfilled life. Because it's always a part left so that u CAN even have a "missing"-feeling and idea of a "whole". Yet a lot Narcissists won't have the mental capabilities for this amount of self reflection. But when you can tease and anger them, or even worse, embarass them and they react, then you feel there's still a real personality inside...If the damage was too great however, and/or genetic precursors support it too much, u'd become a psychopath in my opinion. Then just everything is dead inside and there is no humane part left, and those people can't understand this issue anymore nor tell you from their own experience what's wrong with em in that regard....And yes, I have. They can help :) This song fits pretty perfectly how it feels inside: "Hans Zimmer - Time (Pen Perry Remix)"

I would say the first sign will come from your own gut feeling which will send signal to your body telling you that this person doesn't make you feel comfortable being around him/her. The fact that you are already asking this question should alert you to be careful. Something will feel off and you won't know what it is exactly. Covert narcissists can act very charming in the beginning but there will be often also present underlying sense of superiority about them. That sense is actually deriving from them feeling insecure about themselves, so they tend to quietly degrade others in order to feel better about themselves. On the other hand if covert narcissist feels that you are above his league, he will act like your servant, trying to please you - almost annoying in a way. But make no mistake. If you decide to stay in a relationship with him, he will downgrade you and abuse you like all the others. Because in his mind, if you love him, he thinks you are unworthy of him. Covert narcissists hate themselves so if someone loves them, than they think this person is worth less than them and that they can do better. Other sign to look for is any kind of judgment towards others. If he criticises other frequently, he will more likely criticise you as well once he gets more comfortable around you. Pay attention to how he treats people that are dependent on him as well. Narcissists hate those especially if they can't get anything of of that for themselves. Moreover, Cheating in marriages is not restricted to only men. Women cheat as much as men do. If you're suspecting your wife of infidelity, you'll have to keep an eye on her of her without her knowledge of her. One of the best ways to know if your spouse cheats on social platforms is by paying close attention to how your spouse behaves while online. The signs are pretty the same. Is your spouse more time on the app without explanation and gets unnecessarily defensive when you ask about it? If your spouse behavior has changed lately, and continues to spend more time on social apps, it's time for you to take action, with the help of a private investigator (suggested; METASPYHUB@GMAIL. COM , you can find out what is taking all their time on social apps, who they are talking to and other things happening,,

Stop making everything in your important relationships about you. It's not all about you. If your significant other is unhappy about the day's outing you've both just been on, find out why and LISTEN. Stop arguing in your head with everything she says. Stop lining up your rebuttals. Just listen. Actually pay attention. Even if she starts off poorly with blaming because "you chose the restaurant/holiday destination/outing venue". Just listen. Instead of making proclamations and pronouncements and passing edicts about future outings, ask her/him what would suit them better? How could things improve? Actually listen. A weird thing might happen. You'll realize you actually won't perish on the spot if you were wrong about something. You won't die if you apologize. You won't cease to exist if you "let them win". Narcissism is ego that is out of control. It's not all about you. You are the centre of your own experience, but so is everyone else the centre of their experience. You won't die if you change, even just a little. Cultivate genuine interest in what's going on for others. So many ways you can let that harmful ego down gently, and expand your inner horizons.

Thank you for making this video! My ex is a covert narcissist. This video helps me so much in understanding why he behaved the way he did and never cared about my feelings. Everything centers about him and all he ever wanted to speak about was him and his life and his struggles in PhD and his this and that and it's always him him him him him. I was caring and kind and did everything I could to be there fo him. He gave me nothing back, literally nothing. Beware of these people cause all they do in a relationship is to take. They take and take and take and take until they drain you and use you up and they discard you and go off to find new supply.

Now that I am in ownership of this information, I am both scared and empowered. I knew I would never change him ("that is just how he is") and I didn't want to. Now it is up to me to change ME before I feel like my personality is GONE, like I won't recognize myself. Oh dear. Feeling desperate and sad. When the Dr said "you feel like you want to record the conversation", in a previous video, I felt gutpunched. And now knowing it is NOT me, but him not wanting to change. Wow. I believe most, if-not-all people have narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies. I think it's only a problem if it's an overly prominent trait. To put it simply, are you capable of understanding why it's not nice to do things to other people that you - yourself find offensive and see why they'd react negatively? If you can do that much, you're probably not THAT bad. Like when you meet that dickhead that only ever brags about themselves and they can't understand why it's obnoxious but then they don't like it when someone else brags constantly... fucking hell it's a walking facepalm personified.

I am currently in a legal battle with my narcissitic ex of 3 years. He's grandiose, malignant, and covert; grandiose because he celebrates the same handful of victories from high school and his one year in college; malignant because he hit me; covert because woe is him and it was always way worse for him than it was for me. He isolated me, never once liked any of my friends, he screamed at me constantly, made me feel like I was crazy, and I cried almost everyday for three years. I thought if I loved him more than his parents ever did or could he would consider my feelings and speak to me with respect. I know he loved me at one point, but I remember the turning point in our relationship and that's when I became increasingly irrelevant to him. I left the night he hit me - walked out of MY house and never went back to him. Now I'm in the process of filing a PFA and he's making it as hard as possible. Over the three years he ghosted me for weeks, even months at a time at one point, but now that I'm leaving him he's not going to make it easy. Thank you for these videos, it brings me a lot of peace to know there's literally nothing I could have done to fix him.

When my 60 year-old mother is 'offended' she becomes extremely vicious and vindictive. this is a dress to HC - c o t t o n I think you're talking about one of your own sisters or brothers not sisters but one of your brothers well I kind of think you and I are in the same boat I love one of my brothers well I have to so you have a lot of them I have too and I'm sorry my baby brother and he know who he is I love him but he's one of those persons you have to just bang upside the head literally with a book or brick that doesn't make sense what you are saying shut that noise down because he wants to stand up on top of the Empire State Building and make his point make it makes sense and then I'll listen if it ain't making sense don't talk to me and we even get your head together and get out of your own head and out of your own way then I'll talk to you and he know exactly what I'm talking about as much as we love one another when I call his phone you don't have the phone go I have a voicemail that's not set up yet cuz he know that his sister is going to chew him out and I'm older than he is and I always remind him little boy be quiet you might be a grown man but you still a little boy under me cuz I'm older than you and so you have to just give him some time to cool off and mellow out and then I hear from him one day or he'll either have one of my twin nieces that are so beautiful and so smart and I'm so proud of them these two of his daughters he'll have one of them to call me so then I know at that point he's getting out of his head and out of his own way and doing something constructive you agree I do too I think you were talking about your brother Henry Henry well him and my friend Margaret they certainly have some of the same characteristics mentally

In my experience they DONT have friends or real friends just acquaintances and whoevever is able to stick around for long is probably because they are getting some sort of reward back. Say night outs in the best clubs with payed table services, maybe even drugs, connections to meet other people etc. Its impossible to be around these people for long if you dont have to.

My ex just wanted to adventure across the world and in doing so had no strong relationships. We were overseas and i said "if you died I'd go home to Australia to be with my friends and family but i cant think of where you would go if something happened to me" he said "i don't need anybody so I'd just keep travelling". After he discarded me i was talking to a mutual friend and said it so hard as everyone sees him as this funny great guy but what he did was so cruel and our mutual friend said. "He is one of those pied piper types, he attracts people because of xyz but fails to actually form real human connections" He was a narcissist and it still hurts to know that he suffered none of the pain i did after the relationship ended. I'm glad i blocked him but it still hurts.

Her story about her first job in the financial world really stood out to me. My husband is in financial planning. He loves meeting with people, helping them plan their retirement, learning their tolerance for risk, and just getting to know them as people. Interestingly, he’s not doing as well in his numbers as others in the company, because he keeps making the “mistake” of selling his clients the products that are best for them, rather than the ones that make the most commissions. And he keeps taking on clients with very small amounts of wealth, which also doesn’t get him very much commission (or respect), but he really wants to help these people who don’t have much, because he knows that social security isn’t going to help them, and they need to plan so that they are able to live comfortably when they retire.

come back on the line with me lieutenant extra cotton I actually have a lot of respect for that person because basically what that person is doing they're not selfish they're just not looking after their own pocketbook they are basically letting his he's letting his clients pick what products they like best not just selling them a product that's going to make him the most money that's a person I would think that's looking after the welfare of the people and he wants them to be happy with the product that they use not the one that he wants to choose for them that's a person that really it's not selfish and that's the person that God wants us to be there again he doesn't care about your money he allowed you to have it for some reason but if you're not good stewardships over your money then he very well may take it from you and he can do that because he's Alpha Omega the beginning and the ending he wrote the beginning and he's going to write the ending so don't be in denial about your soul it's going to spend eternity in heaven or hell even a young child can comprehend that

Dr. Ramani I was to express my deepest appreciation for your work on this topic. I’m 45 years old and until a year ago I certainly have heard of the word narcissist but didn’t really have a working understanding about it. I may have known people with narcissistic personalities but was never in an intimate relationship with one. Unfortunately I now can say I’ve been in a relationship with one for about 18 months and it was simply awful. Your videos are eerily accurate. It’s almost like you were on my shoulder throughout this relationship. Maybe someday I will share more but for now I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the work you do and I hope your work grows and grows to reach as many people in the world as possible. Nobody deserves this sort of abuse but at least if everyone is equipped with a better understanding of narcissism they can at least protect themselves if they decide to stay or until they are able to leave. Keep up the great work! -Tres

Yes! I got out of a relationship like that 2 or 3 months ago. He never wanted to admit that he was wrong, he used abusive language towards me, he always wanted the attention, he didn't want to grow up (he was 20 acting like a 12 year old) and the list goes on and on. I tried to stay friends with him up until 3 weeks ago. He always told me that he wanted to get back together with me and that he NEVER wanted to be with someone else and that he'd rather live alone. Guess what? He got someone else right after I completely cut ties with him and his mother posted a photo online (with the intention for me to see) of them kissing. I'm very glad that I got out of it and I really dodged a bullet there, even his family seems to be very off (they agreed with their son and acted as if I did all the stuff he did). I should've cut ties with him much earlier. (edit: I think he might've manipulated his family to think that way since he always told them the mistakes I made (like everyone makes mistakes in relationships) and he always made them bigger than they actually were. He never told them all the good things I did.)

My personality attracts narcissists all too well... I think they assume I am stupid and I won't see what they are? I don't know how it works but somehow I feel like these people such the life out of me. Convert are the hardest type to get rid off. Because you don't see that at the first glance. And everybody want to help them. I'm also kind of a person that prefers to remove myself quietly from a situation than make a bid fuss. So we get into this weird dynamic when everybody start to ask me to help X because X is "in a bad place". Now I can say that I just don't vibe with them but back in a day it was very weird for me and I had no idea what to do...

Step one is don't blame yourself. You sound like a very sweet person. If you just slow down and think of yourself too, maybe you can say, I might have a minute or so next Tuesday. Seriously, hon, maybe you should gather a list from the local library and then just say, wait! I happen to have a list of food banks, crisis shelters, community dinners, missions, etc. Honestly, people are creatures of habit and falling back into open, helping arms, to take care of them soon becomes a habit too. Those people really need professionals who are trained to teach them to help their selves. It sounds like you really have a big heart. Why don't you try to work for the literacy program with kids or adults. You meet at like a school or a church, and when an hour is over, it's over! No one has any need to know your phone number or where you live. But it sure is rewarding to see a big bright smile from an adult who has never before been able to read!!! And that makes me tear up every time. What a gift to the students, we have helped them to enter a whole new world!!! There are so many things we can do as volunteers through soup kitchens, food banks, after school programs, etc. Good luck sweet lady! You can still help others, without babysitting them and buying all of their needs! "I'm sorry, I just can't help. Or No"! Works too. Peace and Love

@@PianoDentist Thing is... all of these disorders, are on sliding scales. There is no "One size fits all", to define every one of their malfunctional range of states. Ive met people with NPD, that also had some ADHD, and OCD. Basically speaking... its like a circuit board, that has short circuits / bad components... and is malfunctioning in very odd and different ways. There is a general overall problem... but there is different ranges of effect, depending on the degree of the damages / incorrect or bad parts. From what I theorize... their brains and emotions, are Over-Amplified, and thus, extremely Distorted. This caused a little child, for example.. to be hyper fearful.. just by hearing a "spooky" sounding movie backing-track. Their fear levels are so extreme, that their brains and emotions are too much for them to handle. With constant exposure, this causes their brains to Fracture into different personas, to be able to deal with and compartmentalize these things. Their Alter-Ego persona, is that "Protector".. that represents their external heroic image. Meanwhile, their inner child state... stays eternally stuck, and stunted. As such, they are like immature 4yr olds, inside of an Adult body. But like I said.. due to their brains all being damaged differently... the kind of ways they react, can vary quite a bit. In the end, the best solution, is No-Contact. Once I wised up.. and did just that... the quality of my life was so much better.

@@johndough8115 I'm not sure that NPD is too bound to anxiety or a dissociated personality, isnt it more like an analogy that thier self image is fragile and they react by become "overprotective" of themselves. I would often ask myself if i was a narc myself, mostly becaus im really senitive to critisicm but i quickly realised that i don't look down on others or value myself above them. I met somone at my school we had a severe case of NPD he acted like a cartoon villain it was so strange. But it hink my mother might eb a covert narc. It woudl explain so much stuff she did.

He of course never believed me. 45 years old, not working, chronically late but always so so busy....or sleeping bc the busyness was a lie and the exhaustion was a cover. The world is out to get me. This has left me a bit spaced out, until I was talking to someone she worked with, that person informed me that my wife was a narcissist. That came as a bit of a shock, and a lot of the stuff I read didn’t really describe my wife. But the communal narcissist mentioned here, was like listening to my wife’s life story. This has helped me understand some of the not so good times in my marriage. Amazing.
