Hello Olha this kit has had some issue's did you let Pavel know about the oar ports, I believe you also had to replace some wood in an earlier video. Well done, fortunately you have the skills to correct the small problems.

On Pavel's prototype, the oar ports are oriented in different directions)))) I think he is aware...

I’m always in awe of your skills, but your machining of the new oar ports was over the top! And it never occurred to me that a part could be clamped in a 3 jaw chuck in that manner! Was the end mill you cut with a Proxxon item, or was it from another source? While most of my milling machine work is on various metals, I’ve milled slots in wood from time to time and gotten mediocre results. Yours look exceptionally clean!
@OlhaBatchvarov23 күн бұрын
It was Proxxon! Thank you very much!

@olhabatchvarov, @21:45, how do you handle the splinters when sanding down the edges? Do you radius them and work down the high spots? Or does it just eventually smooth itself out?
@OlhaBatchvarov2 ай бұрын
This is beech, it is difficult to make sharp edges from this wood. Because wood is very picky and chips easily. But it is not important here, because I did the final sanding on the model when the part was glued and the wood could not chip...
@normaasennord45134 ай бұрын
You should aim the under side of the strakes to get smooth curved lines on every strake and round the edges a tiny bit to get a better look thats what they do on klinker buildt boats aim from bow to Stern and the other way around cheers❤
@OlhaBatchvarov3 ай бұрын
This kit has a problem with the width of the planks - they are different and in some places there is almost no overlap... So, we have what we have! Check out my French cutter Le CERF that I'm building from scratch and she also has a clinker planking!
@jameskrauzlis26344 ай бұрын
Excellent approach in correcting the problems you uncovered in this kit. Just curious why you used the hand sander rather than the powered one...more precise control? Also, do you know whether those mistakes in the oar port configuration and improper widths have been corrected in the current kit production? As always, a very beautiful and informative video, Olha...very well done!❤
@OlhaBatchvarov4 ай бұрын
Thank you! On the prototype of this model, the holes for the oars remained in different directions, so I think it is unlikely that the manufacturer bothered to fix it! A manual disc sander gives more precision, especially with a wood like beech - its edges peel easily...

Took a pig's ear and made silk purse of it. And also demonstarted, once again, that a ship modeler _never_ has too many clamps

They look nothing like the real oar ports and would be very difficult to row from.
@thomasnuyts97254 ай бұрын
The engraved numbers on those parts are too big and sometimes even burn through the parts, so that is another issue that could be addressed by PN
@OlhaBatchvarov3 ай бұрын
There are no problems with the numbers - they are nowhere to be seen on the finished model, besides, they are simply engravings, not laser cut...

I was about to buy this kit to follow your build but am put off by the missing part and adjustments you have to make. I would certainly like to support a Ukrainian business.
@OlhaBatchvarov4 ай бұрын
This kit is probably impossible to fix! The manufacturer is working on another version, which will be on the frames like a real OSEBERG, but when it will happen is not known...
