I fear the same also. Every time I see a review call out the Pixel phones for being "wrong" I think "iPhone user", or "Samsung user". The thing with KZbin tech reviewers (Shane stands out as an exception) is they tend to gang up on anything different, then when said thing changes to be like the rest, then they say innovation is gone, we're at peak "whatever", the things are all the same. You don't say... 😬 One year in, still loving my original Pixel Fold. So glad I came across Shane's channel and bought this thing before version 2 which has made it pretty much the same as the others. 🥱

Personally I think the reason they changed the folds form factor to a more traditional one is because the software headaches and compatibility issues especially with the 3rd party apps. Just wasn't worth it to them i suppose

Shane, you are absolutely right about needless tinkering, but it isn't just Google, I blame it on tech teams that have no one to represent the end user, known also as, the public. My online bank did exactly the same thing recently which meant that features went missing for a while. EVERY company should have someone who represents the end user, and who needs to sign off on software changes before they go live.

I have a fold as well and while closed, I couldn't even find updates on Photos. It wasn't until I opened the phone that it showed up 🤣

The most annoying thing for me is that Google has locked the split-view layout down to only display in landscape orientation for foldables for Gmail..... whhhyyyyy?! They didn't have to. If they adhere to their own adaptive layout parameters, there's just no need to only display Gmail with a split layout in landscape. Microsoft got it right with Outlook, Samsung also got it right with their native Email app, but the Gmail team..... They purposely do things to get under people's skin. It's so disrespectful.

I totally agree with the Google Photos change. The memories feed is kinda cool, but pointless. Now I have to take a second before finding the album rather than it just being second nature.

Well, count me as one who is happy they tinkered with where shared albums are now located (collections/albums). This works perfectly with how my brain works. I just read the comments here, and someone else described this location as "crap." Undoubtedly I'd probably be unhappy with wherever that person's perfect location is. I had no idea they'd moved things around until I went looking for a different album and came across our shared albums. I remember thinking to myself, "Why do I always have such a hard time finding those? They're right there!" Thanks to your video here, now I know! I'll just enjoy it as it is now, 'cuz if your video is any indication, it'll be on the move once more, and I'll be lost once again. 😕 I completely agree with you regarding KZbin Music though. I've given up and just use two different apps for music (Musicolet - because I own my music collection) and Pocket Casts for podcasts (because it finds and plays some video "podcasts" that Google Music "apparently" doesn't even know exists).

It's definitely a subjective thing. For me, all the shared stuff being in sharing was what I was used to and it made sense. Now, it's split into two different places and both are buried a couple layers deep.

That website is like 90% stuff that no one was using. They tinker too much sometimes, but this idea that you can't rely on Google products at all is belied by the facts. Gmail, KZbin, Pixel Phones, Maps, Android, Drive, Chrome, Nest, Android TV, Chromebooks all off the top of my head and there are plenty more. Yes, the cancelled Jamboard and Hangouts and yes they move UI elements entirely too much for no reason, but their core products have been around for ages.

The KZbin mini player is beyond annoying. Pip is already a feature. This new window creates an extra step for no reason. If i wanted that, I'd use an iPhone.

Google should see this video although I'm extremely doubtful they'll change attitude. Change for the sake of change is simply a bad idea. The have been doing the same thing in Android moving things around changing the fonts to be bold or bigger or vice versa... Enough already!

I would have to say removing the fingerprint sensor from the back of Pixel phones was a big annoyance for me and I didn't get it. I'm very thankful for the ultrasonic sensor in my Pixel 9 Pro XL but I miss the back sensor.

I'm still mad at Google for taking away my touch and hold to notify from the Google pixel buds pro 2. That was a deal-breaker for me because I returned them. They still kept the feature on the Jabra 10 and the Sony wf1000xm5 buds and wh1000xm5 headphones. For the love of God, why????

Surprised, no one's bringing up Google Play Music. As much as I Iove YTM, it's not a pleasant substitute. The interface in YTM for Uploads is absolute garbage. BTW, many of the songs in the Uploads were songs I really purchased straight from Google back when they sold songs.

OK, so I just picked up a Google Pixel Pro 9 Fold a few days ago. Loving the phone so far. BUT - tonight, I opened the phone, and everything is in black and white. Monochrome. I'm thinking "shit - have I got a serious glitch here ?". I do the advisable, I shut it down and restart. Whaddya know, its still in 'Its A Wonderful Life' mode. So I succumb, and Google it. Turns out, its got a monochrome "Bedtime" mode. Did I activate it ? No. Did I WANT it ? No. So WHY FRICKING ACTIVATE IT ON MY DEVICE ?? Anyhoo, after Googling the issue I found out how to disable that shit, and I'm back to glorious technicolour. But I am disturbed at how my phone decides what I "might" like, and just cracks on with it. I mean...WTF ?

Both google microsoft move stuff around and change things just for the sake of change when there was nothing wrong with how things worked and navigated. For example windows 11 hides things behind extra menus and it takes multiple steps to do basic tasks and the option to drag and drop between windows explorer was removed in windows 11 even dragging and dropping between the folders on windows have been around since the older versions of windows. It seems like google has been trying implent something similar to windows 11 when moving stuff around and change things to have a modern look instead of focusing on the practicality like the older versions of there operating systems and it's even applying to the apps as well. It's like they are changing things with form over function when it should be function over form. I use windows 11 because of the support for pc gaming and there are features that I still use that are available for windows 11 but both android and chrome os are getting closer to windows 11 in terms of overall features and functionality depending on the features and functionality. I mainly use android and chrome os and sometimes windows 11 because I don't like windows 11 compared to the older versions of windows like windows 7 and older versions of windows. I was already confused on how to use windows 8.1 with the tiles since the start menu was removed from task bar and changed and windows 11 made things even more confusing. I don't like windows 8. 1 and windows 11. I'm glad that windows 8.1 was discontinued but windows 11 is an abysmal operating system with ai, recall, bloatware and the telemetry built into the operating system. I rather use windows 95, 98, ME and even windows vista over windows 11.

Not a google apologist either but Google Photos changed really isn’t that big of a deal my man especially after watching your example. Imo this video was waste of time. And can we stop crying over the OG pixel. A lot was wrong with that phone, size included. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t google have a hard time convincing developers to build apps due to the aspect ratio of the screen. Why not make it easier for them and make outer screen taller. Keep making videos man.
