I am currently studying arts and focusing on visual illustration. I've always wanted to create a video game to bring my character designs to life. I've tried using the old method of the top view of RPG Maker MV's pixel art style, but I never felt comfortable with the visuals. Recently, I stumbled upon your videos on KZbin and I couldn't be happier. Your presentation, step-by-step guidance, and everything in between have made me determined to try again, this time with a 2D platform game. I just wanted to express my gratitude for your tutorials. At first I considered making a regular top-down RPG-like game with visual novel storytelling aspects, but after this series I've started to reconsider my options. I still want to implement visual novel moments - with full sprites and scene changes - while still offering the player the room to move around in an environment. Giving that sense of being in the world, ya know? Instead of strictly locked in dialogue sequences with simple click-based mechanics that so many visual novels do. Now I'm considering doing it in a side scroller fashion. Especially since I had no plans to do any fighting system, to begin with, but rather the generic horror "run" and "hide" game mechanics. I still have quite a few challenges ahead of me - RPG Maker is new to me as a whole- and I appreciate you offering these tutorials free to follow on YT. It has helped and inspired me a lot so thank you.

Just found this video. This is pretty cool! Honestly, I wanted to make an RPG with a fixed Side View Sprites for a while now to make it more distinct than the default systems. Use the Side-View Sprites for both Field and Battle. So, the Beat 'Em Up Style Side Scroller is the way to go. These Plugins can work with VisuStella Plugins (the new Yanfly plugins for RPG Maker)? Subbing to your channel. I hope to learn more!

Thanks for this! I was looking for some more info on how the character sheet works (I tried my hand at making my own test character sheet based on the standard sheet in rpg maker mv and it kept going through the animation even when the character is not moving). I suppose this has to do with the idle animation? I'll try to make a character sheet based on the one you have on the website to see how that goes! :)

I'm about a week into production and I just keep waiting for some spark of genius MC design to hit me like the idea for the game and the idea for the design of the final boss hit me but it's just not coming. I also had a hard time designing specifically the main character for my previous project, a novel. I can come up with wicked, crazy awesome gruesome designs for every other character but I always have a hard time with creating the protagonist.

Ciao! Sto provando ad utilizzare il plugin di salto di Galv che consigli nel tuo video tutorial, ma non ho ben chiaro come tu sia riuscito a simulare la gravità al minuto 1:27. Si tratta per caso di un evento di spostamento dello sprite del character verso il basso al contatto? Prevedi di pubblicare un progetto demo in cui questa funzione è esplorata nel dettaglio? Hey! Esatto, si tratta di un evento che si attiva al contatto col giocatore, facendolo saltare sul livello sottostante. Nel prossimo aggiornamento del template, disponibile su Itch, inserirò tale meccanica ;)

Hey Gofchu, for that kind of diagonal movement I simply put in the movement route "move up right/left" :)
