Basically I got shown three ways and not four. Two of them were shims and I count the shim idea as one idea or one way to open the lock and even then the first lock that he did the shim idea on didn't even look like it would even fit into the housing along with not even looking like it went into the housing to do what it was supposed to do; and that lock combined with the lock at the end both had places on both sides of the shackle that had some type of catch on them which would mean he would need to have two shims not just the one, so I'm kind of wondering how he was able to get either of them open with one shim. On top of that, the thumbnail I clicked on showed a battery and the video itself didn't even show him using a battery to open a lock. My guess is that the implication being that he could have unwrapped the battery from the casing and possibly used it to make another shim thus going back to my original idea that the shim idea is just one way to open the lock

The jar lid shim is the closest thing to anything that might work, but jar lids are too thick for most locks. A soda can works great, though.

Das ist ja alles gut und schön... aber was mache ich mit einem geschlossenen Vorhängeschloss, dass an der Tür hängt und welches ich nicht in einen Schraubstock klemmen kann???? Auch das Brennmaterial der Zündhölzer kann ich da z.B. nicht reinfüllen. Das fällt ja gleich raus!!!

I have bolt-cutters which fit in a pocket, as it's only 8 inches long. I bought it primarily to cut padlocks. It cost me $90 but it's already paid for itself.

None of these actually work. The closest thing to actually workable is the jar lid shim. The problem with it is that jar lids are made of metal that is too thick to fit between the shackle and the hole it slides into. The metal that makes up the side of an aluminum soda can, however, is perfect. Any padlock that you don't have to have the key turned to lock is vulnerable. Some locks have latches that are squared off, not tapered, to prevent this vulnerability. Some locks also have a latch on both sides, requiring you to shim both sides. Funny thing is, if you look at the shackle on the lock used to demonstrate this technique, it was one of these locks with two latches requiring two shims and he's only using one.
